Man United have already made their decision on Kobbie Mainoo as winter exit links persist – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Word on the street is that come the winter transfer window, Kobbie Mainoo will once again ask to leave Manchester United.

Towards the end of the summer window, Mainoo requested a loan move.

The United midfield prodigy anticipated he would not play a key role under Ruben Amorim and wanted to join a club where regular game time was guaranteed.

With this being a FIFA World Cup year, the 20-year-old’s sole focus was earning a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England Three Lions squad.

United blocked the loan request, insisting he had a key role to play. But that promise has not held up.

    From prodigy to peripheral

Behind Bruno Fernandes in the pecking order, Mainoo has struggled for minutes.

Of the 900-plus minutes United have played this season, he has featured in just 207, a frustrating return for a player once hailed as the brightest talent to emerge from the academy.

From key man to squad player, Mainoo might feel his World Cup hope is slipping away.

However, he can revive that dream if he pushes for a move in January.

    Top clubs keen

Several top clubs are already circling. Napoli are pushing hard to reunite him with Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund in Naples, while Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation closely.

As speculation builds around a potential winter exit, transfer guru Pete O’Rourke has dropped a bombshell.

    INEOS already have their answer

While Mainoo dreams of a season-defining move in January, O’Rourke, via Football Insider, reveals:

“Manchester United don’t really want to let Kobbie Mainoo leave.

“They blocked any move from Mainoo, and I would imagine they would look to do the same in January because he probably will be needed by United for this season in case there’s any injuries or anything else.

“They’ll be confident that they can keep all of them, and I don’t think they’ll be willing to let such a talented player like that leave United when they probably need all their best players to help Ruben Amorim have a successful season.”

    Tricky situation

Hopefully, things change. Hopefully, Mainoo earns his place in Amorim’s line-up between now and the winter transfer window.

Because if he continues warming the bench, United’s No.37 may have no choice but to agitate for a move.

INEOS might believe they have already mapped out how to handle the Mainoo situation this winter, but it will not be as straightforward as they think.

Imagine United still blocking that move, leaving him to stagnate on the bench; he misses the World Cup.

Mainoo may never be the same after that.

Ruben Amorim has made it clear what he expects from his Man United number one next season – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United’s goalkeeping department is set to be a major talking point this summer.

Among United’s many struggles in the 2024-25 season, poor goalkeeping stood out as a key weakness alongside their misfiring attack.

Instead of showing improvement after a shaky first season, André Onana became increasingly erratic, with clear flaws in his decision-making, positioning, and command of the penalty area.

His ball-playing skills and composure under pressure, the attributes that convinced Erik ten Hag to bring him in, ultimately proved irrelevant.

Repeated errors have cost United crucial results.

While Ruben Amorim occasionally turned to Altay Bayindir, his lack of match sharpness after months on the bench meant he too failed to convince.

Amorim’s requirements for a new number one

United are expected to move for a top-class shot-stopper this summer.

Bayindir is set to be sold, and reports, combined with his absence from the squad on the final day of the season, suggest Onana’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain.

According to Give Me Sport, Amorim has outlined his vision for a first-choice goalkeeper to the club’s recruitment team.

The former Sporting CP manager is prepared to move away from the modern preference for ball-playing goalkeepers and revert to traditional goalkeeping fundamentals.

Rather than seeking a contemporary goalkeeper, Amorim wants a dependable presence between the posts.

He is looking for someone strong in core attributes such as shot stopping, handling, and error minimisation.

This new custodian must bring calmness and stability to United’s backline, providing assurance and reducing the defensive uncertainty that has plagued the team in recent seasons.

    Onana’s future in doubt

The profile Amorim is looking for in his number one is precisely what Onana has failed to deliver.

The Give Me Sport report suggests that United are keen to sell Onana, but they highlight that offloading the £47 million signing from 2023 will not be straightforward.

His transfer fee, wages, and reputation complicate the prospect of an easy exit.

That said, INEOS are considering cashing in on him. If they cannot secure a sale, they are expected to bring in a capable replacement for Bayindir, who is set to depart.

This new addition would provide serious competition for Onana, ensuring that United’s goalkeeping struggles are firmly left behind.

  • Ian Wright pleased Arsenal made Ollie Watkins move

    [ad_1]

Ian Wright says he was ‘pleased’ ARSENAL at least made an attempt to sign Ollie Watkins this winter, as the Gunners made a last minute move to sign the Aston Villa star on deadline day.

Fans have been calling for the Gunners to strengthen in the final third in recent weeks, especially after injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. But Arsenal were unable to bring in any players in the final days of the window, and Mikel Arteta has admitted he is unhappy with his lack of options up front.

The likes of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Dusan Vlahovic and Yoane Wissa were all linked in recent weeks, as well as Ollie Watkins and Alexander Isak, but Wright believes it was ‘always going to be tough’ for Arsenal to bring in the calibre of player they desired.

‘It was always going to be tough for us. Isak wasn’t even an option,’ the legendary ex-Arsenal striker said on the Wrighty’s House podcast.

‘When we’re talking about strikers, it’s a gamble and I don’t care who you are. Darwin Nunez, Rasmus Hojlund… Isak went for £63m, he’s the only one in recent times that I’m looking at as a striker who has probably doubled his money.

‘You look at Nicolas Jackson. For £32m, I’m happy with that. But when you start getting past £50m, you have to start thinking that it’s a pure gamble.

‘They’re hoping that it works and I don’t think Arsenal can afford to do that. That’s probably why they went for a 29-year-old in Ollie Watkins or Villa tried to get him to come to us, whatever it was.

‘As a club, I don’t think we can afford to take the chance on those kind of signings hitting or missing. It has to hit with Arsenal and this is why it’s so tough.

‘I’ve always thought it was so difficult to get somebody in January. Who is going to leave at that stage who is the calibre of player you want? We’re going to have to see something in the summer.’

    Reporter Iomie Stanley says…

ARSENAL f****d up by not signing a new striker in the January window, they had the whole month to make moves, they could have got Jhon Duran for just £54 million if they made an offer, but now, they waited until deadline day to make moves.

‘If Arsenal wants to win that title, they need a striker, someone that can score 30 goals a season, they have players that can create chances, but Kai Havertz is not good enough and it could cost them come the end of the season.’
