What Chelsea make of Man United’s move for midfield sensation Andrey Santos – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Bolstering Manchester United’s midfield is expected to be top of INEOS’ agenda in 2026.

Ideally, United should have pulled off a marquee midfield signing last summer, but they did not.

A move for top target Carlos Baleba failed to materialise after Brighton & Hove Albion made it clear the midfielder was not going anywhere.

Having missed out on their priority target, United opted against panic buying, shelving plans to bring in a midfielder.

While United’s midfield has looked decent at times, it has occasionally been exposed, highlighting the need for a more dynamic presence in the middle of the park.

Several top midfielders have since been linked with a 2026 Old Trafford switch.

    Andrey Santos

One of those midfielders is Chelsea’s Andrey Santos.

Santos was also linked with a move to United last summer following his impressive loan spell at Strasbourg. There was talk of him being requested as part of the Alejandro Garnacho deal to Chelsea.

However, nothing came of those rumours, with the Samba star remaining at Chelsea.

At Stamford Bridge, the midfielder has struggled for minutes, with Moisés Caicedo enjoying his best run yet in a blue shirt and his partnership with Enzo Fernández continuing to flourish.

As a result, Santos has been forced into a backup role behind the duo, who are fast becoming undroppable in Enzo Maresca’s engine room.

    Game time issues

His limited game time, just two starts in eight Premier League matches, has inevitably sparked interest from elsewhere.

And now, Pete O’Rourke has dropped an intriguing update on Football Insider regarding the South American’s future.

He reports: “The midfielder’s ‘problem’ at Chelsea is the presence of Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández, and United would be prepared to offer him increased playing time.”

While such an offer would surely turn the player’s head, especially as he dreams of making the Brazil World Cup squad, a move to United will not be straightforward.

Chelsea’s stance on a Santos exit

“Chelsea have no plans to lose the midfielder to a Premier League rival, and he remains very highly regarded among those in positions of power at Stamford Bridge,” O’Rourke adds, underlining just how complicated this potential deal could become.

Despite his limited game time, mainly restricted to cameo appearances, it is understandable that the Blues are keen to retain him. When given the chance, Santos has impressed.

    Carabao brilliance

On Wednesday, he delivered a standout performance, scoring and assisting as 10-man Chelsea battled past Wolves to book their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

There is no doubt United, under INEOS, have an eye for emerging talent, and Santos certainly fits the mould of a player who could have been a shrewd addition.

His tenacious tackling, sharp vision, progressive passing, and knack for making late runs into the box could have transformed United’s midfield.

However, with Chelsea’s firm stance, this transfer may never materialise, prompting United to potentially pivot towards their other midfield targets, such as Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson.

  • Owen Hargreaves slams Manchester United’s summer transfer business – Man United News And Transfer News

Owen Hargreaves slams Manchester United’s summer transfer business – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United headed into the summer transfer market with major surgery required to the squad, after a record Premier League low of 15th sent shockwaves around Old Trafford.

INEOS were tasked with transforming the options available to Ruben Amorim who failed to get a tune out of the crop left behind by Erik ten Hag.

United struggled for goals last season and sought to solve that issue as a priority in the window.

Therefore, a new front line was granted to the Portuguese head coach in the shape of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

However, United are running into the same old issues and have found consistent performances hard to come by since the start of the new campaign.

Was the money better spent elsewhere?

United’s rocky opening to the season has heaped pressure on Amorim and Owen Hargreaves believes the summer moves have left more questions than answers around the new-look side.

As reported by The Mirror, Hargreaves claims the singings of Mbeumo and Cunha in particular have had a detrimental effect on Bruno Fernandes, who has found himself in a deeper role this term.

With the two new stars now occupying the roles behind the striker, Fernandes has been tasked with controlling things further away from the opposition’s goal.

Best number 10 in the division

Hargreaves says he would have used the summer budget in other areas in order for Fernandes to continue occupying his role as a number 10, where he has been so dangerous over the years.

“You have the best number 10 in the division, and you drop him (deeper) because you want someone to play through midfield because you have Cunha and Mbeumo.

“So why didn’t you just sign a central midfield player to play there and let Bruno do his thing with Cunha? Then a goalkeeper. It would have fixed a lot of issues,” he said.

Hargreaves adds that he can see the logic behind United’s summer strategy but clearly believes other positions should have been prioritised over multiple signings in attack.

“I appreciate that you needed more goals. They (United) have thought that more goals will get us higher up the table than, say, a world-class goalkeeper,” he said.

United did add to their goalkeeping ranks late in the market and early signs suggest Senne Lammens will be closer to solving that problem position than Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir.

Lammens’s solid debut against Sunderland has left him favorite to start the blockbuster fixture at Anfield this coming Sunday, with United gunning to leave a mark on their old rivals and finally get their season up-and-running.

Harry Kane race: United must improve on the pitch to pip Spurs – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

When Rasmus Hojlund signed for Manchester United, then-manager Erik ten Hag had asked the Glazers for additional support to avoid overburdening the Dane.

The club attempted to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, but Daniel Levy’s insistence on not strengthening a direct domestic rival meant the Englishman ultimately moved to Bayern Munich.

Ultimately, nobody else was signed. The Denmark international emerged as the top scorer, but 16 goals in all competitions can hardly be classified as a world-class season.

It was clear that he needed more help alongside him, which is why, after INEOS took charge of sporting affairs at the club, they tried to bring in more quality up front.

Harry Kane has been a long-term target

Once again, the Red Devils tried to go after Kane, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe a huge fan of the England international. But the costs proved too prohibitive, and Joshua Zirkzee arrived instead.

It is safe to say both Hojlund and the Dutch star failed to set the stage alight last season, with the Danish ace departing to Napoli this summer while the Netherlands international could follow suit very soon.

New signing Benjamin Sesko is showing signs of being the perfect striker for the Red Devils, but INEOS’ wish to try and bring in Harry Kane remains as strong as ever.

The fact that the 32-year-old has a relatively low release clause next summer makes him an even more attractive proposition.

United vs Spurs for Harry Kane

Bayern Munich are desperate to keep a hold of their “phenomenal” striker, but as per Teamtalk, his former club Spurs are ready to break the bank to bring him back to North London.

They hold the edge as of now, due to Kane’s emotional connect with the club, and the 20-time English league champions will have to seriously improve their form on the pitch to pip them in the race.

“Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a blockbuster move to bring Harry Kane back to north London next summer, aiming to reunite with their former star striker, TEAMtalk can reveal.

“The 32-year-old England captain, currently at Bayern Munich, is eager to return to the Premier League to chase Alan Shearer’s all-time scoring record of 260 goals. Kane, with 213 Premier League goals, believes he can surpass the milestone with a few productive seasons at Tottenham.

    Spurs hold the edge

“Sources close to the club indicate that Tottenham’s owners, ENIC, are prepared to break the bank to secure Kane’s signature, covering his hefty release clause and matching his substantial wages.

“The move is seen as a statement of intent from the Lewis family, who are keen to deliver a marquee signing to boost Spurs’ ambitions under Thomas Frank. The Danish manager has revitalised the squad, and Kane’s return could propel Tottenham into serious contention for silverware.

“Manchester United are also in the race for Kane, viewing him as a key piece in their rebuilding project. However, their chances hinge on improving their current mid-table position in the Premier League.”

Now over to Ruben Amorim to improve the team’s fortunes on the pitch. Sesko could certainly do with someone coming in to take the load off of his young shoulders.

Casemiro hails “soldier” Lisandro Martinez as star nears full fitness – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Ruben Amorim is preparing to welcome Lisandro Martinez back into his squad with the Argentinian defender nearing a return from long-term injury.

The 27-year-old has been out of action since February, when he suffered an ACL tear against Crystal Palace which saw him stretchered off the pitch.

But now it seems a return is drawing close, with the Manchester United man reportedly hoping to be available towards the end of the month.

    Casemiro update on “soldier” Martinez

One of United’s elder statesmen, Casemiro, was speaking to the club’s official website when his interview was interrupted by the sounds of Martinez working hard in the gym.

The Brazilian took the opportunity to heap praise on his teammate and give an update on his progress.

“Licha is on the final straight,” he said. “He is a soldier who works so hard. He is always in the gym working hard. He is a machine that works so hard. He is one of those players that loves to work hard.”

The 32-year-old added that it’s “a pleasure” to have the Argentinian at the club and noted that Martinez was still going strong at 4pm after getting started at 9am.

    Martinez an “essential” player

United are not short of options for the left-sided centre-back position favoured by Martinez, with the likes of Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Ayden Heaven getting minutes in that role.

But for Casemiro, Martinez is still an “essential” presence at the club. He explained: “I will be so glad for his return. It’s not just me – everyone is happy – because he is an essential player at the club that works so hard.”

Last month head coach Amorim reiterated that United miss the player, in particular “his aggression in everything he does.”

He also praised the 27-year-old for finishing his solo training and sticking around to watch the team’s session on the grass.

Martinez is clearly determined to get back to match fitness, and with Shaw looking shaky at times this season will be confident of getting first-team minutes before long.

Joshua Zirkzee’s price tag set as Brighton storm into race for Man United star – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Brighton and Hove Albion have reportedly become the latest club to join the race for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee.

    Zirkzee struggles at United

After finishing last season on a high following a difficult start, Zirkzee has struggled to build on that momentum, leaving his future shrouded in extreme uncertainty.

During the summer transfer window, United brought in three attacking players: Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. As a result, Zirkzee has slipped down the pecking order and found opportunities on the pitch increasingly hard to come by.

Zirkzee has yet to start a game this term, only managing 82 minutes of action across all competitions. He has been an unused substitute on four separate occasions.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the 24-year-old is unhappy with his situation and is firmly open to leaving United in January in search of regular playing time elsewhere.

Zirkzee is believed to be keen on forcing his way into the Netherlands team for the World Cup and in order to do so, he can’t afford to be on the bench.

There is no shortage of interest in the former Bologna man. He has been linked with the likes of Napoli, Juventus, AS Roma, Everton and West Ham.

Now, according to Graeme Bailey [via Sussex World], Brighton are also eyeing the disgruntled United star.

    Brighton want Zirkzee

The report states that Brighton are a “potential destination” for Zirkzee ahead of the winter window.

It’s understood that the player is valued at around €35–40 million, indicating that United could be open to letting him go after just two seasons.

Ruben Amorim is thought to be a fan of Zirkzee and would prefer to retain him, but circumstances could ultimately necessitate a parting of ways.

However, there are still several weeks to go before January, and much could change in that time. It also remains uncertain whether Brighton would be prepared to spend that much on Zirkzee, particularly given his well-known desire for a new challenge.

  • Crystal Palace chief opens up on Adam Wharton’s links to Manchester United – Man United News And Transfer News

Crystal Palace chief opens up on Adam Wharton’s links to Manchester United – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United are expected to sign a new midfielder in 2026 to address their issues in the middle of the park. Ruben Amorim has deployed Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in the midfield pivot, with mixed results so far.

While the Portuguese superstar has adapted his game well to suit a change in position, the Brazilian is not a long-term solution for the job. Casemiro is already in the final 12 months of his contract at the Theatre of Dreams and is likely to be on his way at the end of this season.

With the team struggling to control games, the Red Devils arguably need someone capable of orchestrating the midfield. Adam Wharton was already on the club’s radar in the summer, and recent reports suggest that he is back on their agenda.

Wharton a fine choice for the job

Wharton rose through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers before breaking into the first team in 2022. His performances at Ewood Park earned him admirers at Crystal Palace, who signed him in the summer of 2024.

Despite an injury-ravaged debut campaign, Wharton managed to catch the eye with his ball distribution and his ability to dictate the tempo from deep. He also played a key role in Palace’s FA Cup triumph, finishing the season with two assists from 26 games.

He has been outstanding for the London club this season, registering one assist in 10 games, all of which were starts. United legend Rio Ferdinand has already urged the club to sign the player, comparing him to former midfielder Michael Carrick.

A recent report from The Peoples Person stated that United are already preparing a £60m offer for the 21 year old in 2026, which they believe will be enough to convince the Eagles. Palace co-owner Steve Parish has now responded to the rumours.

    Palace relaxed about the situation

Speaking to talkSPORT, Parish acknowledged that Wharton will want to leave Selhurst Park for a Champions League club in the near future.

“I think Adam at some point will want to play either in the Champions League with us, if we can make that happen, or probably with another club,” said Parish.

“He’s an extraordinary talent. I think right now, and I can’t speak for Adam, but I think he’s focused on his time at Crystal Palace. He had a broken season last season with the groin issues that he had that a lot of young players get.

“I think this season he’s completely focused on putting the games in, getting in the England squad, being a regular for us, and making sure that he can show that Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday. It’s a difficult programme for us right now. I think he’s very committed to the club. I don’t know where all this stuff comes from.”

When asked about interest from United, Parish added: “If Manchester United want Adam Wharton, that’s nothing surprising really about that.”

“The fact of the matter is he’s got a long contract to run. There’s no pressure on us to do it, and I don’t think there’s any real pressure from the player either.”

Wharton has all the attributes to be an ideal partner for Bruno Fernandes at the heart of Amorim’s midfield. The Englishman’s presence could allow the Portuguese to resume his natural game and have a greater impact higher up on the pitch.

Wharton’s contract expires in 2029, but a recent report states that Palace are already planning to offer him a new deal. As such, prising him away from Selhurst Park may not be straightforward for United.

Man United have already made their decision on Kobbie Mainoo as winter exit links persist – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Word on the street is that come the winter transfer window, Kobbie Mainoo will once again ask to leave Manchester United.

Towards the end of the summer window, Mainoo requested a loan move.

The United midfield prodigy anticipated he would not play a key role under Ruben Amorim and wanted to join a club where regular game time was guaranteed.

With this being a FIFA World Cup year, the 20-year-old’s sole focus was earning a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England Three Lions squad.

United blocked the loan request, insisting he had a key role to play. But that promise has not held up.

    From prodigy to peripheral

Behind Bruno Fernandes in the pecking order, Mainoo has struggled for minutes.

Of the 900-plus minutes United have played this season, he has featured in just 207, a frustrating return for a player once hailed as the brightest talent to emerge from the academy.

From key man to squad player, Mainoo might feel his World Cup hope is slipping away.

However, he can revive that dream if he pushes for a move in January.

    Top clubs keen

Several top clubs are already circling. Napoli are pushing hard to reunite him with Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund in Naples, while Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation closely.

As speculation builds around a potential winter exit, transfer guru Pete O’Rourke has dropped a bombshell.

    INEOS already have their answer

While Mainoo dreams of a season-defining move in January, O’Rourke, via Football Insider, reveals:

“Manchester United don’t really want to let Kobbie Mainoo leave.

“They blocked any move from Mainoo, and I would imagine they would look to do the same in January because he probably will be needed by United for this season in case there’s any injuries or anything else.

“They’ll be confident that they can keep all of them, and I don’t think they’ll be willing to let such a talented player like that leave United when they probably need all their best players to help Ruben Amorim have a successful season.”

    Tricky situation

Hopefully, things change. Hopefully, Mainoo earns his place in Amorim’s line-up between now and the winter transfer window.

Because if he continues warming the bench, United’s No.37 may have no choice but to agitate for a move.

INEOS might believe they have already mapped out how to handle the Mainoo situation this winter, but it will not be as straightforward as they think.

Imagine United still blocking that move, leaving him to stagnate on the bench; he misses the World Cup.

Mainoo may never be the same after that.

Ivan Toney emerges as surprise target if this United star leaves – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

A meagre four Premier League goals in the whole of last season for Rasmus Hojlund proved to Ruben Amorim that the Dane was simply not good enough to lead the line for Manchester United on his own.

Despite the 22-year-old’s desire to stay and fight for his place, INEOS ruthlessly cast him aside, with the Denmark international joining Napoli on loan.

He is expected to join them permanently, given the kind of start he has enjoyed for the defending Serie A champions.

The co-owners decided to splurge big to land Benjamin Sesko as his replacement, and the Slovenian now has back-to-back Premier League goals and is showing signs that he is the perfect striker to play up front for the Red Devils.

    Zirkzee lack of minutes

The former RB Leipzig star’s superb form has meant hardly any minutes for Joshua Zirkzee, who is contemplating leaving in January, with Serie A and English top-flight outfits chasing his signature.

INEOS are expected to hold talks with him to convince him to stay, while Amorim also does not want the Dutchman to leave.

But should he continue to get overlooked, the 24-year-old will look to leave once the transfer window reopens as he looks to regain his place in the Netherlands national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

In that case, the Red Devils will look to recruit someone as a replacement and Talksport have suggested that Ivan Toney, currently playing for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, could be the chosen alternative.

The Englishman has been on fire for his club, netting eight times in 10 games this term, while in the previous campaign, he found the back of the net 30 times.

    Toney eyeing January loan

Ivan Toney remains intent on winning back his place in the England national team for the World Cup, and a short-term loan deal makes a lot of sense.

While no discussions are advanced at this stage, the 20-time English league champions could see Tottenham Hotspur join them in the race.

Thomas Frank, who is the current Spurs boss, was the 29-year-old’s manager during his time at Brentford, and a reunion could be on the cards.

“What’s going to be really interesting in the next few months is, will Thomas Tuchel tell Ivan Toney definitively, ‘By being in Saudi, you’re further down the pecking order’?,” journalist Ben Jacobs said.

“And Toney’s aspiration is to play in the World Cup. Plus the fact the way the calendar falls, there’s a Ramadan break and that is in the months, at the moment, of February through to mid-March.

United could pounce if Zirkzee leaves

“It wouldn’t actually be a bad idea for players that want to stay sharp, to do a half-season loan, and then maybe even go back to Saudi Arabia. There’ll be interest in Ivan Toney.

“Al Ahli sources say they don’t want to sell, there’s a brand new sporting director there and he doesn’t want to let Ivan Toney go. And then as far as Premier League interest, I think we’ve heard links with Tottenham due to the Thomas Frank connection.

“I’m not aware of any Spurs approach at this stage, some have even said Manchester United, and again, I think Manchester United are banking on Benjamin Sesko and they’ve also got Matheus Cunha, who can play at No.9.

“But if Joshua Zirkzee left, you never know, another striker could come in at Old Trafford but at the moment, it’s all quiet as far as a Premier League return is concerned.”

An experienced backup for Sesko would mean less pressure on the Slovenia international, but Toney’s wages would prove to be a major hurdle. And midfield seems to be the area in the most urgent need of reinforcements. INEOS also don’t want to lose Zirkzee. An interesting January window awaits for United.

Altay Bayindir: United set for ruthless transfer step – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United’s woes in goal have been an ongoing issue for several seasons now.

Former manager Erik ten Hag was left fed up with club legend David de Gea, and he eventually left as a free agent. The Dutchman opted to bring in Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir as backup.

The Cameroonian has been nothing short of a disaster, with mistakes galore in all competitions. His Carabao Cup horror show proved to be the final straw, and he was subsequently loaned out to Trabzonspor.

The Turkish side are keen to keep him at the club, while the ex-Ajax ace has still not given up hope of making it at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have no such plans, and he is likely to be offloaded once his loan ends next summer.

His backup, Altay Bayindir, has fared little better since his arrival from Fenerbahce. Ruben Amorim opted to start him in the opening six Premier League games, to disastrous results.

    Bayindir disasterclass

He was at fault for the only goal conceded against Arsenal on opening day, with the 20-time English league champions losing despite dominating the Gunners.

Mistakes against Fulham, and Brentford proved costly, and eventually, the head coach finally opted to hand a debut to Senne Lammens against Sunderland.

The Belgian proved to be a revelation, and is now set for a run of games, and the Portuguese tactician will be looking to get rid of the Turkiye international either in January or next summer, while bringing in an experienced face as backup.

“Andre Onana will never play for Manchester United again, sources have told TEAMtalk, with the future of another goalkeeper at Old Trafford under threat.

“Andre Onana is finished at Man Utd. We should have no doubts that he has played his last game for the club, and there is real hope that his loan move genuinely does turn into a permanent one.

“There is a sense of relief that he has started in a positive manner and that there is a sense of optimism that they can completely move on from him now.

    Time to go

“The entire situation around goalkeepers is looking much better in the past couple of weeks, with Lammens immediately bringing comfort to the United fans – and probably also his defence too.

“Onana will be replaced by another goalkeeper – and Bayindir may have to move on as well. The plan is for Lammens to become the number one, but there is very much a focus on making sure he will continue to earn that position if he stays there, rather than just being able to take the shirt for granted.”

It has been clear for sometime now that Altay Bayindir is not up to the task of being the club’s No.1 and is also far from a reliable backup.

Moving him on and bringing in someone like Emiliano Martinez or Mike Maignan would truly transform the goalkeeping department at the club.

Joshua Zirkzee: Amorim’s plans for forward now revealed – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Following Manchester United’s humiliating exit from the Carabao Cup, the number of matches the team will play has gone down drastically.

Until the start of the FA Cup, the Red Devils only have the Premier League to play for. And while Ruben Amorim is delighted with the added training time, several players are suffering due to the lack of game time.

Joshua Zirkzee, who started 15 times last season under the head coach, has yet to start a single game so far this campaign.

He has seen a grand total of 82 minutes of action, and remained an unused substitute in last weekend’s win over Sunderland.

    Joshua Zirkzee struggles

The 24-year-old has been left frustrated with the lack of minutes, and numerous reports have suggested that he is willing to part ways as early as January.

With the World Cup just around the corner, the ex-Bologna ace is hoping to get back into the Netherlands national team and for that to happen, he will have to play regularly.

Multiple Serie A clubs as well as English top-flight sides are willing to take a punt on the Dutchman, but as per Givemesport, Amorim does not want him to leave.

In fact, United have no intention of sanctioning an exit in the winter window, and come next summer, they will only entertain offers of above £43 million, the money they splurged in 2024 to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams.

“Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is prepared to leave the club in the January transfer window, even though manager Ruben Amorim wants him to stay, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed on the Market Madness podcast.

    Amorim’s plans

“According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Zirkzee is prepared to leave Manchester United when the January transfer window opens, but manager Amorim wants him to remain at Old Trafford for the second half of the campaign.

“United are reluctant to sanction an exit for Zirkzee in January, and a permanent sale is unlikely to be entertained for a book loss, just 18 months on from when they paid Bologna £43m to secure his signature.”

With Benjamin Sesko now at the club, Joshua Zirkzee is unlikely to get too many minutes up front, while Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount are ahead of him in the pecking order when it comes to the No.10 role.

His link-up play did impress fans, but as of now, there is not clear role for him, and it will be interesting to see what happens to him once the window opens again in January.
