"It would give a huge boost": Club boss confesses "dream" of signing United star in ultimate fairytale move

Middelfart Boldklub manager Kim Engstrøm has opened up on his “dream” of signing departing Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen’s departure was confirmed by United last month after the final game of the 2034/25 Premier League season.

United announced that Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof will all be leaving once their contracts expire on June 30.

This means that Eriksen is set to be a free agent after three years at Old Trafford.

It doesn’t appear like he is short of suitors. Eriksen has been linked to MLS clubs, Ajax, Galatasaray and more recently, Championship outfit Wrexham.

Eriksen also strongly hinted that he might be open to a return to Tottenham Hotspur, who have appointed Thomas Frank as their new boss.

Frank and Eriksen worked together for a season at Brentford before the midfielder joined United on a free.

Now, as he approaches the twilight of a distinguished career, Eriksen has been handed the opportunity to complete what would be a true fairytale move.

Middelfart boss Kim Engstrøm, who leads the very club from Eriksen’s hometown where the midfielder began his football journey, has made it clear that the door is wide open for the United star.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Engstrøm remarked, “I think that if you ask all the residents of Middelfart, they all have a dream that Christian Eriksen will one day play senior football for Middelfart.”

“Now we got Mads Greve home this winter from Vendsyssel, and I know that he is not quite at Eriksen’s level, but it has lifted the town a lot that one of their boys has returned home.”

“It has also given a boost in terms of spectators. We have gone from 3-400 in the autumn to having over 1000 in several matches and 1500 most recently.”

“It’s clear that it would give a huge boost to Middelfart Municipality. As a coach, it would also be a dream. I think he plans to play a few more years abroad before returning home, and then the question is whether he’s too old.”

Engstrøm added, “He has family in Middelfart, so he is here sometimes, and in the clubhouse there are shirts with Eriksen and Falk hanging. The parent club had its 125th anniversary a month ago, where he also sent a video greeting , so there is contact and a dialogue.”

“So far there has been no dialogue in relation to playing matches, but the dream is always alive for Middelfart . Whether it also lives inside Christian’s head, I don’t know.”

According to Tipsbladet, Eriksen has kept close ties with Middelfart over the years. When he signed for Tottenham, he contributed 300,000 kroner to the club, and during his stint at Ajax, he donated a synthetic ‘Cruyff Court’ to support their development.

However, at present, Eriksen is not thought to be considering a return to play in his native Denmark.

Key Chelsea star asked to be left out of Club World Cup to secure move

Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic opted to exclude himself from the Club World Cup to focus on securing his future.

The Serbian shot-stopper, who impressed during his loan spell at Strasbourg last season, has returned to Chelsea but is seeking guaranteed first-team opportunities—something the club cannot currently offer him.

Reports indicate that Petrovic requested to be left out of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the tournament, a decision that Chelsea’s management has respected, maintaining a positive relationship with the player.

Both parties agreed that rather than traveling to the United States, Petrovic would be better off exploring potential moves elsewhere.

If he does not secure a permanent transfer that meets his expectations, he is expected to rejoin Chelsea for pre-season training in July.

Strasbourg has shown interest in signing him permanently, while several Premier League clubs, including West Ham, and other European teams are also monitoring his situation.

Chelsea had initially planned to include Petrovic in their Club World Cup squad, despite their unsuccessful bid to sign AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.

The Blues’ offer for Maignan was rejected, as Milan demanded nearly double the proposed fee, despite the French goalkeeper having only one year left on his contract and refusing to extend.

Chelsea may revisit their pursuit of Maignan when the transfer window reopens, but Maresca remains confident in his current goalkeeping options—Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, and Mike Penders—which contributed to Petrovic’s uncertain role in the squad.

Among Chelsea’s loanees, Andrey Santos is the only one included in the Club World Cup squad, while Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, and Axel Disasi have been left out.

Meanwhile, new signings Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr will be part of the traveling squad to the U.S.

The Times journalist Paul Joyce wrote on social media: “Liverpool have submitted a revised offer to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz of £113 million as talks continue between the clubs.

“The package guarantees Leverkusen £100 million with the additional £13 million in add-ons.”

But, just hours after that news, one current Liverpool player, in the shape of Federico Chiesa, has reportedly expressed his desire to depart in the summer.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano said: “Understand Federico Chiesa’s priority for this summer transfer window is to return to Italy.

“Chiesa loves Liverpool but limited game time an issue and Italian clubs started contacts to be informed on potential deal conditions.”

Chiesa, 27, made the switch to Liverpool last summer from Juventus in a transfer reportedly valued at £10 million.

Unfortunately, the winger struggled with multiple injuries, preventing him from securing a consistent place in Arne Slot’s starting lineup.

Over the course of the season, Chiesa featured in just 14 matches across all competitions, contributing two goals and two assists.

Reflecting on his time at Liverpool, he recently described the past year as one filled with “many difficulties.”

As reported by The Express, the Italian told Corriere dello Sport: “In the first few months there were many difficulties.

“If you think that I arrived in Liverpool on August 26 and found myself catapulted to another planet, with other teammates, without having trained with them, but with a trainer, no friendlies, nothing.”

Chiesa added: “(I was up against) the Ballon d’Or, or one of the candidates for the award (in Mohamed Salah). “(On the left) there were Luis Diaz and (Cody) Gakpo. Slot also made me play as a nine.

“The desire to play was there, I put it aside, I understood the situation. I put aside every form of individualism.”

Inter Milan have shown interest in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, as per reports.

On the back of their embarrassing Champions League final defeat in Munich, Inter have seemingly accelerated their efforts to transform their attack, which failed to register a single goal against Paris Saint-Germain.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Inter are pursuing a deal for United striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Now, according to The Sun, the Nerazzurri are interested in signing Rashford as part of their rebuild following the Champions League demolition.

Aston Villa have the option to turn Rashford’s loan deal into a permanent transfer but they are not expected to exercise the £40 million clause after missing out on Champions League football despite his incredible showing.

The 27-year-old was directly involved in 10 goals, 4 goals and 6 assists, in 17 appearances under Unai Emery.

Meanwhile, his form is also unlikely to resurrect his United career, as he exited Old Trafford after falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim.

It is understood Rashford is “frantically searching for a new club” putting Inter on “red-alert”.

Inter’s toothless attack also played a part in their disastrous Serie A run during the business end of the campaign, giving Napoli a crucial edge and ultimately, the Scudetto.

Accordingly, Inter’s hierarchy believe Rashford could be a “key acquisition” to strengthen their attack. The idea of moving to Italy also “excites” the England international.

United want to part ways with Rashford on a permanent basis but the Serie A giants are reported to be exploring the option of a “long-term loan move.”

Barcelona are also thought to be chasing the United academy product but their financial predicament might make any deal tough to complete.
