Casemiro hails “soldier” Lisandro Martinez as star nears full fitness – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Ruben Amorim is preparing to welcome Lisandro Martinez back into his squad with the Argentinian defender nearing a return from long-term injury.

The 27-year-old has been out of action since February, when he suffered an ACL tear against Crystal Palace which saw him stretchered off the pitch.

But now it seems a return is drawing close, with the Manchester United man reportedly hoping to be available towards the end of the month.

    Casemiro update on “soldier” Martinez

One of United’s elder statesmen, Casemiro, was speaking to the club’s official website when his interview was interrupted by the sounds of Martinez working hard in the gym.

The Brazilian took the opportunity to heap praise on his teammate and give an update on his progress.

“Licha is on the final straight,” he said. “He is a soldier who works so hard. He is always in the gym working hard. He is a machine that works so hard. He is one of those players that loves to work hard.”

The 32-year-old added that it’s “a pleasure” to have the Argentinian at the club and noted that Martinez was still going strong at 4pm after getting started at 9am.

    Martinez an “essential” player

United are not short of options for the left-sided centre-back position favoured by Martinez, with the likes of Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Ayden Heaven getting minutes in that role.

But for Casemiro, Martinez is still an “essential” presence at the club. He explained: “I will be so glad for his return. It’s not just me – everyone is happy – because he is an essential player at the club that works so hard.”

Last month head coach Amorim reiterated that United miss the player, in particular “his aggression in everything he does.”

He also praised the 27-year-old for finishing his solo training and sticking around to watch the team’s session on the grass.

Martinez is clearly determined to get back to match fitness, and with Shaw looking shaky at times this season will be confident of getting first-team minutes before long.

  • Supercomputer predicts 2025-26 Premier League table in full

    [ad_1]

A data-driven forecast reveals dramatic shifts across the Premier League, from title contenders to relegation battles, based on early-season form.

The Supercomputer’s updated forecast for the 2025-26 Premier League season sees..Continue Reading

Arsenal crowned champions, with Liverpool trailing by seven points and Manchester City settling for third.

Following the first seven rounds of the campaign, the Supercomputer powered by Plejmo has recalibrated its expectations for the final standings.

Last season, while many anticipated Manchester City’s dominance, it was Liverpool under Arne Slot who stormed to their 20th English league title, reclaiming their historic status.

Arsenal secured second place for the third consecutive season, and Pep Guardiola’s squad rallied late to finish third. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest stunned with European qualification, while Tottenham and Manchester United endured historically poor seasons.

Now, fresh simulations have been run based on the fixture list and early performances. Here’s how the table is projected to shape up:

    Relegation Zone

    – Burnley are expected to finish bottom with 33 points.
    – Wolves, still winless after seven games, are predicted to concede 78 goals and land in 19th.
    – West Ham, under Nuno Espirito Santo, are tipped for 18th with 40 points.

Survival looks likely for Leeds United and Sunderland, both sitting on 41 points, with Brentford narrowly above the drop zone.

    Bottom Half

    – Manchester United remain troubled under Ruben Amorim, projected to finish 14th with 43 points.
    – Fulham are expected to replicate last season’s 13th-place finish.
    – Everton, despite new ownership and signings like Jack Grealish, are forecasted to land in 12th.
    – Brighton & Hove Albion, led by Fabian Hurzeler, are predicted to drop to 11th.

    Top Half

    – Nottingham Forest, now under Ange Postecoglou, are projected to fall to 10th.
    – Aston Villa could climb to 9th, despite early struggles.
    – Newcastle United, even after losing Alexander Isak, are expected to finish 8th.
    – Bournemouth, under Andoni Iraola, are tipped for 7th and a Europa Conference League spot.
    – Crystal Palace, guided by Oliver Glasner, are forecasted to finish 6th, securing Europa League qualification.
    – Tottenham, rebounding from last season’s 17th-place, are projected to finish 5th.

    Top Four

    – Chelsea, under Todd Boehly’s leadership, are predicted to finish 4th, just one point above fifth.
    – Manchester City are expected to settle for 3rd, with Erling Haaland in strong form.
    – Liverpool, despite record-breaking signings like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, are forecasted to finish 2nd.
    – Arsenal, led by Mikel Arteta, are projected to win the league with 90 points, finally ending a two-decade title drought.

United hit with crushing setback in pursuit of key target as rival PL club nears full agreement to sign him – David Ornstein

    [ad_1]

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres are hanging on by a thread following the latest update on his transfer situation.

    Gyokeres on United’s radar

United’s interest in Gyokeres has been reported for months now and these links only grew stronger after the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s replacement in November last year.

The pair, of course, enjoyed a successful spell together at Sporting, fuelling speculation that a sensational reunion at Old Trafford could be on the cards.

Gyokeres enjoyed a prolific 2024/25 campaign, netting a mind-boggling 54 goals in 52 appearances as Sporting won the league and cup double.

However, having missed out on qualifying for the Champions League after the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, it emerged that Gyokeres’ preferred transfer destination was Arsenal, as they could give him the opportunity to play on the continent’s biggest stage.

Arsenal have had at least one bid rejected for the Swede, with personal terms already agreed.

But, a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Gyokeres was gradually warming up to the idea of joining United. The Red Devils received further encouragement after Sporting president Frederico Varandas publicly warned Arsenal that Gyokeres will not be sold to them unless the Portuguese club’s valuation is met.

However, any lingering hopes United harboured of bringing in the 27-year-old have been all but dashed, with Arsenal finding a breakthrough in their discussions with Sporting.

    Arsenal closing in on Gyokeres

According to the reliable David Ornstein, the Gunners are on the brink of reaching an agreement with Sporting for the talisman.

Ornstein reveals, “Arsenal are in the process of completing a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres after taking final steps in negotiations with Sporting CP for the striker.”

“Talks have been prolonged by Sporting president Frederico Varandas refusing to accept what Gyokeres believes was an agreement to leave this summer for €60million plus €10m of add-ons.”

“That amount is exceeded by Arsenal’s proposals and they have now made formal advances over terms of the switch in a bid to close the proposed transfer.”

This has also been confirmed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

With Liam Delap off the market and Gyokeres seemingly heading the same way, it looks like United will need to get creative in their search for a striker.
