Manchester United could be about to seal their fifth summer signing.

Keeper chaos

The Red Devils’ goalkeeping problems have been on full show already in this very young season.

Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana have been woeful and combined for at least four goals conceded due to keeping errors.

As a result, United have prioritised a goalkeeper signing over a midfielder and are in advanced talks to sign Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.

Nonetheless, the news broke yesterday that United were still keen on Emiliano Martinez and have agreed personal terms with the World Cup winner.

Despite it being the last day of the transfer window, it is still unclear who United will go for at the time of writing.

Martinez push

The Red Devils made a loan move for the Aston Villa keeper in July and by all accounts, he has been desperate to move to Old Trafford all summer.

Martinez was intriguingly left out of Aston Villa’s squad in their 0-3 defeat to Crystal Palace yesterday and the Villans’ boss Unai Emery was quite clear on his reasons.

Speaking after the game he said, “we need players to be focused, 100 per cent. He wasn’t.”

In a bizarre exchange before the match Emery was asked by Sky Sports why Martinez was not in the squad and he repeated the name of Villa’s starting keeper “Marco Bizet” to three different questions about Martinez.

Asked to leave

Fabrizio Romano also reported during the early hours of the morning that “Emi Martínez has told Aston Villa that he wants to join Manchester United. Clear message again after the game.”

The deal will hinge on whether United can agree a deal with Aston Villa in the coming hours as there are reports the Villans are keen to add Jadon Sancho to their squad.

The club is still determined to secure Mbeumo’s signature and hopes to finalize the transfer before heading to the United States for their Premier League Summer Series tour.

However, complications are mounting. Although Tottenham had shown interest, Mbeumo has made it clear that his preference is a move to Old Trafford.

Now, developments elsewhere could further complicate United’s efforts to land the striker.

Nottingham Forest have reignited their interest in Yoane Wissa, Mbeumo’s teammate, submitting a new bid after previous attempts fell short.

Forest view Wissa as a replacement for Anthony Elanga, who is reportedly close to joining Newcastle in the coming days.

If Wissa completes a move to the City Ground, Brentford may raise their valuation of Mbeumo even higher, making negotiations more difficult for United.

This could force United to accelerate talks in order to reach an agreement before Brentford lose both key attackers. Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, recently stated that no deal for Mbeumo is imminent.

As quoted by Sky Sports, he said: “There’s significant interest in Bryan. I think it’s been well publicised and spoken about, his preference. I think from what I understand he’s also, if needs be, happy to stay at Brentford next year as well.

“Let’s see on that. I think our position is that he had an unbelievable season last season, we expected interest in him. If that deal’s right, there’s a deal to do, if not then he stays.

“We’ve spoken to Bryan and his representatives. It’s not a given that he’s going to depart this summer. There is interest.

“He had a great season last season so it’s inevitable there’s going to be interest in him. If we get the right offer, there’s potentially a deal to be done but there’s only so much we can say on that.”

Manchester United are in need of quality up top following a disastrous season for Rasmus Hojlund last time out.

The Dane managed a meagre four Premier League goals, while also disappointing with his overall play. Which is why Ruben Amorim was desperate for a replacement.

However, so far, INEOS have failed to land top targets such as Liam Delap, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, and as things stand, even Ollie Watkins could be heading out of their grasp.

Which is why the Denmark international has claimed that he wants to stay and fight for his place in the team, seeing how his current club have failed to replace him thus far.

Rasmus Hojlund not in Amorim’s plans

However, TBR Football have claimed that the 22-year-old already knows that he is not in Amorim’s plans, which means an exit is the best solution for both parties.

Inter Milan have been trying to acquire his signature this summer, but so far, their loan approaches have been rebuffed by the 20-time English league champions, who are hoping for a permanent solution.

“Hojlund knows that he is not serious in the plans of Ruben Amorim, he knows that the club are actively looking for a new number 9.

“Inter Milan have held talks, and Hojlund would be keen but this is ongoing – Hojlund is not actively pushing to leave, but he knows United would not stand in his way and he knows they would ideally like to replace him and that impact on any player.

Will Inter return for him?

“There is still an expectation within the club that he does leave, if they bring another 9 in, as they hope, then it remains highly likely he leaves.”

The ex-Atalanta star remains open to the idea of a return to Italy, but for that to happen, Inter will need to cough up €40-€45 million.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and are close to sealing Bryan Mbeumo’s signature from Brentford.

Once Rasmus Hojlund leaves, hopefully, INEOS can land a ruthless replacement, ideally someone who can hit the ground running immediately.

Despite reportedly being told by manager Ruben Amorim to seek a new club this summer, the 20-year-old participated in both friendly fixtures.

Previously, Garnacho voiced his frustration over his omission from the starting lineup in United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, and his latest post may add to the tension.

Upon landing back in Manchester on Saturday, he shared an Instagram story featuring a photo of the team’s plane touching down, captioned simply: “Finally,” alongside emojis of a crying face, prayer hands, and a beach.

His apparent relief at the end of United’s disappointing season comes as discussions over his potential departure are expected to escalate in the coming weeks.

The rift between Garnacho and Amorim boiled over after the player was limited to just 20 minutes in the Europa League final, leading him to slam the campaign as “A s*** season.”

Garnacho’s brother soon poured petrol on the flames by accusing Amorim of scapegoating the player, claiming Garnacho had been “thrown under the bus” after the final defeat.

Despite the controversy, Garnacho was omitted from the team for United’s last Premier League game against Aston Villa, though he did join the team for their post-season tour in Asia, where he played in both fixtures.

Meanwhile, another United player, Amad Diallo, found himself in trouble in the Asian tour after he was spotted giving the middle finger to a supporter outside the team hotel in Malaysia.

Amad escaped any internal punishment and defended his actions on X, stating, “I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mom…” He added, “I shouldn’t have reacted like that but I don’t regret what I did. We had a great time in Malaysia with good people.”
