Onana is now on the verge of completing a loan switch to Trabzonspor, with the Turkish transfer window still open and all signs pointing to a deal being finalized shortly.
As United prepare for Sunday’s clash with Manchester City, they’re expected to hand a first start to 23-year-old Senne Lammens. The young Belgian has been earmarked as a potential long-term fix for the club’s ongoing goalkeeping dilemma.
Although Onana remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, some insiders believe his exit marks the unofficial end of his tenure with the club.
“Although it is a straight loan, he is effectively ending his United career with this switch,” writes Whitwell. “An Old Trafford return after a season of Super Lig football is highly unlikely.”
While Amorim had promoted Bayindir to first choice at Onana’s expense, neither was able to pin down the place with anything approaching competence in the early part of this season.

“Despite expecting to play, Onana was left out of the squad to face Arsenal, and Amorim kept him on the bench against Fulham and Burnley either side of the blunders [against Grimsby Town] at Blundell Park.”
With Senne Lammens now part of the squad and Andre Onana nearing a departure, Manchester United are hoping for greater stability between the posts as the Premier League season unfolds.
