Back in August, he was pulled from the starting line-up against West Ham United shortly before kick-off, then spent two weeks receiving treatment before returning to score off the bench against Brentford last month.

Just a week later, he was substituted early in the defeat to Manchester United and has missed the last four matches.

Enzo Maresca ruled out any chance of him featuring in last weekend’s win over Liverpool, and his honest remarks suggest Palmer might still be unavailable after the October international break.

“Cole is still out,” he confessed last Friday. “I don’t have any updates at the moment. We have a meeting this week to see how he is, and we will then decide [whether he can return after the international break].”

While many Chelsea players have been away on international duty recently, Palmer also appears to have left west London.

Photos showing the Chelsea talisman with fans in Dubai have appeared online. It’s unclear why he traveled to the Middle East, though some believe he may have gone to see a specialist.

Another possibility is that he was given time off after several weeks of being unable to train at Cobham.

According to the Daily Mail, Palmer is expected to be out for weeks rather than months, with a return in November now likely, as the injury isn’t serious enough to need surgery.

There’s another two-week domestic break scheduled for November, making it unlikely that Palmer will be allowed to leave Chelsea and head to St George’s Park.

Comments from Thomas Tuchel have added to the concern, with the England boss describing the issue as “chronic”.

Palmer has not yet received a Three Lions call-up this season, and that situation seems unlikely to change before the year ends.

Given his recent impact, Chelsea will be keen to see Palmer back on the pitch soon—but not at the risk of worsening his condition.

Though he didn’t play in the win over Liverpool, Palmer was actively involved in the post-match celebrations after their thrilling victory against the Premier League champions.

Among those matchups, Mikel Arteta’s squad is set to travel to Italy to face Inter Milan on January 26, 2026 — a repeat of their 2024/25 encounter at the same venue, where Arsenal fell 1-0 on matchday four.

Inter Milan, who placed fourth in last season’s league phase, advanced past Barcelona in the semi-finals before suffering a record-breaking defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the final — the heaviest loss in Champions League final history.

Arsenal, still smarting from their previous loss at the San Siro, will be eager to settle the score. However, UEFA’s newly introduced rule may block a third consecutive meeting at the same stadium.

According to UEFA’s Club Competitions Committee, starting from the 2026/27 season, no fixture between the same two clubs can be hosted by the same team three years in a row in the same competition. This means that although Arsenal will visit the San Siro again in January 2026, a repeat in the following season would violate the new regulation.

This adjustment aims to ensure greater fairness and variety in match scheduling, especially as the Champions League continues to evolve under its new 36-team league format.

The website adds: “This means that if any teams that already played against each other in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League in the 2024/25 season are again drawn against each other, with the same home team, in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League in this 2025/26 season, those teams will not be able to be drawn against each other with the same home team in the 2026/27 season (although, for the sake of clarity, those teams could still be drawn against each other at the venue of the other team)”.

In short, if they were pitted against each other next campaign, then the game would take place at the Emirates.

This rule change would also stop Real Madrid from playing Liverpool at Anfield in the 2026/27 Champions League league phase.

Arsenal, who are yet to announce their squad list for the competition’s league phase, have until 24:00 CET on Tuesday, September 2 to do the needful.

“Every club must submit two lists of players, including details such as shirt number, date of birth and nationality,” the UEFA website reads.

“In addition, the lists must include confirmation by the club’s doctor that all players have undergone the requested medical examination. List A needs to be submitted to the relevant association to be verified, validated and forwarded to UEFA by 24:00 CET on Tuesday 2 September. The same process applies to List B (more details below), which must be submitted no later than 24:00 CET the day before each match.”

Maelys Mpome joins Brighton from Chelsea

Brighton have signed centre-back Maelys Mpome from CHELSEA in a permanent deal, the Blues have announced on the club website after the defender decided to make the move this summer

Chelsea posted: ‘ Mpome joined Chelsea in 2024, following a four-year stint at Montpellier in her native France.

‘The 22-year-old made her Blues debut when she was introduced as a late substitute during a Champions League group-stage match against Real Madrid in October 2024.

‘In February 2025, the defender made her first Women’s Super League appearance against Everton, before going on to appear on four more occasions during the remainder of the campaign as we went on to win a domestic Treble in 2024/25.

‘On the international stage, Mpome has represented France at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-20 levels before going on to make 10 appearances for the Under-23 side.

‘The centre-back now makes a permanent move to the English south coast, where she will play in the WSL next season.

‘Everyone at CHELSEA would like to wish Maelys the very best for the future as she begins a new chapter in her career.’

Brighton posted: ‘We’re delighted to confirm the permanent signing of central defender Maelys Mpome from Chelsea, subject to the usual regulatory processes.’

Head coach Dario Vidosic said, “We’re pleased to have Maelys with us. She’s had some exposure to the WSL already and we feel she can really develop with us.

“She’s a versatile defender with a lot of good attributes and we’re looking forward to working with her.”

There were rumours of the Italian staying put, but now, Stretty News have claimed that United are preparing their first official offer for the “generational” goalkeeper.

PSG reportedly valued Donnarumma at more than £30 million, but INEOS are preparing to submit an opening offer in the region of £26 million.

“Manchester United are ready to launch an onslaught for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose future is engulfed in uncertainty.

“Sources close to Stretty News reveal that Man Utd are preparing to launch an offer worth £26 million for the Euro 2020 hero. This figure might be deemed sufficient, given that the player’s contract will expire in less than a year.

“These sources also confirm Donnarumma’s great desire to embark on a new career chapter in the Premier League.”

So far this window, the Red Devils have refrained from submitting an offer for a target if the player has not expressed his desire to move to Manchester, as seen from the Benjamin Sesko case.

If this report is true, the former AC Milan ace seems to be keen on a switch to Old Trafford even without Champions League football.

That explains why he has rejected mega-money moves to Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
