‘It’s a great feeling,’ Palmer said after Chelsea’s Club World Cup victory. ‘Even better because everyone doubted us before the game, we knew that.

‘The gaffer put a great gameplan out. He knew where the space was going to be. He tried to free me up as much as possible and I just had to repay him and score some goals.

‘[Maresca] is building something special, something important. Everyone has talked a lot of s*** about us all season but I feel like we are going in the right direction.’

Maresca, meanwhile, said: ‘I have no words for the players. They all deserve this and it’s a good moment.

‘For me, we won the game in the first 10 minutes. We set the tempo and we were very good at pressing them. The conditions made it hard to keep going but the boys did well.

‘I am very excited [about the future] but I’m more excited that we have three weeks off.’

Joao Pedro tipped to make Chelsea impact

Former Blues star Frank Sinclair has opened up and claimed 23-year-old Joao Pedro can kick on and fill a gap in Enzo Maresca’s side after completing his big money move to CHELSEA this week.

The Blues have swooped to add another option to their front line with the Brazil international signing a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge. Newcastle United were also eager to sign the 23-year-old with Pedro preferring a move to London.

Liam Delap arrived at the start of the transfer window from Ipswich Town along with Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg. Dario Essugo has also arrived from Sporting CP after a deal was struck in March with Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian will join up with his new teammates after the Club World Cup.

Chelsea have agreed a deal worth £55m with £5m in add-ons with Brighton with Pedro departing after two seasons at the AMEX, and Sinclair has opened up and welcomed the new signing to the club.

‘I feel like he’s a player who will bring a lot of aggressiveness to Chelsea which I think they’ve missed in the front line,’ Sinclair told Metro via Kasinoseta.com.

‘Nicolas Jackson has done it, but it’s not his game and there’s an obvious place on the left wing where he can play and give the team balance, as he’s right-footed.

‘I think there will be different formations for different games, though. When they are playing teams where they feel they can control the midfield a lot easier, they might play Palmer as a No10.

‘But there might be times when they want three more combative midfielders, and then Palmer can go out to that right side.

‘But I see Joao Pedro being the one who plays on that left side – he brings pace, he scores goals, and it still allows for Jackson and Delap to have that competition for the striker role.’

Before his time at Brighton, Pedro wore No. 10 at Watford, where he became a fan favorite. Unfortunately for him, that number is also taken—Cole Palmer now wears the No. 10 shirt following a recent squad reshuffle.

Pedro’s first number at Watford, No. 17, is currently held by fellow Brazilian Andrey Santos, and No. 23, which he wore as a teenager at Fluminense, belongs to Trevoh Chalobah.

However, Chalobah has been linked with a move away from the club, which could open up that number in the near future.
