Casemiro hails “soldier” Lisandro Martinez as star nears full fitness – Man United News And Transfer News

Ruben Amorim is preparing to welcome Lisandro Martinez back into his squad with the Argentinian defender nearing a return from long-term injury.

The 27-year-old has been out of action since February, when he suffered an ACL tear against Crystal Palace which saw him stretchered off the pitch.

But now it seems a return is drawing close, with the Manchester United man reportedly hoping to be available towards the end of the month.

    Casemiro update on “soldier” Martinez

One of United’s elder statesmen, Casemiro, was speaking to the club’s official website when his interview was interrupted by the sounds of Martinez working hard in the gym.

The Brazilian took the opportunity to heap praise on his teammate and give an update on his progress.

“Licha is on the final straight,” he said. “He is a soldier who works so hard. He is always in the gym working hard. He is a machine that works so hard. He is one of those players that loves to work hard.”

The 32-year-old added that it’s “a pleasure” to have the Argentinian at the club and noted that Martinez was still going strong at 4pm after getting started at 9am.

    Martinez an “essential” player

United are not short of options for the left-sided centre-back position favoured by Martinez, with the likes of Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Ayden Heaven getting minutes in that role.

But for Casemiro, Martinez is still an “essential” presence at the club. He explained: “I will be so glad for his return. It’s not just me – everyone is happy – because he is an essential player at the club that works so hard.”

Last month head coach Amorim reiterated that United miss the player, in particular “his aggression in everything he does.”

He also praised the 27-year-old for finishing his solo training and sticking around to watch the team’s session on the grass.

Martinez is clearly determined to get back to match fitness, and with Shaw looking shaky at times this season will be confident of getting first-team minutes before long.

  • Manchester United keeping eye on Emiliano Martinez

Manchester United keeping eye on Emiliano Martinez

    [ad_1]

Manchester United could revisit their interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez when the January transfer window opens.

    Martinez back on United’s radar

According to Fichajes, Ruben Amorim’s side remain keen on Martinez, despite signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp this summer for around €21 million. The 23-year-old Belgian was brought in to become United’s new first-choice goalkeeper, but the club may reignite their pursuit of the Argentine World Cup winner if Lammens struggles to cement his spot.

Villa’s star man uncertain about his future

Martinez has been a cornerstone of Aston Villa since arriving in 2020, helping Unai Emery’s side rise in both domestic and European competitions. However, the 33-year-old pushed for a move this summer, with Old Trafford strongly linked as a potential destination. Reports suggest United even had the green light from Martinez himself on deadline day, but a move never materialised.

Despite having four years left on his current deal, Martinez’s future at Villa Park remains in question. With whispers that he could be available in January—and his desire for regular football ahead of the World Cup—the door may still be open for a switch.

    Decision time for Amorim

The coming months will be crucial. If Lammens adapts quickly and impresses as United’s number one, Amorim may stick with youth. But should the pressure prove too much, the Red Devils could make a fresh bid for Martinez, who is valued at around €25 million.

For United, it’s a balancing act: back the long-term potential of a young talent or secure the proven experience of a World Cup-winning goalkeeper.

  • Why deploying Lisandro Martinez in Ruben Amorim’s shaky Man United midfield is a bad idea – Man United News And Transfer News

Why deploying Lisandro Martinez in Ruben Amorim’s shaky Man United midfield is a bad idea – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

If there is one position causing concern among Manchester United fans, it is the midfield, and it is no surprise that they are floating some intriguing ideas to address it.

United enjoyed a decent summer transfer window, no doubt. But it could have been a 10/10 window had INEOS delivered Ruben Amorim the “mobile midfielder” his system craves.

With Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, Amorim has decent options, but the midfield still lacks balance.

    United’s midfield pivot

Fernandes is a guaranteed starter; you want your best player on the pitch. However, finding the ideal partner for the Portuguese Magnifico has proven to be tricky.

Mainoo is viewed as Fernandes’ understudy, while Ugarte is yet to adapt to the Premier League’s intensity. Casemiro, currently the preferred option, no longer possesses the athleticism he once did.

United’s midfield is crying out for a “mobile midfielder” who INEOS failed to deliver, despite a bold pursuit of Carlos Baleba. While this transfer need may be revisited next year, for now, Amorim must look within for solutions.

    Martinez in midfield

Interestingly, as suggestions on how Amorim might restore balance to his midfield have begun to surface, the idea of trialling Lisandro Martinez in midfield is gathering momentum.

Martinez is among United’s most technically gifted players, thanks to his ability with the ball at his feet, his intelligence, and his passing range.

The argument is that if deployed in midfield, the South American has the vision to dictate play, is press-resistant, and can shield the defence with his great defensive attributes, all qualities that should help him thrive in the role.

However, as gifted as he is, it has already been made clear why Martinez cannot be the solution for United’s midfield, especially under Amorim.

Martinez lacks a key ingredient for Amorim’s midfield

Obviously, alongside Fernandes, Amorim wants an athletic midfielder, someone with the legs to “cover huge ground” and fill the space left when the Portuguese Magnifico pushes forward.

Martinez, for all his technical brilliance, lacks that athletic edge which Erik ten Hag flagged long ago.

Speaking to ESPN in 2021, as relayed by Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag said, “Daley Blind does not have the running capacity to play in midfield. And neither does Martinez.”

So, as brilliant as Martinez might be, pairing him with Fernandes would not work; it is a bad idea. The same gaps seen when Casemiro partners with Fernandes would likely reappear, so Martinez would not solve the problem.

It is also worth noting that playing in midfield would require more ground to be covered, more tackles to be made, and more contact to be absorbed than the United number six faces as a left-sided centre-back, thereby raising the risk of recurring injuries.

    Martinez’s resurgence

Expected to return from injury soon after a steady recovery, United fans will hope Martinez picks up from where he left off.

That ACL injury in February came at the worst possible time, just as he was starting to dictate play from United’s LCB, proving his class.

Hopefully, that is where he picks up from. However, realistically, given the severity of his injury, it may take time before he finds his rhythm again.

    Amorim’s midfield dilemma

As for United’s midfield, Amorim must find a way to get the best from what he has because, frankly, he has no other choice at least until the transfer window reopens.

  • Emiliano Martinez: Man United target takes drastic step to seal move – Man United News And Transfer News

Emiliano Martinez: Man United target takes drastic step to seal move – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United could be about to seal their fifth summer signing.

    Keeper chaos

The Red Devils’ goalkeeping problems have been on full show already in this very young season.

Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana have been woeful and combined for at least four goals conceded due to keeping errors.

As a result, United have prioritised a goalkeeper signing over a midfielder and are in advanced talks to sign Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.

Nonetheless, the news broke yesterday that United were still keen on Emiliano Martinez and have agreed personal terms with the World Cup winner.

Despite it being the last day of the transfer window, it is still unclear who United will go for at the time of writing.

    Martinez push

The Red Devils made a loan move for the Aston Villa keeper in July and by all accounts, he has been desperate to move to Old Trafford all summer.

Martinez was intriguingly left out of Aston Villa’s squad in their 0-3 defeat to Crystal Palace yesterday and the Villans’ boss Unai Emery was quite clear on his reasons.

Speaking after the game he said, “we need players to be focused, 100 per cent. He wasn’t.”

In a bizarre exchange before the match Emery was asked by Sky Sports why Martinez was not in the squad and he repeated the name of Villa’s starting keeper “Marco Bizet” to three different questions about Martinez.

    Asked to leave

Fabrizio Romano also reported during the early hours of the morning that “Emi Martínez has told Aston Villa that he wants to join Manchester United. Clear message again after the game.”

The deal will hinge on whether United can agree a deal with Aston Villa in the coming hours as there are reports the Villans are keen to add Jadon Sancho to their squad.

  • Aston Villa set sights on Marcin Bulka as Martinez replacement

Aston Villa set sights on Marcin Bulka as Martinez replacement

    [ad_1]

Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing a summer swoop for Polish international Marcin Bulka, with the OGC Nice goalkeeper viewed as a potential successor to Emiliano Martinez at Villa Park.

According to Graeme Bailey of TBR Football, the West Midlands club is closely monitoring Bulka amid growing uncertainty surrounding Martinez’s future. The Argentine World Cup winner is being courted by several top clubs, including Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United, as well as suitors from the Saudi Pro League.

Bulka’s Rise in France After Stuttering Start

Marcin Bulka’s journey has been anything but conventional. Once part of Chelsea’s youth ranks, the 25-year-old struggled for game time at both Stamford Bridge and Paris Saint-Germain. However, since his move to OGC Nice in 2022, Bulka has transformed his career, establishing himself as one of Ligue 1’s most consistent shot-stoppers.

With nearly 100 appearances under his belt, 30 clean sheets, and just 97 goals conceded, Bulka’s form has earned him admirers across Europe. His commanding presence and sharp reflexes make him a natural candidate to step into Martinez’s gloves.

A Return to England on the Cards?

Aston Villa’s shortlist has included names like Joan Garcia, but with the Spaniard likely heading to Barcelona, Bulka has emerged as the prime target. Should OGC Nice agree to a deal, they are expected to pursue Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic as a replacement.

A return to English football for Bulka—six years after leaving Chelsea—could be on the horizon, with Unai Emery’s Villa side ready to make a move that might shape their post-Martinez era.
