My respects to everyone who visited this post. Regardless of whether it’s day outside or evening, good luck to you. Today we will talk about the Devil May Cry series of games. This is not a review or history of the series, but rather a detailed personal opinion. Regarding the issue of objectivity, before sitting down to write this post, I deliberately replayed all the games that will be discussed. I’ll warn you right away that there will be censored swearing in the text because in some places there is butthurt. Happy reading.

I still remember how I played DMC for the first time in 2006. This was the third part and oh gods how good it was. I played it for hours on end, passed it and started playing again on a new difficulty, and so on until I beat everyone, including the company with Virgil, and I know I was still a die-hard fan, even at that time I bleached my hair to look like Dante..
Well, what can I say, I was very fascinated by this game: colorful characters, excellent combat and awesome cutscenes filled with pathos and good jokes (yes, in those days Dante was a very charismatic character, not like this bully from the “reboot”, the height of his wit was “fuck-fuck” through a word and discussing the length of his penis with his brother, but we’ll talk about that later)
The plot of the game is that in the middle of the city, having broken through the asphalt, the Temen-ni-gru tower rises from under the ground. Being nothing more than a gate between the worlds of people and demons. A long time ago, these gates were sealed by a demon who decided to go against the will of his emperor. Determined to save humanity from extermination. To save a world that was so different from the hell in which he lived. The name of this demon is Sparda. After the gates were closed, he became a living legend. Universal savior. And now, hundreds of years later, Dante, the son of the Legendary Demon Sparda, stands at the steps of Temen-ni-gru, perhaps to save the world again.
A tower filled to the top with demons sounds tempting
It’s worth mentioning the DMC3 antagonist. Arkham – a man who made a contract with a demon. Cunning, insidious, calculating, eager to throw away everything human and become a real demon. Arkham began his path into darkness with the murder of his wife and from that moment on, he increasingly resembles an insensitive demon rather than a person. Since Arkham is an excellent manipulator, it is he who directs and forces all events, arranging everything so as to ultimately get what he wants.
But he is also Lady’s own father
In the third part, the characters are well written and, most importantly, very memorable. And now I’m really talking about all the characters: Dante, Virgil, Arkham/Juster, Lady, Nevan, Cerberus, Biowulf, Agni and Rudra… Absolutely all are good and have their own individuality, and what if not this indicates that the soul was invested in the creation of the game? You can really see the painstaking work of the authors and the attention to detail inherent in the Japanese.

In all this time I have replayed Devil May Cry 3 times 20-25 (even now, when I sit down to play, I complete it at least twice) A year ago I bought it on Steam and finished it again, what a great game it is. Seriously. I can talk about Devil May Cry 3 forever, but if the post turns out to be too long, no one will bother to read it, posting a comment in the style of “too many letters, too hard to read,” so let’s not go deeper, we still have a lot of things ahead.
Fun fact: For many players the game ended at this boss
In this section we will look at the demonic appearance of Dante. It is different in each part of the series, so there will be something to see. In Devil May Cry 3 we have a very interesting trigger. Dante’s appearance changes depending on the weapon in his hands. Having also equipped Nevan, in devil form it becomes possible to fly.

But my acquaintance with the series did not stop at DMC3, I played all the parts released at that time. I started, of course, with the first one, and it turned out to be just great. The game was released back in 2001. You may not believe it, but at the development stage, Devil May Cry was seriously planned as a game in the Resident Evil universe. Such a resident with demons, can you imagine?? Fortunately, this idea was abandoned and Hideki Kamiya began making his masterpiece from scratch.
Let’s talk a little about the plot. Chronologically, the story of the first part of DMC takes place after the events of the third part. Dante has matured, matured, but still as cheerful and charismatic. Finally opens his own business. An agency that anyone whose problem involves demons in one way or another can turn to for help.
And then one fine evening the doors of the agency shatter into pieces, and a mysterious blonde appears in front of Dante riding a motorcycle. After a rather “intense conversation”, during which Dante gets a sword in the stomach, it turns out that the beautiful stranger’s name is Trish and she is not going to harm us at all, and in general came to ask for help.
She knows how to ask, since a sword in her belly is not a problem for Dante at all
On one distant island, according to Trish’s stories, evil is rampant. His name is Mundas. And this is not just any ordinary demon, Mundas is the emperor of the demon world. The one who was once opposed by Dante’s father – the Legendary Sparda. Even after centuries, he still wants to destroy the human world. The time has come for Dante to come face to face with his father’s old enemy.
Mundas in canon DMC is presented as a powerful demon lord. And it’s written so you really believe it. His power and strength are reflected even in his voice. This is the type of villain that inspires respect. The real evil Emperor, who with his gaze incinerates the subordinates who disappointed him. What can we say? In fact, we don’t even know what he really looks like. And this works for the image, because no one can better present you with an image of evil than your own imagination (this is not the overweight Lex Luther from the “relaunch” of the series, who, apart from disappointment and laughter, causes nothing but disappointment and laughter, so that you ninja theory, such a character was leaked..)
Mundas looks through the skies, no one can hide from his gaze
Also during the game we meet Nelo Angelo. A demon fighting on the side of the emperor. A knight full of valor and honor, who for some reason took the side of Mundas. Doesn’t remind me of anyone? Yes it’s Virgil. And in the service of the evil emperor, he does not of his own free will. After the events of the third part, Virgil decides to live in his father’s home world. Once in the world of demons, he immediately meets Mundas. Since Virgil was exhausted after the fight with Dante, Mundas was able to defeat him and subjugate him.
His soul is crying out for release..
Devil May Cry is just a great game. What You Don’t Touch: Story, characters, gameplay, everything is great. Yes, I understand, most likely the new generation will not like comments in the style of “the graphic design is gamno and the textures are like in the first Diablo… hahaha… mother fucked..»
But I truly love this game. And I hope that at least someone who has finished reading this post will at least run this wonderful game on an emulator.
I even once dreamed about this plane flying in the sky 😀
In the first part of the series, the trigger, just like in the third part, depends on the weapon in your hands. Ifrit gives our form the power of flame, Aleister of lightning. You can fly in devil form only with Alistair.
(There was a Flash player, but since 2020 Flash is not supported by browsers)
The second… well, let’s just say it’s not the best game in the series, it happens to everyone. Objectively the game turned out well weak. Innovation of DMC2 – the ability to play not only for Dante, but also for Lucia, who appeared in the second part (there is also a hidden character Trish). As for the graphics, there haven’t been any noticeable changes, but the plot…
In short: There is a powerful demon Argosax – whom an evil uncle named Arius wants to summon to our world. In order to carry out the summoning ritual, we need three receiving artifacts, which we must place. For if Arius succeeds in his plan, then the whole world will end and blah blah blah..
Well, Dante in DMC2 has become more serious and pathetic, less talk – more action (this can be understood, because, chronologically, this is the last part of the series and Dante is quite an adult here and has no time for childishness). Also, most likely, Dante, in the intervals between episodes, read Batman comics and apparently the character of Two-Face really sunk into his soul, because by DMC2 Dante acquired a coin toss, which he uses to resolve controversial issues. And yes, both sides of the coin are identical, doesn’t it remind you of old Harvey Dent??
Well, let’s flip a coin?
A few words about the new playable character Lucia. She, like Trish, is artificially created. But this time not Mundas, but the same Arius. She has a good figure, red hair and twin blades as her main weapons. Well, everything would be fine, but this drama of hers is based on “I am a monster… I was created only to kill… I should not exist.."etc.d., will be heard from Lucia’s lips, the vast majority of her screen time. Perhaps the most poorly written girl in the Devil May Cry series, except perhaps that big-lipped graffiti girl from the “relaunch”, who is rightfully a waste of polygons… (all she can do is spray squirrel droppings from a can onto a stencil).
Well, who really let us down in DMC2 is the antagonist. Arius is the owner of a large company on short terms with demons, who turned the city into a breeding ground for evil. Wanting to take over the world. I think even the creators of the game didn’t take him seriously, because the fights with him are very simple. The most incomprehensible villain in the series. Thank you, at least they didn’t make him the last boss and thank you.
Arius – Doctor Evil according to DMC2
With all that said, the game is still not that bad. The spirit of the series is felt in it. Not without pleasure, I replayed it once again before sitting down to this blog. Far from the best game in the series, but rightfully worthy of attention.
This part has a pretty https://thescorebetcasino.co.uk/mobile-app/ cool trigger. In addition to bad ess appearance, we now have three elements at our disposal. Ice attacks have also been added to the choice between fire and electric attacks. Unfortunately, Devil Treeger’s appearance does not change with the change in element. But when Dante receives a large amount of damage in human form, turning on the trigger, another strengthened version of the devil form will appear in front of us, the so-called Meijin. Both forms can fly.
(There was a Flash player, but since 2020 Flash is not supported by browsers)
Well then 2008 came and the fourth part was released quadrology Devil May Cry. Although, of course, I got ahead of myself. I first heard about Devil May Cry 4 back at the end of 2006. Accidentally stumbled upon a teaser from TGS 2005. The image of Dante in it is younger than it turned out for the release, but if you look closely, the location in which the action takes place was used in the release intro.
It also makes sense to mention the torment of 2007, in which new rumors about the release of DMC4 appeared. Yes… In those days, the Capcom promotional site that appeared in the middle of the year, enlightened Devil May Cry 4, was my home page in the browser. Okay, let’s go back to 2008, actually to the release finally. What can I say, the game was good, everything was on the level, at first, of course, it was annoying for the little guy to play as a new character, but as we progressed, this disadvantage disappeared as if by hand. When they gave Dante control in the middle of the game, everything went great.
As for the plot, everything here is tied to an order of people who worship the Legendary Black Knight Sparda as a god. Yes, of course, I understand that he saved people from extermination, but turning his feat into a religion… It would be fine, but then at one of the regular addresses to parishioners, a local preacher receives a bullet in the forehead from the spectacular appearance of Dante – a demon hunter and part-time son of their deity. Not an expected turn of events, isn’t it??
Dante seems to be saying, “Well, I’m sorry, of course, but I’m an atheist.”
Yes, yes, not everything is as clean as it seems. This order really turns out to be a cover. And everyone who is in power in it are demons. But not everything is so bad, there are also good guys among the order’s novices. One of them is our new playable character Niro.
I’ll say right away that he’s not just a person, Nero is Virgil’s son. His mother was an ordinary girl. It turns out that since his father was half a demon, Niro, in turn, is a quarter demon. This is why he cannot take the form of a demon, since there is not enough demonic blood in his veins. But at the same time, his demonic origin left a reminder of itself by giving Niro a demonic hand. At the time of the plot, his character is cocky and even daring, which is dictated by youthful maximalism; he is, after all, very young. This makes him somewhat reminiscent of young Dante. Overall a good character.
Since all the demonic power is collected in his hand, he distributes it to the maximum
In general, I can say about the fourth part that it is in my personal top list within the series, it occupies a position immediately after the first, which in turn comes second after the obvious leader – the third part, here.
I’ll say more about the bosses in DMC4. In my opinion their design is the best in the series. The development of gaming technology most likely played a role here. Because the way the bosses look in the fourth part is simply jaw-dropping.
Poisan Ivy plus Anaconda
It is also worth mentioning that the graphics of DMC4 still look at a high level, and the staging of cut scenes is at such a level that I have not even seen anything like this even now in 2014, I think that it is best for the new generation to start getting acquainted with quadrology exactly from this part.
Since only half of the game is dedicated to Dante in DMC4, his trigger in this part, in my opinion, is not so impressive. There is a second form activated in the Royal Guard style after receiving enough damage to the block
DMC Devil May Cry – … no, you know, let’s talk about the DMC anime first, and “that” will wait.
(There was a Flash player, but since 2020 Flash is not supported by browsers)
Anime adaptation of Devil May Cry turned out to be controversial. Many people don’t like this anime and I can understand them, a kind of panache, a drawn-out plot, which is essentially pure filler, but you know, something hooked me. Yes, I understand, as a fan of the series, I had to spit drool in this fragment shouting “Non-canon!", but I don’t want to, not in this case. Unlike the “reboot” of the anime adaptation, I forgive deviations from the canon, why? Well, at least because the anime adaptation retained the original characters and humor series. And I think Trish and Lady were quite successful (see. fourth and last two episodes)
(There was a Flash player, but since 2020 Flash is not supported by browsers)
Well, no matter how I delayed this moment, we got to the “reboot” of the series – DMC Devil May Cry, so beloved by the new generation. Let me tell you right now, this game is giving me symptoms of Tourette’s Syndrome.
Yes, yes, I understand that a picture is not enough… Well, it all started in 2010, the day after my birthday on September 15… My friend sent me a link to what he then said was “DMC5 Teaser.” It was a happy two minutes while I copied the link from Skype to the browser, and then… “To you all! Fuck! Holy shit! What the fuck did I just watch?? How can it be called DMC? What kind of smoking emar, says he is Dante? This is a fucking joke?!“— These are some of the thoughts that popped into my head after seeing the teaser.
As you understand, after what I saw, to put it mildly, I was dissatisfied. I don’t even know what disappointed me more: the changed visual style or the replacement of the protagonist… The whole teaser was like with a “dirty” filter thrown on top, I don’t know how to explain it better, everything looks dirty and clumsy, and also this moment with the suspended under-Dante, whom everyone asks what his name is, fuck, I remember..
And what was this scene all about??
Well, this is about the style, but about replacing the main character of the series, yes, they kept the name (in the teaser, at the end, this freak says that his name is Dante), but they completely changed both the appearance and the character, and this damn thing for me personally was such a serious blow to the balls that it still hurts, you know, no, seriously, what the fuck? Yes, I know that a supposedly smoking emar is stylish, fashionable, youthful, and the “chicks squeak” type and blah blah, but damn it’s Devil May Cry, why fix something that wasn’t broken?? After all, canonical Dante was already quite cool, stylish, youthful, even by the standards of 2014 (well, if you ask me personally, canonical Dante is incomparably cooler than the bad boy from the “reboot”) In general, I didn’t understand this then, and I still don’t really understand it now.
Yes, I know they added some color to the visual style of the release, and they corrected Dante’s model, cut his bangs, stopped him from smoking. What can I say, they even offered to buy the dlc with a red cape and wig, for oldfags like me. But this still didn’t save the situation… On the contrary, knowing how they distorted the plot, this DLC cosplay with the costume of the canon Dante just looks like a slap in the face. For example, let’s take the fact that Dante and Virgil (by the way about him: I hate this fagot from the “reboot” there are not enough fucking swear words for them, how could you fucking fuck him too) and now they have suddenly become Nephilim… Seriously?! Nephilim? That is, being half demon and half human is not cool by the standards of 2013? After all, this damn thing breaks the whole base, even partly the very name “Devil May Cry”, in the canon carried the message:
"They say Demons don’t cry, emotions have always been considered a weakness… But as it turned out, the strongest of the demons is half human. Yes, he is a Demon, but there is also a human part in him, so human feelings are not alien to him. They feed him and give him motivation. Emotions are a very underrated power.", and in the restart they just put a bolt on it.
A few words about under-Dante, the character of the original was completely lost in the “restart”. The character became empty. Even the canon’s ability to “introduce oneself” did not translate into “reboot”. How can I put this more correctly… In general, the canonical Dante was a showman, and with a capital “S”. If there was a moment to show off, you were sure he would impress you.
Oh…more on what they did to Virgil? Having inherited the 3D model of his rebooted brother, he looks even more gay, although it would seem much more..
He looks like a cowboy from Brokeback Mountain in that hat
Although the appearance is okay, the main thing is that the character of the canon is simply fucked. Fuck… Instilling awe in enemies, cold-blooded and even arrogant, but at the same time clearly knowing what it is honor. Can you even imagine that the canonical Virgil would ever shoot a pregnant woman in the back??! In the back. Pregnant woman! In the back. SHOT. Aaaaah fuck my ass… Fuck shot? What the f*ck?! Aaaaaaaaa.
*butthurt mod – off* I’ll make a small digression: Canonical Virgil looked like a samurai, not only in that his main weapon was a katana, but also in the fact that he did not use firearms. And in general it is clear that according to the canon he knows the meaning of the word honor.
For me personally, Virgil is perhaps the most “rebooted” character in the “reboot”. He was written too well in the canon.
*butthurt mod – on* Fuck, what can I say, he even drives a Mini Cooper! Fuck are you serious?! Virgil on a Mini Cooper? Mini Cooper! Aaaaaah… Pain-pain-pain..
I feel like if I continue like this, I’ll tear out all the hair on my body in streams of rage.
As for Dante’s arsenal of weapons, I won’t even go into depth, let me just say – he’s bad, and you just won’t ask me about it, okay? Let’s just ignore this… Well, damn it, I’ll only say about Ebony and Ivory.
In the canon, these are very cool pistols, in appearance which, in my opinion, are very
look like Joshua and Jackal Alucard from the anime Hellsing. The sounds of pistols firing sound just perfect, when shooting you really believe that these are large-caliber pistols.
What did we get in the “restart”? Oh… Ebony and Ivory now don’t even look much like real pistols, for some reason they are overgrown with something similar to clay, this is especially noticeable on the handle. Also this strange white glamor pattern. By God, if the canonical Ebony and Ivory evoked associations with Alucard’s pistols, then the “reboot” pistols are more like plastic children’s toys.
Just look at this idiotic face..
What about the sound of pistol shots in the “reboot” – it’s just a failure… Seriously, the first time I sat down to play this “reboot” when, after the cut-scene with the bra and the pedo-smile of the under-Dante, they gave me the opportunity to shoot with the local Ebony and Ivory – it was such a disappointment… Fuck, badger flatulence sounds more like gunshots, by golly.
The combat in DMC Devil May Cry has also been changed, making it as easy as possible. Not what styles and hidden specials you want. combo.
There are now three types of attacks: Normal, Red (Demonic) and Blue (Angelic). I won’t say that this is really very bad, but what was the problem with just switching weapons??
Yes, and this hook of yours with which Dante pulls up objects or pulls himself towards them, it was impossible to do without switching modes? This is probably not stylish, fashionable or youthful enough.
Another big problem is how easy the game is to play. And it’s not just the changed combat, the number of opponents, the speed of their attacks, and even the puzzles were cut out.
That’s what else causes me a butthurt – this is the ending of the "reboot", which tries to completely copy the ending of Devil May Cry 3, but mercilessly lies in this.
It’s OK to be Gay~
(There was a Flash player, but since 2020 Flash is not supported by browsers)
In the third part of 19, the mission was a boss fight in which Dante and Virgil join forces against a common enemy, and in the “restart” the brothers seem to fight together with the boss NedoMundas. After which in DMC3 and the “reboot” in mission 20, due to the current situation, the brothers have to cross blades again. And why is this scene catching in the third part and why in the “reboot” it looks so far-fetched? Yes, because in Devil May Cry 3 the conflict between brothers runs through the entire plot.
I’ll say it for those who for some reason haven’t played the third part. There are two amulets into which at one time the father of Dante and Virgil, the Legendary demon Sparda, invested his power. He gave one amulet to his beloved, and kept the second one for himself. After the birth of twin sons, his father’s amulet went to Virgil, and Dante’s mother gave hers before her death. These amulets are very important, not only because they are filled with the power of a great demon, but also because only with their help can you open the gates to hell that were once closed by Sparda.
Both brothers perceived the death of their parents in their own way. Virgil got angry at the whole world. His father was always an example for him, and since Virgil always considered himself weak, he decided to fill the void in his soul with the desire to become equal to his father, to become the same as his father. The goal of his life was to gain strength. But Dante, in turn, was closer to his mother, and since demons were to blame for her death, he decided to take revenge. As he once said: “Demons are to blame for the death of my mother, so I fight them, because by killing every demon I meet on my way, sooner or later I will kill the one who took her from me.» Therefore, Dante helps people by protecting the world from demons, while waging his own personal revenge. Virgil, not accepting his brother’s views, renounced him. Demons were closer to him than people. Their paths diverged.
So, the same unification of warring brothers against a common enemy in mission 19 in DMC3 gave hope that they would bury the hatchet. But Virgil realized that if he took away his mother’s amulet from Dante and combined it with his amulet, he would receive his father’s much-desired power. And since the goal of his life was to gain strength, he could not do otherwise. Dante couldn’t give away the amulet, because it was his only reminder of his mother..
And this conflict begins the battle of brothers in Devil May Cry 3..
What did Ninja Theory, so beloved by the new generation, do in the “relaunch”? How they wrote the conflict between blood brothers and twins?
– We will rule over stupid people, bro?
— I don’t know, people aren’t like cattle, it seems
– If you don’t want to rule, I’ll be a mess myself
– No, you won’t!
I think you understand how much weaker this is compared to canon.
*facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm*
*exhale* I could have mentioned a lot more in which DMC Devil May Cry sucks in comparison to the canon, but the post was already huge. If desired, we can discuss other details in the comments
I won’t even say anything. I just hate you Ninja Theory..
One of the largest Japanese publishers, Capcom, suffered record losses over the past year – about $73 million. Major releases like Resident Evil 6 and DmC: Devil May Cry did not live up to financial expectations: the last part of the famous horror film sold 4.9 million copies. copies, and the reboot of Dante fell short of about 900 thousand, stopping at 1.1 million. copies instead of the expected 2 million. The Japanese giant also places part of the blame on its foreign studios, which are increasingly providing "low quality product".
To overcome the financial crisis, Capcom management decided to transfer the development of most games to their native Japan, thus “increasing their quality”.
Because of this, some projects created by the efforts of foreign studios were canceled
Bottom line: Devil May Cry quadrology is a wonderful game series. For me personally the best that Japan has offered us in the class of triple hey games, may Kojima and Toyama forgive me. Well, you know the “reboot” – fuck it, honestly.
PS: All materials used with the exception of music and teasers/trailers were made during the replay of the games by the author of the post, that is, by me.

Yes, and this hook of yours with which Dante pulls up objects or pulls himself towards them, it was impossible to do without switching modes?
Well, perhaps mode switching is needed because these are two different actions, no?
In general, yes, it bombs, of course, notably and in some places is not relevant, but never mind. In my humble opinion, you ruined the entire impression of the article with the last part.
Nice article.
Well, since I’m a person who has completed all the parts, I also wouldn’t mind sharing my opinion about each game.
devil may cry – Again reminded me of what a heavy slasher is – even the local “resurrection games” (I can’t remember the name) did not revive on the spot, as was the case in subsequent games in the series, but strictly at certain checkpoints. Overall a fun game 9/10
Devil may cry 2: For me, the easiest part in the series is the bosses – easy, not interesting (the boss is an infected tank – lol). Yes, it wasn’t interesting to play anyway. Well, if you have absolutely nothing to do, you can run 5/10
Devil may cry 3: The coolest part – there are cool locations, characters, original weapons (how do you like the electric guitar? ) and the bosses also let you sweat. In one sentence – Such an excellent toy. 10/10
Devil may cry 4: In principle, the same fun as the other parts (except for the second), normal difficulty of passage (easier than the first or third, but harder than the second). Bosses – pretty well remembered. 9/10
Well, all these parts are united by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Rz2ivHHCug
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx2mgrK1J0c
DMC: Good – varied locations, more or less refreshed combat. They did everything perfectly, but – canon. Dante is no more, it also filled me with sadness from the beginning – but there’s nothing you can do about it.I started the game 4 times – the first three times I just started getting bored and quit the game. But for the fourth time it somehow captured me – and I walked through it, not without pleasure, 2 – 3 times. 9/10
Anime: I watched it a long time ago – I barely remember now – but I remember that I watched it with pleasure.
In a nutshell: I think that Devil May Cry is the best slasher film in my opinion to this day. And not some MGR or bayonetta will give me as much pleasure as the Devil May Cry series did.
Dude, I wanted to unsubscribe more leniently… until I read it.
Let’s omit standard errors and occasional missing commas. In fact: you remind me of Alexgarry75, who also praised the first games about the blue hedgehog and poured shit on the last game (although deservedly so, listing only the disadvantages of one game and only the advantages of another is also wrong). The difference between you is that you write yourself, and you write well. Your structure is fine, but in terms of content..
From your article we can draw the following conclusions:
— That Dante is vanilla, almost like Edward from Twilight.
— That the ability to play as other characters was considered an innovation in 2003.
– What, the old VHI is filled with the deepest meaning.
– What if someone looks like a samurai and carries a katana, then he knows about honor.
— That every particle of the new VHI must be destroyed.
So, go with your “some kind of Darksiders”
The world is well written and the plot is not weak. The only let down was the gameplay.
I wanted to write about this, because I also started with the third part, and I like the restart no less, but somehow the author’s arguments about DmC – especially the search for deep gayness and the typical “earlier is better” and just to crap – look sad.
I think I won’t say anything new, because many wonderful people have long expressed their thoughts so clearly that the truth burns through the fundus of the eye. But let me add a couple of lines. I caught those times when the Devil May Cry series was just in its infancy. I saw its ups and downs, like most fans, as a true fan of quality slashers. With sincere love I cherish those memories when I completed the first part and (attention) cried, in the literal sense of the word, watching the last cut-scenes, starting from the moment when Trish sacrificed herself and ending with the reunion with Dante. Only games in the Final Fantasy series or the legendary ICO aroused such feelings in me back then. Some people may find certain flaws in these games, but they have soul. Proof of this can be the soulful music of Masami Ueda, who wrote the compositions for the first part of Devil May Cry. If you listened to Eva’s theme, Trish’s theme or Seeds of Love, then you understand perfectly well what I’m talking about now. Of course, in subsequent parts the emphasis shifted more towards the coolness of the main character, and the dramatic component was slightly reduced. But one way or another, Dante remained himself, and his heroic adventures could leave only the most boring gamer indifferent. Dante became the prototype of a new hero, a confident and strong man with a bright appearance, a subtle sense of humor and a huge heart. Add to all of the above, a love of heavy rock music, as well as mastery of martial arts, and you get one of the most charismatic personalities in the history of video games. Alas, the fourth part did not give us answers to numerous questions. Who is Nero really and where did he come from?? What happened to Virgil (yes, I remember the first part. But I don’t believe that it all ended there)? I would also like to know more about the past of the brothers and their family. How Sparda fell in love with an earthly woman? Why did you decide to rebel against your family for her sake?? What was the reason for the enmity between Dante and Virgil since childhood?? Yes, we all know perfectly well that they are different, but more can be said. Alas, we will never get answers to these questions. And I will never believe the words of game critics and journalists that after the fourth part the series reached a dead end and had nowhere to move. Bullshit! The same complaints could be made about the Resident Evil series. But everyone’s favorite horror series is still alive today. I heard that Capcom motivated their decision to hand over the series to Ninja Theory for the simple reason that the total sales of all Devil May Cry games worldwide did not reach the level they expected. And I don’t care that the series has a huge army of fans, because money is always more important. We’ll do something else, thought the comrades from Capcom. I’ll say right away that the new DMC did not impress me, but nevertheless, I say with a clear conscience that this is a good game. It’s fun to play and has a really good storyline. The game, as is fashionable nowadays, focuses on realism (where it is permissible) and therefore the characters are more down-to-earth and similar to real people. There is only one problem, this is no longer Devil May Cry! We don’t know him like that! However, not everything is so bad in our kingdom-state. Fortunately, Dante’s father, Hideki Kamiya still continues to make wonderful games that can rightfully be called the standard in the slasher genre. Now his “daughter” – Bayonetta – has entered the picture. Heiress to the noble empire of the Japanese Devil May Cry games. Bayonetta has all the advantages that once made the DMC series a big name. She’s a lot like the Dante we all love so much. Just as cute, fast, hot, incredibly cool and has her own specific sense of humor. The atmosphere here may be a little different, but it is endowed with a unique charm. Which is not surprising, since what we have here now is not a muscular young man, but a graceful, charming witch. I love the Japanese DMC series, I love its successor – Bayonetta. Well, the new Devil May Cry is a new generation and new fans. Play and enjoy!
Overall the post is very good and informative. But I have never seen or read so much rage towards a restart.
And yes, I still don’t know why some fans of DMK 4 disliked it? Okay, DMK 2 is clear with him, he’s not very clear, but with the 4th I still don’t understand. Ehhh if they knew what the reboot of the series would entail, they would immediately go buy the 4th part of which the publishers were unhappy (probably), otherwise why restart the series.
About anime. After the release of one of the first three parts, one Japanese mangaka decided to write his own DMC story, with the same characters, but with his own plot, mundus and strawberry ice cream.. The manga, as expected, became popular and they decided to make an anime based on it.
It is for this reason that there are many things in anime that are not according to the canons and cannot be included in the main plot of the games.
Personal opinion. Anime is good. But it’s far from the coolest plot and the weakest game in the series. Dante there is the absolute opposite of the canon. He’s calm. Lazy. And he behaves more like Dante from DmC from Ninja Theory, although not in appearance. And what a strange love for strawberry ice cream? However, the anime provided an excellent soundtrack to us, fans of this wonderful series. The opening is simply gorgeous

Man, DMC has always been a game for the "chosen few", well…Who was not too lazy to spend hours playing this or that technique, breaking the joy/keyboard/or whatever they were playing?. The audience of the game was comparatively narrow, but here the reboot killed 2 birds with one stone – and expanded the audience and added seriousness to the narrative.
Honestly, I don’t understand why you don’t like the reboot, it’s like comparing Batman of some bearded years with Nicholson and the new Dark Knight. Both are good in principle, but the latter was grabbed by more people and is more serious.
Returning to the reboot – the weapon, well, even if it doesn’t look so awesome (here it should be noted that in this style it could not be different), but it’s interesting to play, you can go into a room, jump and clear everything without falling to the ground. Everything is done as effectively and simply as possible + to create beauty on the screen, you don’t have to spend crazy hours studying certain combos.
Locations are just a fairy tale. They are all different and they all have their own flavor and style. Remember the club at least or the acrobatics in the finals.
By the way, the sound didn’t disappoint either, although it’s not as cool as in part 4, but I like the music here better.
And overall, in my opinion, the game was a success. Although the first trailer also made me sick. Serious, like Nolonovskaya. 🙂
h.Y: yes, the girl is cute 🙂
I completely agree. After all, DMC4 is really quite underrated. Yes, this is not the best game in the series, but it’s quite good, even very. If for some reason you haven’t played it or not one of the Devil May Cry games at all, no questions asked, just go and play!
This can be said about Dark Souls, but it doesn’t matter. The important thing is that the new bosses have become boring and ordinary. Except for Virgil, perhaps. Japanese fantasy was much more sophisticated.
Yes, but how beautiful and dynamic they were. In the restart the videos weren’t even close.
So not all iconic features made it to the relaunch.
Overall I really like the style of the new DMC. The picture is very organically combined with sounds and music. And the level design… it’s just something with something. Rarely where else have I looked at and enjoyed the view of the levels as much as here. An effective and uncomplicated combat system is also a big plus, in my opinion. You can, without much fuss, produce the coolest pretzels that you’ll even be surprised by: D And with all this, you can easily recognize the good old DMC, which really warms the soul)
Mini story: I basically somehow lost sight of the new DMC at the time of its release. I saw the first trailer, it seemed a little strange to me, but overall I had a positive reaction to it. Since the end of 2012 I spent up to my ears in work and the 3rd Assassin (I was shaking his leg, I was spitting for a long time from the final chapters). And then at the beginning of 2013, one day I walked into my brother’s room and saw that he was playing some cool slasher game. I didn’t immediately realize what kind of Pokemon it was. But then, during the battle, I saw how he began to perform a spinning blow with a scythe, and it immediately dawned on me. What is this? Devil May Cry or something? And literally right there I saw Dante start shooting pistols, and all doubts immediately disappeared) This is definitely HIM. ) Well, then the nth number of pleasantly spent hours playing the game)
