  • Man United news now – Gyokeres – Mbeumo

    [ad_1]

Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news, gossip and transfer latest featuring the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Bryan Mbeumo and Ronald Araujo that we think you guys may have missed…

Sporting CP has revealed why they will refuse to sell Manchester United and Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres below their valuation during this summer transfer window.

Manchester United had a pretty poor season last year and lost far too many games for the size of the club, with many believing that Rubem Amorim may not even be the boss this summer window.

However – the Portuguese man is still in charge and has already made a few signings that should make an impact for next season, but he still wants to keep adding to his squad over the next few months.

Viktor Gyokeres is a player that has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League over the past few transfer windows, with many reports suggesting that Amorim would love to bring his former player to Old Trafford.

But if the likes of Manchester United want to secure a deal for Gyokeres on the cheap, that wont happen as Sporting Lisbon CP have sent a clear transfer message – Frederico Varandas told O Jogo: “Sporting is very calm regarding Viktor Gyokeres.

‘Sporting does not need to sell him, but we remain sensitive to the dreams of Viktor and any of our athletes.

‘After weeks of meetings, we are not asking for the release clause and will be reasonable regarding the price we ask for Viktor. Today, I believe there is a strong probability he will leave. We have been watching the market and I saw [Martin] Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, leave for €65million.

‘I saw Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both forwards but who, in my opinion, do not have Viktor’s market value or quality, being negotiated for around €75million.

‘Given the demands we consider fair, I believe Viktor could leave – unless he has the worst agent in the world, which is hard for me to believe, because he is one of the best footballers in the world.”

    RONALDO ARAUJO CHANCE?

Long-term Manchester United target Ronald Araujo has returned early to training under Hansi Flick, but Barcelona’s financial concerns may still force a decision on his future.

Manchester United had one of the clubs worst seasons in recent memory and were one of the worst sides in the Premier League, which means that this summer transfer window is a way to sgn players that will make a difference.

The defence was a real issue for Man United last season Ruben Amorim has a number of transfer targets that he may feel could come in and make an impact on, and off the pitch for the Red Devils.

Araujo has made over 150 appearances in all competitions for Barca since joining from Uruguayan outfit Boston River for a fee of just £1.5million back in 2017, and has firmly established himself as a regular at the heart of the club’s defence.

However, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona may consider activating Araujo’s temporary €60 million (£51m/$65m) release clause amid ongoing financial fair play pressures.

The clause is active from July 1 to July 15 and allows other clubs to sign the centre-back for that fixed amount. Araujo came back from his summer break early and is going to start training this week with Flick before the official beginning of pre-season.

    IcFootballnews View…

Ruben Amorim knows that he needs to add another world class defender to that back-line, he knows that having a solid back-line will help get the club challenging for trophies once again.

Araujo could be a great signing for Manchester United he really is world class, but he really does not want to leave Barcelona at this stage of his career, so United would be getting a player that does not actually want to be there.

As we said he would be a great signing, we just cant see this happening.

    MBEUMO PRICE SET

Brentford sporting director Phil Giles says Bryan Mbeumo would be happy to stay at the club if a deal cannot be agreed with Manchester United this summer transfer window.

Mbeumo had an amazing season last year for Brentford and firmly established himself as one of the best forwards in the Premier League, with his performces attracting interest from the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United.

    Getty

United and Brentford have held talks and the player wants the move to Old Trafford, and Sky Sports News understands Brentford want in excess of £65m for Mbeumo and United have so far offered a package rising to £62.5m.

Now Giles has exclusively told Sky Sports News that there is a deal to do only if is “right” for Brentford – he said: “There is significant interest in Bryan. It’s been well publicised about, his current preference.

“He had an unbelievable season and we expected interest in him.

“From what I understand he is, also, if needs be, happy to stay at Brentford next year as well.

“We’ve spoken to Bryan and his representatives. It’s not a given that he’s going to depart this summer.

“If we get the right offer, there is the potential for a deal to be done but there is only so much we can say now on that.”

    IcFootballnews Says…

Manchester United will be very lucky to get Mbeumo this transfer window, he is ready to make that next step in his career and a move to a massive club needs to happen.

If United really wants the player then they will need to splash the cash, it is only a couple of million more that Brentford wants, no point is losing out over a few million.

  • Man United close in on Viktor Gyokeres moves

    [ad_1]

Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly ‘furious’ with Sporting Lisbon bosses, as he is keen to make a move away from the Portuguese giants amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

Gyokeres has become one of the most in-demand strikers in world football after another season in which he broke the 50 goal barrier in all competitions, and is a player that is heavily tipped to make the move to the Premier League.

Arsenal are desperate to add to that front line after another season in which they played brilliant football, but failed to pick up any trophies that would add to the FA Cup Mikel Arteta has won since being boss of the Gunners.

Man United are also very desperate to add to that squad and are very keen to re-unite Ruben Amorim with the player that brought him so much success over in the Portuguese League, they really need a new striker at the club.

Despite links with the Premier League 12 months ago, Gyokeres remained at Sporting but it was reportedly agreed that he could leave for favourable terms this summer.

The forward is said to have made a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ with his current club at the start of last season.

One of those conditions was reportedly that Sporting would accept around £60m to relinquish him, but According to Portuguese outlet Record, Gyokeres believes Sporting have now gone back on that promise and are demanding clubs pay closer to £80 million.

    IcFootballnews says…

Gyokeres is a top striker that will surely score alot of goals for Manchester United or Arsenal, if they manage to get some sort of deal done this summer. It could be a long running issue as Sporting are demanding top money for their star player.

But if he had to make the choice, Man United are more desperate for a new striker that what Arsenal are.

Red flags everywhere: Why Man United would be playing with fire by signing wildcard Viktor Gyokeres – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Following a dismal 2024/25 campaign that saw Manchester United finish a lowly 15th place in the Premier League, having suffered 18 losses and collecting just 42 points, the club is bracing for an extremely busy transfer window in a bid to right the wrongs of the past year.

Boosting the team’s goal output appears to be the number one item on Ruben Amorim’s agenda. After announcing the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and with a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo on the brink of completion, all attention is now set to shift towards securing the services of a new and reliable striker.

United had earmarked Liam Delap as their top striker target, but the youngster opted for a move to Chelsea instead. Now, if the transfer whispers are to be trusted, Viktor Gyokeres is the next man being lined up to lead the line.

Blistering pace, brute strength, and a cannon of a right foot, Gyokeres exploded onto the global stage last season, delivering a jaw-dropping 54 goals in 52 appearances and announcing himself as one of football’s most lethal finishers. He came close to clinching the European Golden Shoe but was ultimately pipped to the prize by Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, with Liga Portugal’s lower coefficient playing a key role in the final standings.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Gyokeres is keen on a transfer to United, even without European football next season. Who needs the Champions League when you’ve got mid-table chaos and frequent existential crisis episodes?

On paper, Gyokeres ticks all the boxes – bags goals for fun, ready to make the leap to a more demanding league, numbers to die for and he even has history with Amorim from their Sporting CP days. What could possibly go wrong?

Yet, some fans have picked up on a curious detail. Despite his ridiculous numbers, there doesn’t seem to be a queue of top European clubs banging down the door for Gyokeres. Most elite sides are in the market for a headline striker, yet United somehow have a free run at him. When’s the last time that happened?

Rarely has a United transfer target divided the fanbase quite like Gyokeres. To some, he’s the ideal striker – powerful, prolific, and familiar with Amorim’s system. To others, he’s a walking red flag wrapped in a goalscoring disguise. And honestly, who can blame them? We’ve been burned so many times, the trauma’s practically built into our DNA.

In this article, I lay out the case for why United should steer clear of the Swedish frontman and set their sights elsewhere in the search for a striker.

    League gap and player adaptation

It’s no secret that Liga Portugal isn’t the strongest division in Europe, and the significant gulf in quality between it and the Premier League is a major factor fuelling the widespread concerns around Gyokeres.

Liga Portugal is considerably less competitive than the Premier League and beyond the traditional heavyweights (Sporting, Benfica and Porto), most teams lack the defensive organisation and individual quality that would truly test a top-level striker. In contrast, the Premier League is an unforgiving battleground where nearly every fixture is a dogfight and securing three points is rarely straightforward. Strikers have to fight tooth and nail for every goal. That’s the reality, and there’s no hiding from it.

A quick glance at Gyokeres’ goal catalogue will reveal a clear pattern. His trademark is exploiting large pockets of space and punishing exposed defences. That kind of room and time simply doesn’t exist in the Premier League. It would be a rare luxury in England.

Again, Gyokeres tends to thrive by making intelligent runs down the channels, which is a responsibility typically assumed by wingers in Premier League systems. While this movement causes havoc in Liga Portugal, it may be far less effective in England, where tactical discipline is tighter and roles are far more rigid. He’s not your traditional target man, and in a league that often demands one, that could be a tactical mismatch waiting to happen.

It also doesn’t help that Gyokeres isn’t particularly dominant in the air, which is an area where Premier League strikers are often expected to compete. Although to be fair, United aren’t exactly known for whipping in crosses with regularity. Still, it’s another factor that limits his versatility and could severely hinder his chances of success.

Poor track record in English football

I’m a romantic at heart and appreciate a good redemption arc as much as anyone but unfortunately, sentiment has little place in football transfers.

While Gyokeres has excelled in Portugal, it would be remiss not to factor in his past difficulties in England.

Despite a promising run at Coventry City, Gyokeres’ earlier struggles at Brighton and Hove Albion and Swansea City suggest that adapting to the pace and physicality of English football has not always come easily. That history still lingers in the conversation around a potential Premier League return.

    Bitter public feud with Sporting

If you thought United held the title for Europe’s most dramatic football soap opera, think again. Sporting have just burst through the door and snatched the crown with their latest Gyokeres theatrics.

It’s been consistently reported that despite the €100 million release clause in Gyokeres’ contract, there was a gentleman’s agreement in place between the player and Sporting, allowing for a summer exit at a reduced fee. A figure around €70 million was widely cited as the expected asking price.

The so-called “gentleman’s agreement” was born out of Gyokeres’ loyalty to Sporting. The 27-year-old turned down interest from elsewhere both last summer and during the January window, choosing instead to stay and help supercharge their title challenge. That show of commitment was said to have earned him a promise that the club wouldn’t stand in his way this summer.

In completely shocking news (read: not shocking at all), Sporting have seemingly backpedalled on their word and have filed that gentleman’s agreement under “fiction.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the club’s president – Frederico Varandas – dramatically cut short his holiday to deliver an explosive address to the media, where he accused Gyokeres’ camp of resorting to “threats, blackmail and insults” in an effort to engineer an exit.

A fuming Varandas made it crystal clear that under no circumstances will Gyokeres leave for a €70m financial package. Sporting want more than that and they are determined to get it.

Normally, this kind of chaos has United’s name written all over it – dramatic twists, public spats, and wildly inflated fees. It’s the kind of transfer fiasco that practically writes its own headlines. It’s basically United’s tradition since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

But Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS seem determined to break the old United habit, opting instead to operate with precision, silence and speed in the market. They’re unlikely to want any part in the Gyokeres saga, and for good measure, especially if Sporting continue to cling to their sky-high valuation of the player.

There are alternative striker options available who would come at a lower cost, present fewer associated risks, and involve far less off-field distraction or negotiation complications.

But you don’t have to take my word for it when it comes to Gyokeres. Just ask six-time Premier League winner and legendary United defender Rio Ferdinand, who, by all indications, seems to be on the same wavelength.

Asked whether Gyokeres is the right fit for United, Ferdinand didn’t mince his words as he answered, “I don’t think he’s the guy. I’ve not watched him loads [but] I’ve watched him probably three times really, really closely.”

“And three times I’ve gone, ‘He ain’t getting that opportunity in the Prem’. When I see him physically matched, what else is there?”

“Is there enough – after he’s physically matched – to get him a goal?”

Allow me a moment of shamelessness to throw in the views of former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott as well. Lescott noted, “You don’t get away with that in the Prem.”

Man United keen on Viktor Gyokeres

    [ad_1]

Manchester United have made an initial approach to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to Sky Sports. The Swedish international is emerging as a key target in United’s bid to bolster their attack after a dismal 2024/25 season.

With Liam Delap choosing Chelsea over United, the Red Devils have turned their attention to Gyokeres, one of Europe’s most prolific forwards. The 27-year-old scored a sensational 54 goals and contributed 13 assists in just 52 appearances last season, becoming a standout performer under Ruben Amorim’s management at Sporting.

United are believed to be exploring the terms of a potential deal through intermediaries. Although Gyokeres has an £84 million release clause, a gentleman’s agreement could see him leave for around £58 million.

The Swede had previously indicated he would only move to a Champions League club, but with Arsenal prioritising Benjamin Sesko instead, and interest from other top-tier clubs cooling, Gyokeres may reconsider his stance—especially with the opportunity to reunite with Amorim, who has been instrumental in his rise.

With United finishing a disappointing 15th in the league and scoring struggles evident—Hojlund and Zirkzee netting just 7 goals between them—the club is in desperate need of a clinical frontman. Gyokeres could be the game-changer they need to spark a new era at Old Trafford.

United have already secured Matheus Cunha and are negotiating with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, hinting at a significant overhaul in attack.

Data suggests that Man United target Viktor Gyokeres would score only 15 Premier League goals – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Data analysis has shown that Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres would likely only score 15 goals in the Premier League were he to move this summer.

The Red Devils were incredibly wasteful in attack last season and have already agreed a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha.

In addition, the club have made their first bid and are in active negotiations for Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo.

Nonetheless, head coach Ruben Amorim is said to have given up on starting striker Rasmus Hojlund and is desperate to land his former forward at Sporting CP, Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swede has been on fire this season, scoring 54 goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions.

The Telegraph have reported though that any potential suitors in England could expect Gyokeres’ production to slow down massively due to other players’ performances who have arrived from Portugal.

The report suggests that “Viktor Gyokeres is scoring goals for fun for Sporting Lisbon but history suggests attackers from the Primeira Liga do not fare so well in the Premier League.”

The research “analysed the 15 most expensive attacking Premier League signings from Portugal, France, Germany, Italy and Spain over the past 15 years”, in order to determine who carried the best goalscoring form over to England. The player’s goal-per-game ratio in their final season abroad was compared with “their subsequent goals-per-game record in England.”

The paper warns that none of the signings from Portugal have been able to match their output in England. Generally speaking, in the case of United and most Premier League clubs, players from the Primeira Liga do tend to adapt quite well in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, their production still significantly drops. This can be witnessed in the fact that Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, Evanilson, Fabio Vieira and United’s own Bruno Fernandes, have seen a decrease in the volume of goals they score in England.

The report adds, “even the likes of Díaz and Fernandes, who have unquestionably been successful signings, have been unable to maintain the goalscoring rate they showed in their final campaigns in Portugal.”

In fact, data highlights that players face a 62 per cent decline in goalscoring when they move from Portugal to England.

This stands to reason owing to the fact that the Premier League is objectively a tougher and higher quality league than the Portuguese equivalent.

The Telegraph claim, “these players averaged 0.41 goals per game in their last seasons in Portugal, and have subsequently produced an average of 0.15 goals per game in England.”

In fact, out of the 15 players analysed, only Raúl Jiménez scored at a faster rate in England than in Portugal.

Nonetheless, it must be said that none of the players scored at the colossal rate that Gyokeres has in Portugal. It is natural that he would be unlikely to be able to replicate his 39 goals in Portugal in the Premier League but even 20 would be a massive upgrade on the four that Hojlund managed last term.

What’s more, the Swede has already experienced significant game time in England owing to his experience with Coventry City in the past.

Finally, while the results are interesting, it also has to be mentioned that every player is unique and arrives in different circumstances. A hypothetical move to Old Trafford for Gyokeres would see him arrive at a team playing in a formation he is incredibly comfortable in and also with a manager who has got the very best out of him previously.

  • Sporting CP reject Arsenal’s €70 million offer for Man United target Viktor Gyokeres – Man United News And Transfer News

Sporting CP reject Arsenal’s €70 million offer for Man United target Viktor Gyokeres – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres after Sporting CP rejected a €70 million offer from Arsenal for the 26-year-old striker, according to a report from Portugal.

The two Premier League rivals are on the hunt for a new number nine this summer with Gyokeres rated highly by the recruitment departments at both the Emirates and Old Trafford, with good reason.

The Swedish international has scored an impressive 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting this season, providing a further 13 assists as well. He has almost single-handedly launched the Lisbon side to an impressive domestic double with Sporting beating out local rivals Benfica to win both Liga Portugal and the Taça de Portugal.

The previous season, Gyokeres scored 43 goals with 15 assists while Sporting won the league again, under Ruben Amorim’s stewardship. This brings the Swede’s total returns since arriving in the Portuguese capital to 97 goals and 28 assists in just 102 games – a truly staggering amount.

It’s evident, therefore, why Amorim is keen to reunite with his former pupil at Old Trafford after enduring a dismal season with the Red Devils since swapping Lisbon for Manchester to replace Erik ten Hag in November.

United’s attack was appalling this season with only four sides in the Premier League scoring fewer goals than the Reds – Everton and the three relegated teams, Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton. It’s little wonder why United finished in 15th with the front half of the team performing at a relegation candidate level.

A new striker is considered an urgent priority by Old Trafford executives with the club identifying Liam Delap as their “first-choice” option given the Ipswich forward’s £30 million relegation clause at Portman Road.

However, despite entering “face-to-face talks” with the 22-year-old, Delap rejected United’s advances in favour of joining Chelsea. But Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reveals Gyokeres has always been the “dream” target for United, suggesting a move for Delap was predicated on price rather than priority.

Romano contends Gyokeres will be allowed to leave Lisbon if Sporting receive a proposal worth around £55 million – a considerable escalation on Delap’s fee, but a significant escalation in player quality as well.

Arsenal have joined United in identifying Gyokeres as a target this summer as they seek to provide Mikel Arteta with a proper goal-scorer up front after the inconsistent performances of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

And according to Correio da Manhã, a Portuguese newspaper, the Gunners have seen a €70 million bid (£59m) for Gyokeres rejected by Sporting, indicating Romano’s assessment was incorrect.

“Sporting have rejected a €70 million offer from Arsenal to sign top scorer Viktor Gyokeres, Correio da Manhã has learned. The Swede’s agent has been in Lisbon since last week and has already met with Sporting officials. He presented a proposal from the Gunners that the Lions ended up rejecting.

“The thing is that Sporting, despite publicly saying that it has not received any contact from the Swede, wants to profit more from its main asset. Arsenal does not seem to be very willing to increase the proposal presented and has reportedly informed the club led by Frederico Varandas that it “will not enter auctions” for the top scorer in Portugal in the last two seasons.”

The fact that Arsenal appear unwilling to “increase the[ir] proposal” could provide United with a window of opportunity to lay down the requisite amount to secure their “dream” target.

The Reds’ budget is limited this summer, due to the constrained financial situation at Old Trafford, but if the club could expedite the sale of a player like Alejandro Garnacho, whose sale would constitute ‘pure profit’ from a PSR perspective due to his academy status, this may provide enough wiggle room to launch a blockbuster raid for Gyokeres.

  • Chelsea news: Fernandes – Gyokeres

    [ad_1]

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews that we think you may have missed featuring the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Enzo Fernandez and Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has dismissed reports that Enzo Fernandez could join Real Madrid this summer, despite all the speculation and rumours surrounding the £106 million signing.

Ever since the Blues broke some records to sign Fernandez just a few seasons ago, there has been constant speculation and rumours about whether or not the Blues would cash in as the Argentine has not lived upto all the hype surrounding his name.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu by reports in Spain and Argentina, and it was reported that Chelsea may actually be interested in getting a deal done over the next few months, but that does not seem to be the case.

The Chelsea head coach has opened up and dismissed the reports that Fernandez could leave Stamford Bridge he said: “He’s a main player for us. He’s one of the captains, the leaders and he’s been very good.

“He can be even better next season, starting from the first day.

“Nothing to say about speculation. He’s focused on us and this is the most important thing.”

When asked if Fernandez is staying, Maresca said: “Yes.”

Iomie Stanley told icfootballnews: ‘Fernandez may not be the most exciting player to watch, he may not score many goals or create alot of chances, but he suits the style of Maresca and it is easy to see just why the Italian does not want to sell the midfielder.

‘There will probably be a few fans out there that would be hoping Madrid comes in, offers £100 million so that the club can bring in that creative midfielder to hep out Cole Palmer, the attacker has not been his brilliant self this season and he needs help.

‘The summer should see some Chelsea signings, probably a bunch of youngsters for the future, but if the Blues really want to challenge Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool next ‘seasons, they need to add some proven top level players and youngsters.

‘It will be interesting to see just who Maresca gets this summer for Chelsea that is for sure.’

    VICTOR OSIMHEN CLAIM MADE..

The likes of Arsenal and CHELSEA have been told signing £64m star Victor Osimhen would ‘almost guarantee’ them the Premier League title, as rumours start that he could finally come to the Premier League.

Despite Chelsea and Arsenal claiming Champions League football this season, there has been alot of speculation that both clubs need to delve into that transfer kitty and add a striker that has the ability to score 20, 30 or even 40 goals a season.

The 26-year-old has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe this season, netting 36 goals in 40 appearances to help Galatasaray win the Turkish league title. Before leaving Napoli, Osimhen scored 76 goals in 133 games for the Italian club, starring in their Serie A title win in 2022-23.

Now amid the round of latest transfer speculation, Osimhen would ‘almost guarantee’ both clubs the Premier League trophy, according to Nigeria assistant manager Daniel Ogunmodede.

‘In my opinion, Victor Osimhen is currently the best number nine in the world,’ Nigeria coach Ogunmodede told SportsBoom.

‘There are many top strikers in Europe, but no one brings what Victor does to the pitch.

‘Any team that signs him is almost guaranteed to win the league title. He’s that influential.

‘I’m excited about Victor Osimhen’s achievements in Turkey. Considering what happened [in the transfer market] last summer, making that move was a bold decision, but he’s handled it brilliantly.

‘Osimhen deserves all the success he’s getting. He’s hardworking, disciplined, and fully committed.’

    icfootballnews View…

Osimhen is world class, Osimhen is a man that can score goals, but he is also a player that goes where the money is and that is why he is not playing in the Premier League already.

There will be alot of speculation and rumours, but at the end of the day, CHELSEA and Arsenal will not want to meet his massive £350k-a-week wages that he wanted last summer, so may a move to Saudi Arabia will probably be where he ends up.

Chelsea are not so desperate for a striker, but Arsenal need someone like Osimhen that is for sure.

    GYOKERES STATEMENT MADE..

Sporting CP vice-president Francisco Salgado Zenha has opened up on Viktor Gyokeres’ future amid strong interest from the likes of CHELSEA, Arsenal and Manchester United, who are all interested in adding to their squad this summer.

After a dream outing with Sporting CP in the 2024-25 campaign, where Gyokeres scored 54 goals across all competitions and won two domestic trophies, including the Liga Portugal title, the Swedish striker has attracted interest from several clubs, including the trio of Premier League giants.

There has even been some reports in the media which have claimed that offers have been made for Gyokeres, although no clubs was properly mentioned, Sporting CP vice-president, however, denied receiving any formal offer as he revealed the club’s stance on their star striker’s future.

The club chief told reporters: “He has three more years on his contract. At the moment, there are no offers, he has three more years on his contract. I think the answer has been given. [Sporting’s transfer plans] won’t be any different from last year.

‘We want to keep the best players and retain talent. We want to continue to be champions, have competitive teams and fight on all fronts.

“I have been in this role for seven years. In the years when Sporting were champions, we even made fewer sales than in other years … the fact that we are champions gives us a greater ability to retain players and talent.

‘Coincidence or not, we have not had to sell any players in those times. Not that we have not received offers, but the market is not under our control, we are always dependent.”

Reporter Iomie Stanley told icfootballnews: ‘Gyokeres is surely leaving Sporting Lisbon this summer, he is ready to make that big step and play in one of the big leagues.

‘He will have a few options, Arsenal would obviously be the choice many would like him to make as they are crying out for striker, CHELSEA have many options but Gyokeres would be an upgrade, while Man United need quality.

‘so it will be interesting to see just what the player does.

Teammate of Man United target Viktor Gyokeres drops huge hint on Swede’s future this summer – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres is a man in demand this summer and his teammate has offered a revealing insight into the Swede’s future in Lisbon.

The Sporting CP striker, who has scored 98 goals and provided 28 assists in two seasons for Leões, is being chased by Europe’s elite with a £55 million price tag reported to be sufficient to secure his signing.

Arsenal are believed to be at the front of the queue for Gyokeres with new sporting director Andre Berta a huge fan of the 26-year-old.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed the Gunners have submitted a “monster contract” to the Swedish international and will table an official bid to Sporting after next weekend’s Taça de Portugal final.

However, United are refusing to give up on the prospect of reuniting head coach Ruben Amorim with his former pupil as a new number nine is considered an urgent priority at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are believed to be preparing an offer to sign Gyokeres to provide a massive upgrade on the striking duo of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Sporting confirmed themselves as champions of Portugal this weekend with a 2-0 win over Vitória S.C. to finish one point clear of local rival Benfica with goals from Gyokeres and Pedro Goncalves.

It constitutes back-to-back titles for the club after Amorim helped Sporting win last year’s championship.

In the midst of the celebrations, Goncalves – Sporting’s 26-year-old attacking midfielder, himself linked with a move to United – dropped a telling remark over Gyokeres’ future in Lisbon.

Speaking from the open-top bus, Goncalves told fans: “I just want to tell you all something… They said we were never going to be champions without fans (during Covid), they said we were never going to be two-time champions without [Ruben] Amorim, they said we were never going to win the league without [Hugo] Viana.

“They say we won’t be three-time champions without Viktor [Gyokeres]. And now, what I want to say is that, we’ll see.”

This confirms that even the Sporting dressing room are expecting their star striker to depart this summer. It just remains to be seen whether United can successfully position themselves at the front of the growing queue for the lethal Swede.
