Bryan Mbeumo breaks silence on Man Utd transfer

constant speculation as part of life in football, saying he’s learning to take it in stride amid links to two of the Premier League’s biggest sides.

After stepping up impressively in Ivan Toney’s absence last season, Mbeumo delivered 20 goals and seven assists, firmly establishing himself as Brentford’s standout performer.

His form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with United and Spurs both eager to strengthen their attacking options.

Although reports suggest Mbeumo leans toward a move to Old Trafford, Tottenham’s new manager Thomas Frank—who worked closely with him at Brentford—is pushing hard to reunite with the winger in North London.

‘It’s a bit new for me, I would say, but that can be the life of a footballer,’ Mbeumo told Sky Sports while on the grid at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.

‘You need to accept it.’

Mbeumo is delighted with how the season panned out, despite Brentford missing out on European qualification.

He added: ‘It’s been my best season so far in the Premier League and, even collectively, we did play very good games.

‘I think we’ve been unlucky in chasing the European spot, but it has been a fantastic season.’

Mbeumo credits Frank with developing him both as a ‘human and a player’ across his six years playing under the Dane at Brentford.

‘He’s done so much for me. He’s trusted me from the start and I think he developed the team so well, he developed me as a human and a player so much as well,’ Mbeumo explained.

‘I can only wish him all the best and I’m sure he’s going to do well.

‘He knows everything. He’s really smart, he knows the way he wants to bring the team and how he wants to play. I think he has been fantastic for Brentford.’

Mbeumo hopes Tottenham supporters are patient with Frank and give him the time and space he needs while he’s ‘adapting’ to a new environment.

‘He’s going to have some time to adapt, obviously,’ he went on.

‘Now, it’s going to change for him… more expectations, but I’m sure he’s going to do well.

‘He knows how to talk to people, how to build a group and that’s why we’ve been playing so well.’

Manchester United remain locked in talks with Brentford over a move for Bryan Mbeumo, but Tottenham Hotspur’s entry has complicated matters.

Especially with Spurs now appointing former Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their new boss. There have even been murmurs that the North London outfit are even ready to outbid the Red Devils to land the Cameroonian.

But Sky Sports have claimed that the 20-goal forward is still leaning towards moving to Old Trafford instead of Spurs, with the 20-time English league champions in the process of finalising their improved second offer.

The Bees are open to the 25-year-old’s exit, but are demanding more than £60 million to let him leave with United’s first offer of £45 million plus £10 million in bonuses rejected.

Bryan Mbeumo still leaning towards United move

The former Troyes star explained to Sky that transfer speculation is something new for him but he always knew that performing well meant this day would eventually come and he has to accept it.

“It (transfer speculation) is a bit new for me I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it.”

Scoring 20 goals for the London side is something the forward is proud of, explaining how it was an amazing season both personally and collectively for Brentford.

“It’s been my best season so far in the Premier League. And even collectively, I think we did play very good games. I think we’ve been unlucky to chase the Europe spot, but I think it’s been a fantastic season.”

He was also asked about his former boss’ move to North London, and Mbeumo was quick to praise Frank and his contributions to his career.

Praises Thomas Frank

“He’s done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start,” Mbeumo said. “I think he developed the team so well.

“He developed me as a human and a player as well. So I can only wish him all the best, and I’m sure he’s going to do well.”

There is nothing alarming from the player’s comments, and as long as INEOS can cough up the money, Bryan Mbeumo seems destined for Old Trafford.

Brentford are playing hardball over his price due to developments with Frank but the ball is in INEOS’ court. There is currently no need to panic, it is still advantage Manchester United.

‘Growing up watching this club, I understand the stature of it and how incredible it has been over the years,’ he told Chelsea’s official website.

‘I wanted to come here to win trophies. When I spoke to the club, everyone wanted to get back to the very top, and they have the quality and the players to do that.

‘The hunger and desire to keep adding trophies, to take the club back to where it belongs, that is the main objective.’

He added: ‘The most important thing for me last summer was going somewhere where I could play a lot of minutes.

‘That was the opportunity I felt I needed, to go and express myself and show the player I am.

‘Ipswich gave me that opportunity, which was so important, and I’m very grateful for that.’

Andy Robertson can still have an important role if he stays at Liverpool – Liverpool FC

The 2024/25 season was Andy Robertson‘s most underwhelming for Liverpool, and with interest in a transfer it promises to be a defining summer for the left-back.

Back in August, Robertson was entering into his eighth season at Anfield, where he has consistently been one of the best left-backs in the division.

Having passed his 30th birthday, though, there was a feeling that the years may finally have been catching up with him.

That proved to be true, and with a move to Atletico Madrid now a very real possibility, it presents a big question over how much Liverpool value their No. 26.

Worrying early signs

Robertson’s dependability has so often defined him, with the left-back reliable defensively and rarely performing below a seven out of 10.

That swiftly changed in the early months of 2024/25, however, with immediate signs suggesting that chinks in his armour were appearing.

All of a sudden, it felt as though wingers had the better of Robertson, not least Bukayo Saka, who turned him inside-out en route to scoring for Arsenal at the Emirates.

A red card at home to Fulham was a clear low point in the 31-year-old’s season, following an awful first touch and foul on former Liverpool youngster Harry Wilson.

It was a moment that epitomised much of Robertson’s campaign, and the fact that there was as much scrutiny on his defending as Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s felt telling.

Too often, it felt like he was at the scene of the crime when Arne Slot‘s side conceded a chance or even a goal.

Granted, he only made one direct error leading to a goal in the whole season, but there was only one other in the previous five years combined.

For the first time, there were genuine calls for Kostas Tsimikas to oust him as first-choice left-back, which happened sporadically but never for an extended spell.

A champion but far from perfect

In true bullish Robertson fashion, he spoke back in February about those writing him off, suggesting that some of the criticism had been harsh.

“A lot has probably been spoken about me this season, which is something that I haven’t quite experienced in my time here,” Robertson told Sky Sports.

“It’s in one way pleasing because I’ve had seven years of going under the radar, but now this season there’s been a bit more spotlight on me. It’s part and parcel of football.

“I’ve seen it happen to players before and I will see it happen to people in the future. Obviously, it’s my turn now.”

While some may have disagreed, Robertson showed a spirited response to his dip, enjoying an improved remainder of the season.

His only assist of 2024/25 came at home to Arsenal – a perfectly executed cross to Cody Gakpo – and the errors were reduced.

Even the own goal against West Ham at Anfield was Virgil van Dijk‘s fault, which the left-back made sure to remind his captain of.

It is also worth stressing that Robertson’s season was still only ‘disappointing’ by his high standards – plenty of left-backs would be happy with the level he found.

By the end of 2024/25, he was a confirmed two-time Premier League champion, cementing his place near the top of the best left-backs in the competition’s history.

That said, he had been one of Liverpool’s more hit-and-miss players in a great season, which may explain what could be a pivotal summer.

A changing of the guard

Every great player eventually drifts past his peak and needs to be replaced, and that’s the brutal reality with Robertson currently.

And with Milos Kerkez now lined up as his successor, it comes as no surprise he appears to be considering a move away.

Atletico Madrid are his proposed destination, with suggestions Robertson himself is open to the move and that Liverpool would be willing to facilitate a smooth exit after eight years of incredible service.

Years of marauding up and down the left flank have understandably caught up with him, and his dwindling pace makes him a target for opponents, having previously been so rock-solid.

In Kerkez, Liverpool have a tailor-made successor lined up, with the 21-year-old a tenacious player carrying similar attributes to a young Robertson.

If he does opt to stay the Scot still has plenty to offer as a squad player, with Tsimikas widely considered the more expendable option.

There are after all more factors to consider beyond his immediate role on the pitch, as he is one of the most experienced players in the squad and one of their established dressing-room leaders.

But with only one year remaining on his current deal, both Robertson and Liverpool have a big decision to make.

The club’s ideal scenario may be seeing how he fares early next season and weighing up whether a new contract is the best outcome, but that could rest on the player’s own desires.

This summer feels like a changing-of-the-guard moment at left-back for Liverpool, but still too soon for a parting of the ways.

It would be just like him to fend off the threat of Kerkez and start the opening games of next season.

Best moment: An inch-perfect assist for Cody Gakpo against Arsenal.

Worst moment: The red card at home to Fulham.

Role next season: If he stays, competing with Kerkez to be the first-choice left-back.

If ARSENAL could get a deal for Osimhen over the line it would send a massive statement to the rest of the Premier League, and we would all love to see what the Nigerian star could do in the Premier League.

But his high asking price and high wages will be the biggest issue that is for sure and it will be interesting to see if he rejects a move to Saudi Arabia should a big contract offer arrive.

Man United close in on Viktor Gyokeres moves

Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly ‘furious’ with Sporting Lisbon bosses, as he is keen to make a move away from the Portuguese giants amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

Gyokeres has become one of the most in-demand strikers in world football after another season in which he broke the 50 goal barrier in all competitions, and is a player that is heavily tipped to make the move to the Premier League.

Arsenal are desperate to add to that front line after another season in which they played brilliant football, but failed to pick up any trophies that would add to the FA Cup Mikel Arteta has won since being boss of the Gunners.

Man United are also very desperate to add to that squad and are very keen to re-unite Ruben Amorim with the player that brought him so much success over in the Portuguese League, they really need a new striker at the club.

Despite links with the Premier League 12 months ago, Gyokeres remained at Sporting but it was reportedly agreed that he could leave for favourable terms this summer.

The forward is said to have made a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ with his current club at the start of last season.

One of those conditions was reportedly that Sporting would accept around £60m to relinquish him, but According to Portuguese outlet Record, Gyokeres believes Sporting have now gone back on that promise and are demanding clubs pay closer to £80 million.

Manchester United are reportedly willing to end discussions over Bryan Mbeumo should negotiations with Brentford stall over valuation differences.

Boosting United’s goal output is believed to be Ruben Amorim’s top priority after a toothless 2024/25 campaign that saw the club finish a lowly 15th in the Premier League and with a humiliating -10 goal difference.

After confirming the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, United’s attention is now on getting a deal for Mbeumo over the line, after he was identified as an ideal alternative to slot alongside Cunha in one of the two number 10 positions.

Mbeumo enjoyed a brilliant campaign with the Bees, notching a career-high 20 top-flight goals.

Earlier this summer, David Ornstein revealed that Mbeumo’s preferred transfer destination is United, despite interest from Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, this decision was made before Thomas Frank left Brentford for Tottenham to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Tottenham are pursuing Mbeumo, having been given encouragement that the Cameroonian is keen on following Frank to North London. It was subsequently claimed that the Europa League winners had tabled a bid worth £70million for Mbeumo.

United’s £55 million opening bid was swiftly rejected by Brentford, who are holding out for more.

According to Muppetiers, he remains confident that United will eventually get a deal for Mbeumo over the line, but it will be on the Red Devils’ terms and not Brentford’s.

Muppetiers state that Amorim’s side will not hesitate to walk away and focus on other targets if Brentford do not demonstrate a willingness to compromise.

“Remember, the way that we operate, the way that United operate under INEOS, this new management with these new people in place…they’re not just going to overpay, they’re just not.”

“They’re not going to sit there and go, ‘They want £70million, we’re going to do it no matter what.’ That’s not how it works. They [INEOS] have a valuation for their players and they go for that valuation. That’s the truth of it.”

“We saw it with [Jarrad] Branthwaite and others. They will walk if they don’t get the deals that they want. They will walk away if the valuation is too high and £70million is too high. They won’t pay that for him. That’s above the valuation for the player.”

On reports that Tottenham have stormed into the race for Mbeumo, Muppetiers says, “I will say this and as far as I can see, as far as I know from the conversations I’ve had, the strong feeling is that the whole thing is a bit of a red herring.”

“The whole thing is a bit of a game between Spurs and Brentford.”

“They’ve had all this communication, they’ve just taken their manager and it’s a bit of a game to push United [to table a higher bid].”

Muppetiers notes that Tottenham are indeed interested in Mbeumo but their admiration for the forward is not new, and they know the player wants United.
