Liverpool could be set for a major shake-up at right-back — and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is emerging as a top target.
Trent Exit Sparks Urgent Search
With Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly rejecting a new contract, a summer exit on a free transfer to Real Madrid looks inevitable. That leaves a gaping hole in Liverpool’s defence — and a huge creative void to fill.
Frimpong on Liverpool’s Radar
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are seriously considering a move for the dynamic Dutchman. The 24-year-old has been a key figure in Xabi Alonso’s high-flying Leverkusen side, operating mainly as a right wing-back.
His stats are eye-catching: four goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances, showcasing his ability to bomb forward and deliver in the final third. But it’s not just about flair — Frimpong’s recovery speed and ability in duels make him a well-rounded option for the Reds.
Bargain Buy?
What makes this deal even more tempting? A release clause of just £30 million. For a player in his prime with proven Bundesliga pedigree, it feels like a steal.
If Liverpool want to move swiftly and decisively, Frimpong could be the perfect heir to Trent’s throne at Anfield.

The 22-year-old now has his sights set on becoming Chelsea’s all-time leading Premier League goalscorer. His tally of 37 top-flight goals has propelled him into 10th place in the club’s history, drawing level with Brazilian winger Willian.
Despite joining the Blues from Manchester City just two summers ago, Palmer continues to show why Pep Guardiola’s decision to sell him may have been a misjudgment.
With his career still in its early stages, supporters will hope he remains a prolific force for years to come, having signed a nine-year contract in August 2024 that could keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
Palmer’s milestone has come in just 67 appearances, boasting the best minutes-per-goal ratio of any player in Chelsea’s top 10, averaging a goal every 150 minutes.
For perspective, former striker Nicolas Anelka took 125 matches to reach 68 goals, and Palmer is poised to surpass the Frenchman soon.
His £42.5m signing in the summer of 2023 generated plenty of excitement, but few anticipated he would become such a prolific scorer.
Under Mauricio Pochettino, he quickly took on a talismanic role for Chelsea, netting 22 goals in 34 league matches during the 2023-24 campaign.
Palmer struggled to break into Guardiola’s first team at Manchester City and did not score a single Premier League goal at the Etihad.
His second season in London has been a mix of ups and downs, with less reliance on him under Enzo Maresca’s management.
Palmer started the campaign in excellent form, striking 14 times in 21 appearances, but his momentum slowed after mid-January, leading to a frustrating three-month goal drought.
However, his performance against Liverpool signaled his return to form, with his penalty taking his total to 15 goals in 34 games.
Chelsea’s official media account shared the club’s all-time Premier League top scorers list, offering an intriguing insight into their history.
The rankings emphasized Frank Lampard’s remarkable scoring ability as a midfielder, while also highlighting Chelsea’s shortage of consistent goal-scorers—evidenced by John Terry occupying eighth place.
Rival fans were quick to mock the achievement, pointing to examples of past players from their own clubs who would have comfortably made Chelsea’s top 10.
One supporter highlighted how low Palmer would feature in Arsenal’s: “37 Goals at Arsenal will have you at Number 62 behind (Eddie Nketiah).”
Another similarly pointed out: “Theo Walcott 108 is the 10th all-time PL goal scorer at Arsenal, he has more goals than (Didier) Drogba that is second on this list.”
One fan poked fun at Chelsea: “37 goals gets you into the top 10 of a supposed big club’s all-time top scorers list.”
As did another: “Top 10 in the all-time scorers after two seasons is the most tinpot thing I’ve ever seen.”
Another said: “£7.9 billion spent on strikers and John Terry’s in our top 10.”
While others saw reasons to be optimistic regarding the legacy Palmer can achieve at the club. One fan wrote: “He’s going to retire as a legend here.”
Another said: “Cole is just 2 seasons in at Chelsea and he’s already in this conversation.”
Chelsea are in the race for Champions League qualification, and the win against Liverpool has them sitting fifth with 63 points, three above Nottingham Forest, who face Crystal Palace on Monday.
Journalist Simon Phillips reported on his Substack that both Liverpool and Manchester City have been keeping a close watch on Palmer ahead of the upcoming transfer window. ..Continue Reading
City are also said to have made an official inquiry about signing the talented Chelsea midfielder.
Palmer excelled during the first half of the campaign under new manager Enzo Maresca, netting 13 goals and registering six assists before the turn of the year.
However, his form has dipped in 2025, managing just one goal—a strike in a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on January 14—sparking concerns about how he fits into Maresca’s tactical approach.
In The Telegraph, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher weighed in on Palmer’s future, discussing the potential of a move to Anfield, even though such a transfer remains unlikely.
He said: “It surprises me that no-one has argued that Palmer should be on the new champions’ radar.
“Far-fetched? Too expensive? Most likely. Liverpool ‘going big’ for footballers who are already established on mammoth and long contracts elsewhere is not their strategy.”
In addition to Carragher’s observations, Palmer is still bound to Chelsea for the next eight years, following the record-breaking nine-year contract he signed last summer.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old has already expressed his thoughts on the newly crowned Premier League champions.
Speaking in October ahead of the Premier League game between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield, which the Reds went on to win 2-1, Palmer told club media: “I just remember the Anfield crowd from our last game there.
“They had a great team then, and they’ve got a great team now, so it will be a difficult game if we’re not 100 per cent on it.
“As a boy from Manchester, you’re aware of the relationship between both cities. It’s a bit of a rivalry. Everyone knows what their stadium is like, what their fans are like and what their team is like.”
As Liverpool bask in the glory of their Premier League title triumph, transfer speculation is heating up — and Darwin Nunez is firmly in the spotlight. The Uruguayan striker could be heading for the Anfield exit door this summer, with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid eyeing a potential move.
Nunez Transfer Talks Begin as Liverpool Reveal Asking Price
According to Spanish outlet AS, Liverpool have set a price tag of €40m to €45m (£34m–£38m) for the 25-year-old forward. That’s a significant drop from the €75m they paid Benfica just two years ago, but reflects his mixed impact and limited starts under new boss Arne Slot.
Despite netting five goals and providing two assists in the league, Nunez found himself slipping down the pecking order this season — featuring mostly from the bench during the title run-in.
Atletico Madrid in the Lead — But Not Alone
Atletico Madrid, under Diego Simeone, are believed to be admirers of Nunez’s aggressive style and physical presence. Reports claim Simeone has been “seduced” by the striker’s attributes, with the club open to striking a deal — especially if Liverpool agree to a loan with an obligation to buy.
However, they’re not without competition. Saudi giants Al-Nassr are also monitoring the situation, although Nunez reportedly prefers to stay in Europe at this stage of his career.
What’s Next for Nunez?
Liverpool’s willingness to loan the striker — provided most of his wages are covered — opens the door for multiple suitors. With Champions League football on offer, Atletico may currently lead the race, but other European clubs could soon join the chase.
Will Darwin Nunez find his spark in La Liga, or will another twist await in his Premier League journey?

The right-back joined in the celebrations but avoided speaking to media inside the stadium. Instead, on Monday, April 28, he posted several photos of himself and his teammates on social media, captioned: “For the City. For the Fans.”
His brother, Marcell, also added to the intrigue with what some fans believe was a cryptic Instagram story.
Amid growing speculation over his future, Alexander-Arnold was seen in conversation with Liverpool’s co-owner Henry, aged 75, during the jubilant scenes.
Though the exact details remain uncertain, forensic lip reader Nicola Hickling, speaking to OLBG, suggested Henry was advising the player to make the right decision.
Henry purportedly said: “You’ve been quiet. How did you get on?”
To which Alexander-Arnold replied: “Being sensible.”
The 75-year-old added: “I want you to do the right thing.”
The England defender answered and said: “Yeah, yeah.”
Henry continued: “Best way and don’t panic.”
Trent questioned: “Should I decide?”
The American then nodded slowly and exclaimed: “Absolutely,” before he turned and said: “Let them know.”
Alexander-Arnold responded with a nod during the exchange. It’s important to note that the exact details of the conversation remain unknown.
The future of the England star’s career next season remains uncertain.
Although he recently made a strong comeback from injury, scoring a decisive goal in the 1-0 victory over Leicester, speculation continues to lean toward the possibility of the Liverpool-born player joining Real Madrid once his contract expires on June 30.
On April 24, journalist Fabrizio Romano issued an update, he said: “The situation is still exactly the same between Trent, Liverpool, and Real Madrid. The deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is at the final stages, just waiting for the final stages. Just waiting to sign the contracts, just waiting for all the documents.”
One thing is certain: with the title race and relegation battle already settled, Alexander-Arnold’s future is set to dominate discussions in English football as the season draws to a close.
Throughout the campaign, the England international has remained largely silent regarding his plans for the seasons ahead.
But, on April 20 he was directly asked if he was going to leave Liverpool by Sky Sports’ Patrick Davidson, to which the right-back said: “Look, obviously, like I’ve said all season, I am not going to speak on my situation, I am not going to go into details but these days like today are always special: scoring goals, winning games, being close to winning titles and being in title races, they are special moments that will live for me forever. I am glad to be a part of them.”

They currently sit 15 points clear of second-placed Arsenal and 21 points ahead of last season’s champions, Manchester City.
City were aiming to achieve an unprecedented fifth consecutive league title but fell short, giving rivals an opportunity to reclaim the crown.
Arsenal and Chelsea showed glimpses of a challenge, though Liverpool’s eventual success seemed inevitable for weeks, if not months.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool have suffered only two league defeats this season and look poised to accumulate over 90 points. Shearer believes Liverpool are well-placed to defend their title but anticipates much tighter competition among top teams in the coming campaign.
‘I would be amazed if Liverpool won it as easily next season,’ Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast. ‘I don’t see that happening at all.
‘There are so many teams waiting to improve, Arsenal being one, Man City being another, Newcastle and Aston Villa as well. Chelsea are another one.
‘There are so many teams that are willing and have to improve next year. If Liverpool win it next year, it won’t be as easy.’
Fellow former England striker Gary Lineker also expects a ‘tighter’ title race to unfold next campaign and has tipped Arsenal and Man City to push Liverpool much closer.
‘I would think Liverpool will challenge for the title for the next couple of seasons now,’ he said.
‘What I think will happen though is both Man City and Arsenal will put up a better fist of things and probably not have the amount of injuries they’ve had this season.
‘I think it will be a lot closer. I don’t think for one minute they can win it as easily next season but who knows.
‘I suspect Man City get back to somewhere approaching their best, I would be shocked if they had another season like this one.
‘I think Pep Guardiola will want it even more next season, if that’s possible, because that drive hasn’t gone.
‘I think the title race will be a lot tighter, it has to be. They’ve won it at a canter this year.
‘I think it will be a great season actually and hopefully a bit more competitive at both ends of the table.’
Considering Liverpool’s commanding performance in the Premier League, it’s easy to overlook the initial skepticism surrounding the team at the beginning of the season.
Many analysts questioned how the Reds would cope after the departure of Anfield icon Jurgen Klopp, who reshaped the club during his transformative nine-year tenure.
However, former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is now poised to claim the Premier League title in his debut season in England, having outclassed Liverpool’s domestic challengers.
‘It feels great,’ Slot said after Liverpool secured the Premier League title. ‘I don’t think I want to say a lot.
‘The only thing now is to send my appreciation to Jurgen Klopp. I am 99.9% sure that if I pick up my phone there will be a message from Jurgen.
‘So many moments in the season the two of us have had contact. I think he showed last season what a wonderful human being he is by introducing me.
‘But what mattered most is the team he left behind that was able to win the trophy.’
