Manchester United willing to sell Casemiro for just €10m this summer – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United are prepared to sell ageing midfielder Casemiro this summer, as per reports.

After the Europa League final defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, Ruben Amorim underlined he is not going to change his philosophy, even if it means losing the United job.

It seems despite United’s abysmal campaign, the club’s hierarchy are prepared to keep the ex-Sporting CP manager at the helm for another season.

However, a major overhaul of the current squad is needed this summer to ensure the unwavering Amorim manages to effectively implement his ideas.

The absence of European football means INEOS will have to sell a number of players to bring in ideal profiles for their head coach. The situation is expected to lead to Casemiro’s departure.

According to Fichajes, Casemiro is among the players United are open to selling ahead of the new season, as he is no longer considered an indispensable part of Amorim’s first team.

The Spanish outlet claim United would be willing to let the 33-year-old leave for around €10 million owing to his age.

To be fair to the veteran midfielder, he has been a sort of revelation for United in recent months.

After struggling to break into Amorim’s starting lineup during the Portuguese’s early days at the club, the Brazilian stepped up to establish himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet during the business end of the season.

The ex-Real Madrid man was also named in the Europa League Team of the Season alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Still, considering his age and the fact that he is the highest-paid player at the club, it is understandable why United are reported to be keen on offloading him.

On the other hand, there’s a real desire to keep Fernandes, 30, at Old Trafford but Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal are pushing to secure his services, having reportedly tabled a massive offer for him.

“A positive end to a tough season”: Mason Mount reveals Man United must win the Europa League final this week – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has revealed victory in the Europa League final on Wednesday night can bring a “positive end to a tough season” for the Red Devils.

Mount, 26, has endured a miserable time since his £55 million switch to Old Trafford from Stamford Bridge in 2023.

A barrage of injuries have limited the Cobham graduate’s opportunities for United on the pitch – a situation which can impact even the most mentally strong footballer.

“It is not always easy,” Mount reveals. “I have had many days at Carrington sitting on the treatment bed, when I want to be training. I have been in the stand watching games when I wanted to be playing.

“But that was the circumstances. I gave everything to continue my rehab to try and get back. I have learned a lot from these moments. You really appreciate it more.”

And this faith was rewarded with Mount’s outstanding cameo off the bench in the semi-final clash against Athletic Club offering a glimpse of the talent United’s number seven retains.

With United trailing 1-0 at Old Trafford in the second leg, the game hung in a precarious place following the 3-0 win in Spain in the reverse fixture. If Athletic grabbed the next goal, the stadium would have been on tenterhooks and the Red Devils would almost certainly have imploded.

But Mount produced a brilliant turn-and-finish combination to draw his side level, allowing United to settle and add two more goals, before an outrageous long-range effort from the 26-year-old in added time put the game to bed at 4-1, 7-1 on aggregate.

Mount will be hoping he gets the starting nod from Amorim in Bilbao as United face off against Tottenham Hotspur in the final – a side they have lost to three times already this season.

The Portuguese coach is thought to be a huge fan of Mount with the midfielder’s best season in a Chelsea shirt coming in the exact same 3-4-2-1 system Amorim utilises.

Mount has experienced heart-breaking losses in finals before – namely the penalty shoot-out loss to Italy for England in EURO 2020 – and is keen to avoid a repeat in Spain.

“The losses are hard,” said Mount. “I have had quite a few at Wembley and they stick with you for a long time. But when you do win, you understand that feeling and always want it.

“I don’t know how many of the lads have too much experience of that but I can tell you I have had quite a few losses and I don’t want that feeling.”

Mount insists United’s recent results do not reflect the actual performances Amorim’s side have produced, mirroring a point the Portuguese coach made last week.

“I feel we’re close,” the 26-year-old said. “It’s small details here and there in games, especially in the Premier League.

“If the small details aren’t right you can get punished, which can be devastating at times. I think we’re close to correcting them and when you win trophies you get extra confidence and you build that togetherness as a group.

“But we know the situation we are in. As a group, we try to block out the noise but we know the league has not been good enough. We won’t forget about what we have done in the league but if we can win, it can be a positive end to a tough season.”

The final in Bilbao on Wednesday arguably United’s most important match since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement as so much more rests upon it than just adding another trophy to the club’s glittering cabinet.

The prospect of Champions League football next season, despite having finished 16th in the Premier League, is almost invaluable given the vast array of financial benefits entry into Europe’s elite competition brings.

Bilbao or bust is the mantra at Old Trafford this week. Or, as Mount more diplomatically puts it, “a positive end to a tough season.”

Teammate of Man United target Viktor Gyokeres drops huge hint on Swede’s future this summer – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres is a man in demand this summer and his teammate has offered a revealing insight into the Swede’s future in Lisbon.

The Sporting CP striker, who has scored 98 goals and provided 28 assists in two seasons for Leões, is being chased by Europe’s elite with a £55 million price tag reported to be sufficient to secure his signing.

Arsenal are believed to be at the front of the queue for Gyokeres with new sporting director Andre Berta a huge fan of the 26-year-old.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed the Gunners have submitted a “monster contract” to the Swedish international and will table an official bid to Sporting after next weekend’s Taça de Portugal final.

However, United are refusing to give up on the prospect of reuniting head coach Ruben Amorim with his former pupil as a new number nine is considered an urgent priority at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are believed to be preparing an offer to sign Gyokeres to provide a massive upgrade on the striking duo of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Sporting confirmed themselves as champions of Portugal this weekend with a 2-0 win over Vitória S.C. to finish one point clear of local rival Benfica with goals from Gyokeres and Pedro Goncalves.

It constitutes back-to-back titles for the club after Amorim helped Sporting win last year’s championship.

In the midst of the celebrations, Goncalves – Sporting’s 26-year-old attacking midfielder, himself linked with a move to United – dropped a telling remark over Gyokeres’ future in Lisbon.

Speaking from the open-top bus, Goncalves told fans: “I just want to tell you all something… They said we were never going to be champions without fans (during Covid), they said we were never going to be two-time champions without [Ruben] Amorim, they said we were never going to win the league without [Hugo] Viana.

“They say we won’t be three-time champions without Viktor [Gyokeres]. And now, what I want to say is that, we’ll see.”

This confirms that even the Sporting dressing room are expecting their star striker to depart this summer. It just remains to be seen whether United can successfully position themselves at the front of the growing queue for the lethal Swede.

  • Former Man United assistant manager Mitchell van der Gaag opens up on why Andre Onana has struggled this season – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Man United assistant manager Mitchell van der Gaag opens up on why Andre Onana has struggled this season – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Andre Onana’s start to life as a Manchester United player was far from smooth, with huge errors in the Champions League causing the Red Devils to crash out in the group stages last season.

The Cameroonian was expected to come into his own in his sophomore campaign, but things have been far from smooth with the shot-stopper continuing his trend of making high-profile mistakes both in Europe and in the Premier League.

Former United midfielder Nemanja Matic had termed him the worst keeper in the club’s history, with many pundits opining that Ruben Amorim must let him go in the summer.

Exit rumours have multiplied in recent weeks but the head coach has continued to back him while his teammates and former legends have also offered their support.

    Van der Gaag offers support

Now, former assistant manager Mitchell van der Gaag, who along with former boss Erik ten Hag brought the Cameroon international to the club, said the job of a goalkeeper at United was the hardest and Onana, like all other United players, has not performed to the best of his ability this term.

“It’s an emotional rollercoaster [being a goalkeeper for United],” he told BBC. “That’s what I think looking from the outside now but from last year’s experience as well.”

“Then you need results as well. Coaches, players need results. You need consistency from the team. I already knew Andre from Ajax and he’s a good goalkeeper. He showed that at Inter as well.”

But he backed the 29-year-old to come good. The Dutchman claimed that the former Ajax star had shown his mental fortitude to come back from low points earlier in his career as well and he is confident that shot-stopper can do the same now.

    Backed Onana to come good

“We cannot forget the impact Man Utd has on everyone. That criticism is there, excellence is expected and players have to deal with that. The other part is that there will always be comparisons.

“He is under pressure and scrutiny but he has overcome many challenges in his career before. At the start of last season, everyone was saying he was United’s best and most consistent player so it can change quickly.”

The Peoples Person has relayed that given Amorim’s need to strengthen up top, there might not be too much budget left over for goalkeeping reinforcements.

That means the United No 1 is safe for now but he must improve in order to prolong his United career.

  • Manchester United “leading the race” to sign Rodrygo this summer – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United “leading the race” to sign Rodrygo this summer – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United are reportedly “leading the race” to sign Rodrygo as the Real Madrid winger draws closer to a dramatic exit from the Bernabeu.

Rodrygo, 24, was a crucial part of the Madrid side which secured an imperious Liga and Champions League double last season.

The Brazilian international scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions during the campaign, but it was his unrelenting work-rate and selflessness which made the skilful winger stand out.

The signing of French superstar Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer has unsettled the balance of the Madrid attack this season, however.

Carlo Ancelotti has struggled to find a formula which fits Mbappe and Rodrygo into a functioning attack alongside Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior. Rodrygo has often been the victim of this imbalanced ‘quadro’ with less goals, assists and minutes on the pitch this season than last.

As a result, Madrid crashed out of the Champions League in the quarter-final stage against Arsenal and are currently second in La Liga, four points off leaders Barcelona.

Los Blancos’ bitter rivals also triumphed in the Copa del Rey final last weekend, beating Madrid 3-2, in what proved to be the final straw for Ancelotti’s time in the Spanish capital as it was confirmed the Italian coach would be leaving at the end of the season.

However, it now appears Rodrygo could be set to follow his manager through the exit door at the Bernabeu if a “big-money bid lands from the Premier League,” The Sun relays – with Old Trafford suggested as the most likely destination for the 24-year-old this summer.

“The 20-time Brazil international is ready to pack his bags and seek a new challenge, according to reports in the Spanish media.

“Real are believed to be looking for around £85million to let the Brazilian leave. Arsenal have been linked with a move, but it’s Manchester United who are reportedly leading the chase as they search for a statement signing for next season.”

The exorbitant transfer fee would prove difficult for the Red Devils to meet given the club’s financial difficulties, owing to the acute pressure of PSR.

But success in the Europa League this season – with a semi-final clash against Athletic Club this week – could offer both the prospect of Champions League football and a huge cash injection for United to use as negotiating gambits with Rodrygo’s representatives.

This remains a report The Peoples Person are sceptical of, given the unlikely idea Rodrygo would choose a side currently languished in 14th in the Premier League as his next destination, but if INEOS could pull off a sensational swoop it would arm Amorim with one of Europe’s elite attacking prospects to radically improving his misfiring forward line.

  • SSC Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna reveals why Scott McTominay has been a success this season – Man United News And Transfer News

SSC Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna reveals why Scott McTominay has been a success this season – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

SSC Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has explained why former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been such a success in Serie A this season.

The Scotland international left Old Trafford last summer and joined the Italian side for £25.7 million.

McTominay immediately hit the ground running in Italy and has not looked back once, helping his side up to first place in the Serie A table.

He has scored an incredible 11 league goals in 30 games this season. Only seven players have found the net more often in Italy and Romelu Lukaku is the one Napoli player to have scored more than him with 12 strikes.

The Scot underlined his importance to the team once again with a well taken brace against Torino at the weekend which put his side three points clear of Inter Milan entering the final month of the season.

Commenting on the transfer, Napoli’s sporting director claimed that everyone was already aware of the talent of a player like McTominay whilst he was at United.

TUTTOmercatoWEB quote Manna as saying, “there is too much work in daily life, that’s why it is difficult to watch so many footballers.”

Nonetheless, this was not necessary for this transfer as he claimed, “someone like McTominay does not need to be discovered, we knew he was an important footballer.”

He also hinted that the player was being used incorrectly at Old Trafford and that Napoli have spotted something that United could not see.

Commenting on what can explain McTominay’s rise to prominence he asserted, “he just had to be put at the centre of a specific project.”

Manna claimed that Napoli will continue to look to the Premier League as a source of recruitment in the future as he claimed it is “the best league in the world, with the best players in the world. The level is high, intensity, tactics, technique. There are many components that can have an impact in Italy.”

This is interesting, as Napoli have been heavily linked to United attacker Alejandro Garnacho who is likely to leave this summer.

McTominay will next be in action when his Napoli side travel to Patrick Dorgu’s former club Lecce on Saturday afternoon.
