Ruben Amorim has three games to save Manchester United job – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is sitting uncomfortably on the hot seat at Old Trafford at the moment.

The Portuguese was appointed by INEOS as Erik ten Hag’s replacement last November following an impressive run with Sporting. Unfortunately, he has failed to replicate that form at the Theatre of Dreams.

Amorim registered a 71% win ratio with the Portuguese club, winning 164 of his 231 games in charge. But at United, he has managed just 17 wins from 47 games so far, including a run of one win from five games this season.

That includes the dismal 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City last weekend, which has seen his win percentage with the club drop to an alarming 36.17%.

Patience yet to bear fruit

United convinced Amorim to take charge in the middle of last season, and were considerate of his poor record at the end of the campaign. The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.

INEOS invested over £200m in shiny new signings for their Portuguese head coach, hoping that a full pre-season could help his cause. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case.

The Premier League giants have lost three of their opening five games this season, scoring six goals and conceding nine. They are 14th in the league table, with just four points in four games, and were knocked out of the EFL Cup by League Two minnows Grimsby Town.

Recent reports have suggested that INEOS are still backing Amorim, and that he will be afforded until the end of the season to turn things around. Interestingly, Erik ten Hag was also given similar assurances and was sacked after nine games last season.

A massive decision ahead

According to journalist David McDonnell, writing for The Mirror, Amorim will only be afforded three games to get his act together.

The defeat against Manchester City and the poor start to the season haven’t been taken lightly by the club hierarchy.

United face Chelsea next at Old Trafford on September 20, before travelling to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Brentford later this month. Their final game before October’s international break is against newly promoted Sunderland at the Theatre of Dreams, which, interestingly, is the eighth game of the league season.

By then, the Portuguese’s fate could be sealed, with the Premier League giants already shortlisting five candidates for the job.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been named as a possible option to replace Amorim at Old Trafford. Other names in the running are Fulham’s Marco Silva, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, former England head coach Gareth Southgate, and USMNT boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Red Devils face Liverpool after the international break, and unless the Portuguese oversees an immediate change of fortunes, he may not be in charge at Anfield.

Interestingly, former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also available after parting ways with Besiktas last month.

He said: “Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been the toughest I’ve ever faced in my life. There were days when I thought ‘I’ve got him’ and the next day he’d [Klopp] destroy me again. He was the toughest by far. Because of his way of playing, his transitions, because he was very direct, because he attacked with a lot of players. The inside midfielders are usually support players, but Klopp’s midfielders were about attacking space.

“So, he’d force the full-backs to close down a lot, then he’d open you up on the outside with his full-backs. They continually sprinted inside. Firmino would drop back. Salah and Mane’s runs behind him were unstoppable. It was very, very difficult to counteract.

“I give a lot of credit to what we’ve done these years to the incredible quality of the opponent we’ve had to face. Those three or four league titles we won against Klopp are the greatest success we’ve achieved. There hasn’t been a tougher opponent I’ve ever faced.”

Klopp’s Liverpool only managed to get their hands on the Premier League trophy once, but there’s no doubt at all that they pushed Man City to the brink on a number of occasions and they often seemed to have Guardiola’s number on the pitch.

Manchester United have raised quite a few eyebrows this summer by their transfer business.

United finished 15th in the Premier League last season, failing to qualify for European football. Considering their financial predicament, the Red Devils were expected to have a quiet transfer window, as far as incomings were concerned.

Brighton are also seemingly not ready for the 21-year-old’s transfer this summer. As per multiple reports, the Seagulls want to keep the ex-Lille sensation at the Amex for at least one more season.

However, United view him as their dream midfield target, and continue to work behind the scenes.

The Mancunians are trying to make a move before any bidding wars begin. Liverpool have interest in the dynamic midfielder as well.

Man City agree deal with Man United target

Meanwhile, City are pushing ahead with their pursuit of Gianluigi Donnarumma.

United are also believed to be interested in the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, who is destined to exit the French capital.

However, the Sky Blues appear to be in the pole position, having reportedly agreed personal terms with the Italian.

This week, reports have surfaced linking the 21-year-old with a potential switch to Chelsea, one of United’s Premier League rivals.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein wrote: “Chelsea have stepped up talks with Manchester United over deal to sign Alejandro Garnacho. Clubs in touch on topic for some time & now advancing amid Benjamin Sesko joining #MUFC. 21yo winger wants #CFC or nothing + expects move to happen.”

In the past, Alejandro Garnacho attracted attention from clubs such as Napoli, Aston Villa, and Atletico Madrid.

Now, with Chelsea said to be intensifying their pursuit of the Argentine talent, comments made by Ten Hag in 2023 have come back into the spotlight.

Back then, Garnacho had recently signed a new contract with United, prompting Ten Hag to caution that increased expectations would naturally follow.

“For Alejandro, he is that step beyond but now the demands will be even more because he has now to compete for a starting XI position. So, every time is the same: you have to cross limits and every time you have to go in the next level. We go with him in that challenge but most important is the player has to do it.”

During the 24/25 campaign, Garnacho managed 11 goals and 10 assists in 58 games across all competitions for Man United.

Ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen are set to face Chelsea on Friday at Stamford Bridge.

According to The Guardian, negotiations have stalled as Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reluctant to meet Brentford’s revised £70 million valuation for the player.

Chelsea announce Mathis Amougou has joined Stasbourg

Mathis Amougou has left CHELSEA and completed a permanent transfer to Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg, the Blues have now announced on the club website as they decided to let the lad leave the club.

The Blues posted on the club website: ‘The France Under-20 international joined the Blues from Saint-Etienne in January and made his Premier League debut against Southampton the following month.

‘Amougou featured in our Conference League campaign and was part of the matchday squad for our triumph over Real Betis in the final in Wroclaw.

‘We wish Mathis every success as he begins a new chapter in his career.’

He will hope to fill the hole in the Strasbourg midfield left by Andrey Santos – who has returned from his loan to Chelsea – and Habib Diarra, who has made a big money move to Sunderland.

An official fee has now been announced, but it is suspected it will be almost exactly the same as the £12.5m we paid for Amougou 6 months ago.

Chelsea have a number of talented players that either have to leave the club or get used to be sent out on loan all over Europe in order to get some game time and a chance at a professional career.

Mathis Amougou will certainly be very happy about this move as he will hopefully get more of a chance than he has been at Chelsea, it is the best thing for the lad to do and the right thing for CHELSEA to let him leave.

So even though the lad would have loved to try and become a Chelsea player, this is the right move to make and one that will hopefully reignite his footballing career.

“In my opinion, those who stand out and win the Champions League should win. But there is no consensus. I don’t believe much in individual awards because I know what goes on behind the scenes. Lamine could win, like Dembele or Vitinha, other emerging players… But individual awards are irrelevant.”

Dembele is the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or, with odds of 2/7 with Bet365. Yamal is behind with odds of 3/1, just ahead of Vitinha at 8/1.

Brandon Williams’ career has not gone as he would have envisioned when he first broke through at Manchester United back in the 2019/20 season.

Under the guidance of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the 24-year-old made 50 appearances out of his 51 in a red shirt.

But off-field problems have threatened to derail his nascent career, with the defender without a club since leaving his boyhood club in the summer of 2024.

His last competitive appearance came back in December 2023 for loan outfit Ipswich Town, but that could all change if The Daily Mail are to be believed.

Solskjaer offering Brandon Williams a lifeline

Solskjaer, who is currently in charge of Besiktas, is ready to offer a lifeline to the former Carrington graduate.

Talks have taken place over a move to Turkey which would see the pair reunite after two seasons together in Manchester.

“Former Manchester United full back Brandon Williams is an option for Ole Gunner Solskjaer at Besiktas.

“Williams has stated his intention to restart his football career after he was handed a two-year suspended jail sentence for dangerous driving back in May.

Talks have taken place

“The 24-year-old, who also played for Norwich City and Ipswich Town, earned his big break under Solskjaer at United and initial talks have taken place over a potential move to Turkey.”

The former England U21 international can play as a right-back or left-back, and has one goal and two assists to his name from his time in Manchester.

Hopefully, the Englishman can put his troubles behind him and restart his career in earnest, and what better way than to play under the manager who gave him his first break in senior football.

Staying away from the spotlight in England and from harmful elements could do him a world of good and finally allow him to focus on his game.

“I am told…“: Fabrizio Romano explains exactly what he has heard about Monaco and Andre Onana

Surprising news dropped earlier today that Ligue 1 side Monaco has expressed interest in a deal for Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana.

It is widely established that the Cameroonian was a huge disappointment last season, as the goalie committed high-profile errors in both the Premier League and Europa League.

And Ruben Amorim is open to his departure, with INEOS offering the 29-year-old to clubs in the Saudi Pro League, but apart from interest from Neom SC, where Onana does not want to go, there have been no concrete proposals.

Which is why the United No.1 seemed confident of staying and starting between the sticks in the new season before Monaco’s interest came to light.

Andre Onana to Monaco not on

But Fabrizio Romano has revealed otherwise, claiming on his YouTube channel that the French side are not in active talks with the Cameroon international.

They do want a new goalkeeper but as things stand, Andre Onana is not the name they are seeking.

The Italian also claimed that should the former Inter Milan ace leave, the Red Devils would prefer a move for Aston Villa’s World Cup-winning goalie Emiliano Martinez.

The Argentine is open to the switch despite the 20-time English league champions not being in any European competition next season.

“I am told that Monaco are not in active talks to sign Andre Onana, despite what other reports have suggested. Monaco are looking to sign a keeper but they have not made any approach for Onana.

Martinez remains a target should Onana leave

“If Onana leaves for Saudi or other destinations, then United will try and sign a keeper and they really like Emiliano Martinez who is open to a move even without Champions League football.

“But it all depends on Onana, who is happy at Manchester United and is open to staying.”

Until Onana’s future is cleared up, a move for the Villa shot-stopper is unlikely, while his price is also a major hindrance.

Other options like Marco Carnesecchi and Diogo Costa are also on the table, and it will be interesting to see if INEOS strengthen in goal this summer.
