Everton have made their move in the summer transfer window, tabling a £37 million bid for AS Roma striker Artem Dovbyk as they look to fend off competition from Leeds United and West Ham United.
According to Football Insider, the 28-year-old Ukrainian international has attracted serious interest from multiple Premier League clubs, but it’s Everton who have struck first with a concrete offer.
From Girona Glory to Roma Frustration
Just a year ago, Dovbyk was one of Europe’s most underrated forwards, spearheading Girona’s shock qualification for the UEFA Champions League. But instead of playing in Europe’s elite competition, he made the switch to AS Roma last summer—a move that hasn’t fully gone to plan.
While the striker has still posted respectable numbers—17 goals and four assists in 45 appearances—his debut campaign in Serie A was marred by inconsistency. Now, with Roma eyeing Nikola Krstovic as a replacement and Everton offering the exact £37m asking price, Dovbyk’s time in Italy could be coming to an end.
Why Everton Want Him So Badly
The Toffees’ need for a new No. 9 is urgent. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving on a free transfer and only Beto remaining as a recognised striker, manager David Moyes is desperate for firepower. Dovbyk, with his proven scoring record and physical presence, fits the bill perfectly.
Leeds & West Ham in the Mix
Leeds United have also been linked with the Roma man, though their recent capture of Calvert-Lewin on a free, along with Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe already on the books, makes another striker signing less likely.
West Ham, on the other hand, are crying out for a reliable goal scorer after a disastrous 2024/25 campaign for Niclas Füllkrug and loanee Evan Ferguson—who has ironically just joined Roma, further complicating Dovbyk’s future.
