Joshua Zirkzee: Amorim’s plans for forward now revealed – Man United News And Transfer News

Following Manchester United’s humiliating exit from the Carabao Cup, the number of matches the team will play has gone down drastically.

Until the start of the FA Cup, the Red Devils only have the Premier League to play for. And while Ruben Amorim is delighted with the added training time, several players are suffering due to the lack of game time.

Joshua Zirkzee, who started 15 times last season under the head coach, has yet to start a single game so far this campaign.

He has seen a grand total of 82 minutes of action, and remained an unused substitute in last weekend’s win over Sunderland.

    Joshua Zirkzee struggles

The 24-year-old has been left frustrated with the lack of minutes, and numerous reports have suggested that he is willing to part ways as early as January.

With the World Cup just around the corner, the ex-Bologna ace is hoping to get back into the Netherlands national team and for that to happen, he will have to play regularly.

Multiple Serie A clubs as well as English top-flight sides are willing to take a punt on the Dutchman, but as per Givemesport, Amorim does not want him to leave.

In fact, United have no intention of sanctioning an exit in the winter window, and come next summer, they will only entertain offers of above £43 million, the money they splurged in 2024 to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams.

“Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is prepared to leave the club in the January transfer window, even though manager Ruben Amorim wants him to stay, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed on the Market Madness podcast.

    Amorim’s plans

“According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Zirkzee is prepared to leave Manchester United when the January transfer window opens, but manager Amorim wants him to remain at Old Trafford for the second half of the campaign.

“United are reluctant to sanction an exit for Zirkzee in January, and a permanent sale is unlikely to be entertained for a book loss, just 18 months on from when they paid Bologna £43m to secure his signature.”

With Benjamin Sesko now at the club, Joshua Zirkzee is unlikely to get too many minutes up front, while Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount are ahead of him in the pecking order when it comes to the No.10 role.

His link-up play did impress fans, but as of now, there is not clear role for him, and it will be interesting to see what happens to him once the window opens again in January.

  • Details of JJ Gabriel and Amorim’s interaction now revealed – Man United News And Transfer News

Details of JJ Gabriel and Amorim’s interaction now revealed – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Saturday’s win over Sunderland will have helped relieve some of the pressure on Ruben Amorim following Manchester United’s dismal start to the new season.

One of the biggest criticisms faced by the head coach is his reluctance to tweak his system and adapt to the players at his disposal.

And this season, the Portuguese tactician has surprisingly overlooked the academy, which he had trusted immensely the previous term.

Sending Harry Amass out on loan perplexed quite a few people, while Chido Obi’s absence has also raised eyebrows.

    Rise of JJ Gabriel

However, one Carrington wonderkid who has caught the former Sporting CP boss’ eye is JJ Gabriel. He is 14 and is already setting the stage alight with his performances for the U18s this season.

So impressed has Amorim been with him that he met him personally and even promised to call him to train with the first team on occasions this season.

He is in line to become the youngest-ever Premier League debutant, and The Manchester Evening News detailed what transpired when the Portuguese spent time with the England U15 international.

Dubbed “the best talent United’s academy has ever seen”, Amorim explained his system and his philosophy to the young attacker, while also explaining the need to have a strong work ethic at his age.

Amorim recounted his experiences with former United legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who was known to arrive first to training while being the last to leave.

“United know they have a special talent on their hands and recently introduced Gabriel to Ruben Amorim. During their exchange, Amorim spent time discussing his philosophy and stressed the importance of working hard, even recalling an anecdote about Cristiano Ronaldo as an example.

    Interaction with Amorim

“Amorim played alongside Ronaldo for Portugal’s national team. The United boss recounted stories about Ronaldo’s work ethic – he was the first to report for training and the last to leave.

“Gabriel does not lack a work ethic. He is already living like a dedicated professional athlete with his diet and recovery sessions, and wakes up at 6am most days to make his dream a reality.”

Thankfully, JJ Gabriel’s work ethic is also top-notch. United have him for two years, but lots of clubs are on his tail.

Darren Fletcher, his U18s coach, is helping him hone his game even further by playing him up top. INEOS will need to convince him to stay and prove his worth at Old Trafford. A first-team debut would do nicely.

  • Why deploying Lisandro Martinez in Ruben Amorim’s shaky Man United midfield is a bad idea – Man United News And Transfer News

Why deploying Lisandro Martinez in Ruben Amorim’s shaky Man United midfield is a bad idea – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

If there is one position causing concern among Manchester United fans, it is the midfield, and it is no surprise that they are floating some intriguing ideas to address it.

United enjoyed a decent summer transfer window, no doubt. But it could have been a 10/10 window had INEOS delivered Ruben Amorim the “mobile midfielder” his system craves.

With Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, Amorim has decent options, but the midfield still lacks balance.

    United’s midfield pivot

Fernandes is a guaranteed starter; you want your best player on the pitch. However, finding the ideal partner for the Portuguese Magnifico has proven to be tricky.

Mainoo is viewed as Fernandes’ understudy, while Ugarte is yet to adapt to the Premier League’s intensity. Casemiro, currently the preferred option, no longer possesses the athleticism he once did.

United’s midfield is crying out for a “mobile midfielder” who INEOS failed to deliver, despite a bold pursuit of Carlos Baleba. While this transfer need may be revisited next year, for now, Amorim must look within for solutions.

    Martinez in midfield

Interestingly, as suggestions on how Amorim might restore balance to his midfield have begun to surface, the idea of trialling Lisandro Martinez in midfield is gathering momentum.

Martinez is among United’s most technically gifted players, thanks to his ability with the ball at his feet, his intelligence, and his passing range.

The argument is that if deployed in midfield, the South American has the vision to dictate play, is press-resistant, and can shield the defence with his great defensive attributes, all qualities that should help him thrive in the role.

However, as gifted as he is, it has already been made clear why Martinez cannot be the solution for United’s midfield, especially under Amorim.

Martinez lacks a key ingredient for Amorim’s midfield

Obviously, alongside Fernandes, Amorim wants an athletic midfielder, someone with the legs to “cover huge ground” and fill the space left when the Portuguese Magnifico pushes forward.

Martinez, for all his technical brilliance, lacks that athletic edge which Erik ten Hag flagged long ago.

Speaking to ESPN in 2021, as relayed by Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag said, “Daley Blind does not have the running capacity to play in midfield. And neither does Martinez.”

So, as brilliant as Martinez might be, pairing him with Fernandes would not work; it is a bad idea. The same gaps seen when Casemiro partners with Fernandes would likely reappear, so Martinez would not solve the problem.

It is also worth noting that playing in midfield would require more ground to be covered, more tackles to be made, and more contact to be absorbed than the United number six faces as a left-sided centre-back, thereby raising the risk of recurring injuries.

    Martinez’s resurgence

Expected to return from injury soon after a steady recovery, United fans will hope Martinez picks up from where he left off.

That ACL injury in February came at the worst possible time, just as he was starting to dictate play from United’s LCB, proving his class.

Hopefully, that is where he picks up from. However, realistically, given the severity of his injury, it may take time before he finds his rhythm again.

    Amorim’s midfield dilemma

As for United’s midfield, Amorim must find a way to get the best from what he has because, frankly, he has no other choice at least until the transfer window reopens.
