Antony to Betis: clever proposal emerges to tempt Man United – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United fans anticipated a mini squad shake-up this summer.

Impactful signings were expected, while those deemed surplus to requirements were set to be moved on.

The main agenda was to arm Ruben Amorim with an attack (and even a team) he could take to war.

In revamping the forward line, a few casualties were inevitable, and one of them was to be the £85 million 2022 signing, Antony.

    Antony’s Betis resurgence

Unfortunately, Antony struggled at Old Trafford.

It was not until the second half of the 2024–25 season that his fans finally saw glimpses of consistency. However, it was not at the Red Devils.

On loan at Real Betis, the Brazilian offered flashes of brilliance that hinted at the player United thought they were buying.

Nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances for the Spanish outfit represented a respectable return for someone who failed to set the stage alight at The Theatre of Dreams.

His mini-resurgence brought renewed interest, but any hopes of returning to United and forcing his way into Amorim’s plans have quickly faded.

Antony loved every moment of his loan spell at the Villamarin Stadium.

BBC reports that he has told United he wants to continue at Betis, and the green-and-whites have been informed that he is even willing to take a wage cut to make it happen.

With mutual desire established, a deal would be straightforward, but it is not.

The latest from Sport suggests negotiations remain some way off from reaching a satisfactory agreement.

The Spanish outlet claims Betis are aware that United want €40 million (£34 million) for the winger.

They are not willing to pay that outright. So, would they risk missing out?

The outlet claims Betis are confident of landing Antony, noting his eagerness to return and a lack of credible competition for his signature.

Betis are aware that INEOS are keen to move on the player, but they do not intend to make it easy.

Betis’ plan for the Antony swoop

They intend to prolong negotiations and strike the deal on their terms.

Interestingly, they may agree to meet the asking price, but only if it is paid in two instalments. As Sport claims:

“The club is to wait and offer United a percentage of the player’s rights, with a mandatory purchase option next season… Betis will stand, at most, in the middle. That 50% that would mean paying 20 this year and 20 in 26-27.”

Frustrating? Perhaps. But United have a decision to make

While United may feel conned or frustrated by Betis’ approach, their desire to offload Antony could see them accept the terms.

Removing his wages from the books and recouping half the asking price now (with the rest due next summer) is not exactly a poor outcome.

Hopefully, by the time Betis complete their swoop, United still have time to reinvest those funds in a more prudent signing.

  • Chelsea transfer news: Maresca – Fofana

    [ad_1]

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer speculation from icfootballnews that we think you may have missed featuring the likes of Mohamed Kudus, Joao Pedro and Wesley Fofana…

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared a reported quote from Wesley Fofana making it clear that he does not wish to leave CHELSEA this summer.

The 23-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge since summer of 2022 but injuries have meant that he has only now just started making an impact on the side, and there was alot of speculation in the last summer that he could actually leave the club.

In a post which has now been deleted on social media, Fofana is alleged to have said: “I’m a Chelsea player and I’m proud, I don’t want to go anywhere. I’m happy here, thanks. Is that clear enough?”

The Chelsea defender has been linked with a move to Marseille in recent months, his city of birth, and also took to social media to defend his choice of t-shirt in an image also uploaded on social media.

Replying to an account on X, Fofana said: “This is not a Marseille football team jersey it’s just a t-shirt with the name of the city I was born in and am proud to represent my city.”

    IcFootballnews Says…

Fofana is a very talented Frenchman that could develop into a top level defender over the past few seasons if he is given the opportunities to develop and get to that next step.

CHELSEA are a massive club that have dreams to become one of the best around again, but even though Fofana may want to stay at the club, we are sure that if a big offer does arrive then the Blues will allow him to depart the club.

The Blues have been splashing money and need to balance the books, so it will be very interesting to see just how this all plays out.

    KUDUS TIPPED FOR MOVE

Mohammed Kudus would be a strong, forward-thinking signing for CHELSEA one that adds dynamism, creativity, and tactical versatility to a squad in transition, according to reporter Iomie Stanley.

As the Blues look to add to their squad under Enzo Maresca, signing a player of Kudus’ calibre could represent both a short-term boost and a long-term investment in attacking talent. Here’s why Kudus could be a fantastic addition to the Chelsea squad.

Stanley said: ‘Unlike many young talents linked to Chelsea, Kudus is not a gamble in terms of league adaptation. Since joining West Ham from Ajax in 2023, he has shown that he can thrive in the Premier League’s high-intensity environment.

‘In just one season, he made a mark with 13 goal contributions (including 5 league goals), despite playing in a team that largely struggled to create consistent attacking chances. His technical ability, physical strength, and flair stood out — especially in games against big teams, including a brilliant individual performance against Chelsea at the London Stadium.

‘Kudus is the kind of multi-functional attacker that modern managers covet. He is comfortable playing as a right winger, central attacking midfielder, or even as a false nine. This flexibility would give Maresca numerous options in his fluid, possession-based system. Kudus can provide cover or competition for Cole Palmer, while also rotating with the likes of Madueke, Nkunku, and even Conor Gallagher (if he stays). His presence would allow Chelsea to shift shapes and structures without sacrificing quality or cohesion.

‘One of Kudus’ standout attributes is his dribbling. He ranked among the top players in the league last season for successful take-ons and progressive carries. Chelsea have at times lacked players who can break lines with the ball at their feet, especially in tight games.

‘Kudus brings that ability in abundance, often driving through midfield or cutting in from wide areas to create chances or take shots. His goal of the season bicycle kick and several mazy runs last year proved he has the flair and explosiveness to make something out of nothing — a crucial quality at the top level.

‘At just 25 years old, Kudus still has significant room for growth. Chelsea have made a habit of signing young players with high ceilings, and Kudus fits that recruitment model. If he performs well, his value is likely to increase, especially with the spotlight of European competitions returning to Stamford Bridge. He could become a key figure in a young Chelsea core alongside Palmer, Enzo Fernández, and Moisés Caicedo.

‘If CHELSEA can secure his signature, he could quickly become one of the most influential signings of their new era.’

    MARESCA MAKES JOAO PEDRO CLAIM

Enzo Maresca hailed Joao Pedro’s matchwinning CHELSEA debut after the new signing from Brighton scored the goals that secured a place in the Club World Cup final, and has revealed why the Brazilian star was signed by the club.

The Blues will take on either Real Madrid or reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s showpiece after they continued their fine form in the competition with a comprehensive win.

    Getty

Pedro took just 18 minutes to make his mark, curling an unsaveable shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area and he made the game safe with 20 minutes remaining with an arguably better strike, twisting inside onto his right foot and blasting the ball beyond Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio.

‘We are very happy with Joao, we know that Joao is a very good player and a student that he can be,’ said Maresca in his post match press conference.

‘Because he has qualities inside, like today. I think another thing that is important about Joao is that he was on holiday, so it’s a bit more fresh compared to the rest.

‘So it’s something that is important to be aware of that. So, happy for Joao.’

‘We knew how good he was as a player,’ said Maresca. ‘The reason why we brought him is because this season we faced many teams with a low block.

‘His quality is very good against this kind of team. As a player, as a person, first of all, he is from Brazil. Most of the Brazilian players are very happy with their journey with football.

‘Also, he worked with a friend of mine in Brighton, Roberto De Zerbi. I spoke with Roberto a while ago. This is exactly the way he should play.

‘It doesn’t mean that he is going to be all season like this. It’s not going to happen. But it’s good to have him also as an option.’

Liverpool confirm Preston friendly as centre-back linked – Latest LFC News – Liverpool FC

    [ad_1]

Liverpool have given the green light for Sunday’s opening pre-season friendly at Preston to go ahead as planned, on a Wednesday which saw more fixture news.

    A big update on fixtures

Following the sad passing of Diogo Jota there was uncertainty over whether the trip to Preston on Sunday would take place.

But it has now been widely reported that, following consultation with players and staff and talks between both clubs, the 3pm kickoff will go ahead.

Preston are understood to have plans in place for tributes to Jota on what will be Liverpool’s first outing since he passed away last week.

Elsewhere on Wednesday it was announced that the Premier League clashes with Newcastle and Arsenal had been moved for TV coverage.

Full details of Liverpool’s latest fixture changes can be found here

Jota scored 65 goals in his 182 games for Liverpool, with the club releasing a compilation of every strike from the Portuguese – from Arsenal to Everton.

In many ways, his first goal set the tone: a scruffy effort which left Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno stranded as it trickled into the far bottom corner.

Arguably Jota’s best goal was his turn and blasted finish against Everton to cap a 4-1 victory at Goodison Park in December 2021.

But his most impactful was almost certainly the winner as Liverpool came back to beat Tottenham 4-3 in April 2023 – coming seconds after Richarlison scored to make it 3-3 and making his gamer celebration iconic.

  • Chelsea transfer news: Spencer – Gittens

    [ad_1]

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news, gossip and transfer speculation from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Jamie Gittens, Morgan Rodgers and Becky Spencer that we think you guys may have missed today…

Former Blues star Glen Johnson has claimed that Jamie Gittens is a risk signing for CHELSEA, after the Blues agreed to bring the Englishman to the Premier League from Borussia Dortmund in a deal that cost the club around £50 million this week.

The Englishman’s move to Stamford Bridge was finally confirmed on Saturday after Chelsea agreed a £48.5million deal with the Bundesliga club, and ended months of speculation about his future.

Gittens, who spent time in Chelsea’s youth set-up, scored 17 goals and contributed 14 assists in 107 games over his four seasons at Dortmund, will not have to work hard as he is a bit of a risk signing from Chelsea, asked about Jamie Gittens, Johnson told Metro via 888sport: ‘It’s always a risk signing players from outside the Premier League, especially those with a big transfer fee.

‘There are a lot of players who come to the Premier League and find games too fast, and they get overrun – they can’t cope.

‘But there are also a lot of players that can deal with the physicality. It is a risk, but it could be one worth taking.’

It comes after Gittens revealed that he is more ready for the Premier League that he was a few years ago. Gittens spent time at Manchester City prior to his move to Germany, and is the latest product from that academy to join Maresca’s squad: ‘I think I left England a boy, but I’ve come back as a man,’ Gittens told the club’s official website

‘Before I went to Dortmund, I was living by myself in digs in Manchester, so I’ve lived without my family since I was 14. Since then, I’ve developed as a man.

‘It was massive for me. I went there during lockdown – it was Covid times – so I was stuck in the youth house at Dortmund and, during the first year and a half, there were no football games, only training.

‘Then I had an injury, so it took me two years to get into my rhythm properly. It wasn’t easy being injured; it was tough, but you learn a lot during difficult periods, and after that, it was quite smooth.

‘It was lots of FaceTime calls with my mum, dad and sister. Playing with my friends on PlayStation, going into party chat, but it made me better and more resilient to challenges by living alone.

‘It taught me a lot about how to be patient and how to keep working without being distracted.’

    SPENCER SIGNS

Experienced goalkeeper Becky Spencer will remain with CHELSEA after making her loan move permanent, the Blues have officially revealed on the club website this week.

The Blues posted on the club website: ‘The goalkeeper spent the last three months of the 2024/25 season with the Blues in a temporary switch from Tottenham Hotspur, and has now completed a permanent transfer by signing a one-year contract with Chelsea, with an option to extend until 2027.

‘Spencer, who had previously represented us between 2016 and 2018, returned to west London last season to provide further cover for Hannah Hampton, following an injury to Fenke Liefting and Zecira Musovic’s pregnancy.

And the Blues have decided to make the switch permanent ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Spencer said: ‘I’m over the moon to be given the opportunity to stay at this magical club, it somewhere which has always felt like home for me.

‘We have amazing fans and I look forward to coming back into this environment on a permanent basis and working alongside the great goalkeeper’s union we have.’

‘We are really pleased to welcome Becky to the goalkeeping union permanently,’ said Paul Green, Chelsea’s head of women’s football.

‘Her experience will provide cover and enable the younger goalkeepers to pursue valuable development opportunities.

‘‘She settled in well during her loan and is a great character to have in the group. We all look forward to working with her again next season.’

    RODGERS OFFER TO BE MADE?

CHELSEA are once again lining up a summer move to try and bring Morgan Rodgers from Aston Villa amid all the speculation that Villians may need to sell this transfer window in order to balance the books.

    Getty Images

Unai Emery’s side missed out on qualifying for the elite European competition after their final defeat against Manchester United consigned them to Europa League football next season. Villa had an impressive run in the tournament last season, beating the likes of Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig before they were knocked out by eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain in a dramatic quarter-final.

But Villa have now been hit with an unconditional €11million fine for a breach of the organisation’s financial regulations, including €5m for failing to comply with the football earnings rules plus €6m for breaching the squad costs rules.

And that has led to alot of speculation in the media suggesting that a number of top clubs are lining up a number of moves for Villa’s top players, including Morgan, with reports in the Daily Express website claiming that CHELSEA could make an offer for Rodgers.

He made an immediate impact at Villa and made himself a contender to be considered for the England senior squad, not long after his £15m move from Middlesbrough.

    IcFootballnews Says…

Rodgers is brilliant on the ball and so tough to take it from him, he is a great player for Aston Villa and they will not want to lose a player that is so dangerous against pretty much any defence.

Villa do have some financial issues, but they will not want to start letting their best players go, otherwise it will be a step back from all the hard work from the past few seasons.

And to be honest, Rodgers is very happy at Villa right now and will not want to leave the club.

  • Altay Bayindir not considered good enough, Man United have identified perfect alternative – Man United News And Transfer News

Altay Bayindir not considered good enough, Man United have identified perfect alternative – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United have a big call to take regarding the goalkeeping position, given the struggles of both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir last season.

The Cameroon was culpable for major mistakes in both the Premier League and Europa League, which prompted Ruben Amorim to hand backup keeper Bayindir added minutes.

The Turkiye international made his European debut as well as Premier League debut, but apart from a Man Of the Match performance in the FA Cup, the ex-Fenerbahce ace was a major disappointment.

He conceded avoidable goals against both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle, and as per Givemesport, the head coach is far from pleased with what he saw from the 27-year-old.

    Altay Bayindir struggled last term

And the former Sporting CP boss has made it very clear to the co-owners that he wants increased competition for the No.1 spot in the new season.

The Peoples Person has already relayed that Onana might be staying on as the starting goalie due to a mixture of his asking price and wage demands, and while Amorim cannot help with that, he is desperate for more quality between the sticks.

Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens is one of the club’s targets, and the Red Devils have continued to make checks on the 23-year-old. In fact, the report even mentioned that INEOS have assured Amorim that they will take action.

“Amorim is determined for Manchester United to sign a new custodian who will put genuine pressure on Onana and ensure he does not become too comfortable, GMS sources have learned, having seen Altay Bayindir fail to prove that he can truly challenge him for regular game time.

    Senne Lammens, the alternative

“GMS sources have been told that Manchester United have made further checks on Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens, with key decision-makers weighing up whether he is capable of challenging for minutes in the starting line-up if he arrives from Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League in the remainder of the transfer window.

“Manchester United have made assurances that they will land a new shot-stopper as Bayindir has been unable to win over his doubters, GMS sources understand, but they are not planning to rush into reaching an agreement for any targets ahead of their opening pre-season friendly against Leeds United on July 19.”

The Belgian ace, described as “world-class“, has garnered interest from multiple big clubs, and has hinted in the past that he would not turn down a move to Old Trafford. Whether INEOS can afford his asking price will depend on player sales.

As for Altay Bayindir, INEOS have been trying to send him back to his homeland, but so far, all the Turkish big sides have stayed away from submitting a concrete offer.

Rasmus Hojlund receives a major wake-up call as Ruben Amorim takes call on his future – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United are in need of quality up top following a disastrous season for Rasmus Hojlund last time out.

The Dane managed a meagre four Premier League goals, while also disappointing with his overall play. Which is why Ruben Amorim was desperate for a replacement.

However, so far, INEOS have failed to land top targets such as Liam Delap, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, and as things stand, even Ollie Watkins could be heading out of their grasp.

Which is why the Denmark international has claimed that he wants to stay and fight for his place in the team, seeing how his current club have failed to replace him thus far.

Rasmus Hojlund not in Amorim’s plans

However, TBR Football have claimed that the 22-year-old already knows that he is not in Amorim’s plans, which means an exit is the best solution for both parties.

Inter Milan have been trying to acquire his signature this summer, but so far, their loan approaches have been rebuffed by the 20-time English league champions, who are hoping for a permanent solution.

“Hojlund knows that he is not serious in the plans of Ruben Amorim, he knows that the club are actively looking for a new number 9.

“Inter Milan have held talks, and Hojlund would be keen but this is ongoing – Hojlund is not actively pushing to leave, but he knows United would not stand in his way and he knows they would ideally like to replace him and that impact on any player.

    Will Inter return for him?

“There is still an expectation within the club that he does leave, if they bring another 9 in, as they hope, then it remains highly likely he leaves.”

The ex-Atalanta star remains open to the idea of a return to Italy, but for that to happen, Inter will need to cough up €40-€45 million.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and are close to sealing Bryan Mbeumo’s signature from Brentford.

Once Rasmus Hojlund leaves, hopefully, INEOS can land a ruthless replacement, ideally someone who can hit the ground running immediately.

Manchester United interested in “next Kevin De Bruyne” Kees Smit – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United are among the clubs in queue for AZ Alkmaar jewel Kees Smit, as per reports.

United have prioritised adding creativity to their squad this summer. The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are working to find an agreement with Brentford over the signing of their winger Bryan Mbeumo.

Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to play behind the striker as wide number 10s in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.

However, it appears United may look to pounce on an opportunity to sign another attacking midfielder, who has emerged as one of the most exciting creative talents in Europe.

Smit made his breakthrough for Alkmaar last season, bagging 10 goals and seven assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.

The 19-year-old also led the Netherlands to the European Under-19 Championship title in June. No player scored more goals than Smit, who was named Player of the Tournament.

The Dutchman has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne with this dribbling, close control, and vision in the final third.

Accordingly, half of England seems to be after his signature.

According to TBR Football, United are keeping tabs on Smit’s situation but they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Smit is tied to the club until 2028 but Alkmaar might struggle to keep hold of him this summer due to growing interest from top clubs.

Spurs and Chelsea are viewed as his strongest suitors, with United yet to make any concrete move for his services.

Considering Smit’s potential, United should explore the possibility of signing him if their budget allows it, as the Alkmaar prodigy is capable of playing all across the midfield as well as on the flanks.

  • Jadon Sancho: Juventus “accelerate” for the Man United star, “decisive” contacts planned – Man United News And Transfer News

Jadon Sancho: Juventus “accelerate” for the Man United star, “decisive” contacts planned – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Jadon Sancho to Juventus is a hot topic in the Italian football media.

The 25 year old will leave Manchester United one way or another this summer, after spending last season on loan at Chelsea.

Despite his disastrous last four years in football, which only afforded brief glimpses of the talent he had shown at Borussia Dortmund that led United to buying him, the Old Lady has convinced herself that she wants the cheeky chappie at the Allianz Arena.

The England international is keen. There has been one fly in the ointment, though, and that is Francisco Conceição. Juve were hoping to get FC Porto to reduce their €30 million buy option on the Portugal international and Sancho was merely a plan B should that deal fall through.

Light at the end of a four-year tunnel

However, this morning, as relayed here, Corriere dello Sport reported that United and Juve had informally agreed a deal that would take Sancho to Turin.

That report stated that the two clubs would either agree on a cash deal, with €25 million requested by United, or to a player swap with midfielder Douglas Luiz.

CDS also claimed that the Bianconeri were prepared to offer Sancho €7 million per year in wages but that the player was holding out for €8m. This would be the equivalent of £132,000 per week, a sizeable pay cut from his current United salary, which approaches £200,000 pw.

But in a fresh update this evening, CDS’ old rivals, Gazzetta dello Sport, have delivered a slightly different version of events.

    Kicking United when they’re down

First it must be said that GDS is just as excited as CDS about the prospect of a deal. They claim that Juventus are “accelerating” for Sancho and that, crucially, they intend to pursue the deal regardless of whether they strike a deal with Porto to make Conceicão’s loan permanent.

GDS claim that “now the distance between Juve’s offer and the salary request is minimal (a couple of million to be spread over the entire duration of the relationship are in question).”

    But then comes the kicker.

Juventus can see that “Sancho is only one year away from expiring, Juve is in pole position and wants to exploit the advantage by leveraging Manchester’s need to eliminate the cost of a player outside the squad.

“A possible containment of costs in the Sancho operation would allow the dialogue with Manchester United to continue and keep hopes alive for Conceiçao.”

Put simply, Jadon is sold on the deal and United have to sell him at any cost. So Juventus will push for a price reduction so they can also buy Chico when Porto finally come to the table.

It’s a problem for INEOS, but what United do have in their favour is time. GDS admits that “Sancho wants to know his future quickly and wants guarantees, before declining other offers.”

For that reason, the outlet claims that contacts will take place this week that should be “decisive in bringing the matter into its final phase.”

The latter, David, seemed like a match made in heaven; a free agent and lethal finisher, he seemed to speak head coach Ruben Amorim’s language in terms of football and part-owners INEOS’ language in terms of finance.

However, today it is official: David has joined Delap in the list of strikers snapped up by other clubs when his transfer to Juventus was confirmed.

Bizarrely, United never even made a bid for the Canadian, at least, not one reported by the mainstream media.

But fear not, the jungle drums have no intention of slowing. As quickly as one name is crossed off the list, another has been added to it: that of Marcus Thuram.

    Fresh blood

According to various reports from Italy, including Calciomercato.com, Thuram, Inter’s talented counterfoil to Lautaro Martinez in Simeone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system, could be looking for pastures new after getting involved in a public spat with the club captain following the Nerazzurri’s shock exit from the Club World Cup.

In an interview following the defeat to Fluminense, Martínez openly questioned the commitment of his teammates, saying: “We have a clear message: anyone who wants to stay must stay, anyone who doesn’t want to stay here should leave.”

Martinez mentioned no names, but Inter president Beppe Marota suggested he was referring to Hakan Calhanoglu, who travelled but did not play and is reportedly pushing for a return to his native Turkey to play for Galatasaray.

Calhanoglu posted a long and detailed defence on Instagram, which Thuram liked. He was the only Inter player to do so and the Italian media now believe there is a dressing room rift that could lead to the Frenchman leaving.

Being involved in public spats and posting inappropriate social media content? Thuram would fit right in at United, so add him to the list, why don’t you? And that is exactly what Calciomercato have done.

“Thuram is popular in the Premier League,” the outlet reported. “The teams potentially interested in the number 9, who has a clause of 85 million euros [are] Arsenal and Manchester United, who are looking for a centre-forward…

“…Thuram’s name could be tempting for the English, but PSG should not be underestimated either, having sought him in 2023, before his free transfer to Inter.”

Calcio’s report may turn out to be true, but it seems unlikely. Whatever United’s genuine plans are for a striker, it would be a huge surprise were they to involve paying €85 million for anyone, no matter how good a player.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin unlikely to move to Manchester United due to massive wage demands – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United’s first port of call this summer was adding goals to the first team after a dismal campaign in front of goal last time out.

Ruben Amorim has realised that Rasmus Hojlund cannot lead the line on his own, while he also needs to add creativity up front after seeing the Dane struggle due to the lack of service.

Which explains why Matheus Cunha has been brought in, while the Red Devils are also inching closer to a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

Both the Brazilian and the Cameroonian can play up front on their own, but Amorim would ideally like a ruthless No.9 which is why INEOS were trying to sign Liam Delap, and Viktor Gyokeres.

United cannot afford the wages of Dominic Calvert-Lewin

While the Englishman chose Chelsea, the Swede seems to prefer Arsenal currently, which is why the 20-time English league champions have pivoted to Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa.

His asking price and the Gunners’ lingering interest have emerged as obstacles for the Red Devils, and they had kept Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a backup option in case the void up front needed an emergency solution late on in the window.

But as revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs, the former Everton ace’s personal demands are quite staggering, which is why INEOS have stepped away from talks for now. He was earning £100,000 gross per week at Goodison Park (via capology).

The England international, owing to his free agent status, wants high weekly wages, and they will only return in case all their other plans go south, or the striker becomes desperate and reduces his demands late on in the window.

    What next for United?

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s wage demands are very high, and therefore it is unlikely that Man United will move in that direction unless the demands decrease or they have a hole in the squad later in the window. As a free agent, the player will be rigid on his demands.”

He has over 50 Premier League goals for the Toffees, and managed three goals and two assists last season. On the face of it, it looks like a poor season, but he completed 90 minutes on only eight occasions.

The season prior, he had eight goals and three assists, again respectable figures, while back in the 20/21 season, he netted 21 times while also registering five assists.

His biggest asset is his physical ability and his aerial prowess, something United have lacked since Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo left. Not to mention his Premier League experience. But as of now, a deal looks unlikely.
