Ruben Amorim says the derby is a “good time” for Benjamin Sesko to start his first Premier League game – Man United News And Transfer News

Ruben Amorim has hinted Benjamin Sesko will start in the Manchester Derby tomorrow.

The Manchester United head coach was facing the media in the embargoed section of the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match.

    Asked about Sesko, he said:

“Maybe against City, it is a good moment for him to start the game.”

The subject then moved to Kobbie Mainoo and the fact the young star came close to leaving in the summer.

“And sometimes I think for some guys it’s enough. For him, it’s not enough. Maybe it’s not fair, but I think I’m helping Kobbie Mainoo and that’s it.

He will have opportunities like the other guys. If I feel during the week that he’s the best player to play, he’s going to play and I proved that already to every player here.

“I believe a lot in him. I have the same thing [opinion] that you have and that is a top, top player, but he can be so much better, so I’m focused on that.”

“I believe a lot in Kobbie. But some of you think Kobbie is done, but I think he can be so much better.

“He is a top, top player, but I think he can be better than that.”

The head coach was asked what he feels Mainoo needs to improve to earn a regular place in the side.

“I think he needs the technical ability he has, but more pace,” he replied. “He needs to understand the position better, to play in different speeds. Sometimes it’s lower, sometimes it’s faster. I think he can improve on that.”

Amorim’s comments in the first section of the presser can be read here.

Predicted Man United XI vs Aston Villa: Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven to start – Man United News And Transfer News

It is not true that there is nothing to play for as Manchester United take the field for the last Premier League match of their dismal 2024/25 campaign against Aston Villa today.

The Red Devils could finish as low as 17th and as high as 14th depending on their and others’ results, which means a difference of around £10 million in prize money.

It’s therefore likely head coach Ruben Amorim will put out a side he thinks can win the game, but he is likely to also lay a foundation for the type of side he wants to start building for the 2025/26 season.

Andre Onana is one player who could be sidelined after a poor season, giving Altay Bayindir a chance in goal.

Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro are likely to start and represent beacons of hope for next season. Harry Maguire could be the third centre back if Matthijs de Ligt has not recovered from injury.

With Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans set to leave and Lisandro Martinez injured, it’s possible that Amorim will look to Heaven, De Ligt and Yoro as youthful starting trio going forward, with Maguire, Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui and Martinez as backups.

Diogo Dalot is a trusted lieutenant so he could play today at right wing back, with Patrick Dorgu on the left.

Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte could be the central midfield pair. There have been reports of a big offer from Saudi Arabia for Fernandes so if he does not make the starting XI, rumours will spread like wildfire.

Casemiro, Toby Collyer and Kobbie Mainoo are also options to start the game.

Up front, it’s likely that Amorim finally pulls the plug on Rasmus Hojlund’s dreadful campaign and gives the even younger Chido Obi a start.

With Alejandro Garnacho on his way out of the club, Josh Zirkzee and Amad will probably support Obi, although Mason Mount is another option.

If results give way to sentimentality, Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen might feature at some point as they say goodbye to the club.

With all that in mind, here is our predicted starting XI for today’s 4pm kick-off at Old Trafford:

Confirmed Manchester United XI vs Chelsea: Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount and Amad start – Man United News And Transfer News

Ruben Amorim has picked a strong XI for tonight’s Premier League clash with Chelsea despite Wednesday’s Europa League final looming on the horizon.

    Andre Onana is in goal.

The back three are Noussair Mazraoui (or Luke Shaw), Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Patrick Dorgu and either Mazraoui or Shaw are the wing backs.

Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro are the midfield duo.

Amad, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund are the front three.

On the subs bench are Altay Bayindir, Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson, Ayden Heaven and Toby Collyer, who both return after injury, Christian Eriksen, Kobbie Mainoo, Manu Ugarte and Alejandro Garnacho.

This means there is no striker on the bench, with Chido Obi left out of the squad.

Matthijs de Ligt, Diogo Dalot and Leny Yoro are all hoping to be fit for Wednesday’s final but were not ready for this one.

Lisandro Martinez and Josh Zirkzee are out for the season.

Jonny Evans remains absent and may have played his last game for the club.

Kick-off tonight at Stamford Bridge is at 8.15pm.

Amad put on a show during his second-half cameo, Ruben Amorim has to start him in the Europa League final – Man United News And Transfer News

Old Trafford was witness to yet another magical European night as Manchester United came back from a goal down to thrash Athletic Club 4-1 in the Europa League semi-final second leg on Thursday.

An aggregate win of 7-1 against La Liga’s meanest defence is no mean feat and sets it up brilliantly for the final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao in 13 days’ time.

Despite an aggregate 3-0 lead, it was a tough start for the hosts as the Basque side dominated the first 45 minutes, getting a goal in the 31st minute.

They put the home side under a lot of pressure at the start of the second half, which Leny Yoro helped weather on his own at times. That prompted Ruben Amorim to make a triple substitution, which changed the game completely.

    Brilliant cameo

Mason Mount grabbed a brace, while Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund got in on the act as well. And the head coach did not fail to mention Amad’s contribution as well.

In 27 minutes, he grabbed the assist for Hojlund’s goal, which he put on a plate for the Dane after fabulous work down the right.

His ability to maneuver in tight areas and dribble past players is magical to witness and on Thursday, he completed a 100% of his dribbles during his cameo.

He had one shot which was blocked while three of his touches were inside the penalty box while one of his passes was into the final third.

    Selection dilemma for Amorim

Not only with the ball, the Ivorian was class off it as well, recovering the ball twice while winning all his ground duels as well as aerial duels (all stats via fotmob).

This display will certainly make Amorim think about who he is going to start either side of the attacker against Spurs at the San Mames on May 21.

While Alejandro Garnacho runs straight at defenders, and is very direct, the Ivory Coast international can do a lot of different things and it is good for the head coach to have multiple options ahead of the biggest game of the season.

Amad’s return from injury has been timed just right with the 22-year-old netting once and assisting one in his last two substitute appearances.
