The Portuguese manager is believed to view Mbeumo as a crucial piece in a dynamic attacking trio alongside new signing Matheus Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee.

However, fresh reports on Friday indicated that Tottenham had entered the race for the Cameroon international, holding initial discussions with Brentford over a potential transfer.

Mbeumo, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season, is reportedly more interested in a move to Spurs following the appointment of Thomas Frank as their new head coach.

Frank, who was officially named Tottenham’s manager on Thursday, previously coached Mbeumo throughout his entire Brentford career. His arrival in North London has fueled speculation that the winger could follow him.

Adding to the uncertainty, Mbeumo shared a post congratulating Frank on his new role, including a photo of Brentford’s announcement and two prayer emojis.

While some see it as a simple farewell message, others believe it hints at his decision to join Spurs.

On Friday morning, Frank addressed Brentford fans in an open letter following his departure, reflecting on his nearly seven-year tenure.

Having taken over from Dean Smith when Brentford were in the Championship, Frank led them to Premier League promotion and established them as a competitive side, finishing 10th in the 2024/25 season.

Despite needing a series of favorable results, Brentford remained in contention for European qualification until the final day of the campaign.

In the letter, Frank wrote: “I want to extend my profound gratitude to the club for giving me the chance to pursue my dreams and for everyone involved who made the journey such a memorable one.

“For my family and I, it has been a privilege to be allowed to be part of such a special community – it’s an experience and adventure that we will cherish for life. So, thank you.

“Whatever we have achieved, we have achieved together, and our success is built on unity, spirit, courage and ambition at every level of the club and amongst the fans.”
