Mbeumo is eager to make the switch to Old Trafford, but Brentford’s sporting director Phil Giles has acknowledged that the player could still remain at the Gtech Community Stadium if no agreement is reached this summer.
“There’s significant interest in Bryan, I think it’s been documented and publicised about his current preference, from what I understand, if needs be he’d be happy to stay at Brentford next year as well,” Giles said.
“It’s not a given that he’s going to depart this summer, he had a great season last season, if we get the right offer there’s potentially a deal to be done.”
Manchester United had set themselves a firm deadline to finalize the signing of Bryan Mbeumo before the start of pre-season training.
However, that self-imposed cutoff has now passed, with the squad returning to Carrington on Monday, and it remains uncertain whether the club will continue to pursue the Brentford forward.
Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, were also in the mix for Mbeumo but shifted their focus to West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus after learning the player preferred a move to Old Trafford.
Still, Spurs could re-enter the race, especially after having a bid for Kudus turned down by the Hammers.
Manchester United have already seen two offers—£55 million and £62.5 million—rejected by Brentford and have yet to return with a third bid.
While Spurs have completed the permanent signing of Mathys Tel and are close to sealing a £5 million deal for Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale, they’ve yet to make a marquee signing this summer.
With Mbeumo’s future still unresolved, he could become available again—and Frank would likely welcome the chance to reunite with the player he mentored for six years in West London.
