Man United squad divided over “overconfident” Ruben Amorim as concerns grow over his stubborn approach – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

The Manchester United players are reportedly split over whether or not Ruben Amorim is the right man for the job, as doubts surface over his rigid tactical approach and football philosophy.

This comes in the immediate aftermath of United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening.

Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal was all Tottenham needed to run away with the trophy and condemn United to what is now undoubtedly the most calamitous campaign in their modern history.

The Red Devils could finish as low as 17th heading into the final round of Premier League games this weekend. They’ve suffered 18 top-flight defeats and performances have left a lot to be desired.

Earlier today, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the United hierarchy are not planning on sacking Amorim despite how bad the season has been.

It was stated that the club’s focus is on backing the Portuguese coach and giving him the tools necessary to make the team a truly competitive outfit once again.

However, according to Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail, while a section of players have publicly come out to support Amorim, there are others who are not confident about his ability to turn things around at Old Trafford.

After the final whistle at San Mames, the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot all stressed that Amorim will come good at United.

Wheeler claims, “A number of other players feel the 40-year-old is too over-confident in his approach, and cannot understand why he puts so much faith in a playing system that is not suited to the squad he inherited in November.”

“A number of their [Shaw, Fernandes and Dalot] teammates have reservations over Amorim remaining in charge if he continues to insist on using a 3-4-3 formation and tactics that have seen United lose 16 of his 41 games in charge.”

In his post-match press conference, Amorim reiterated that he will change nothing about his system and the way he sets up his players.

If Wheeler’s claims are accurate, then the group of players who’ve lost faith in Amorim face a simple choice: fall in line or leave the club. That said, there’s currently no strong indication that Amorim has lost the dressing room, so this report should be taken with a pinch of salt until it’s corroborated by additional sources.

  • Manchester United Eye Bologna Star Dan Ndoye

Manchester United Eye Bologna Star Dan Ndoye

    [ad_1]

Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close watch on Bologna’s dynamic forward Dan Ndoye, with a summer swoop potentially on the cards.

According to TuttoSport, United have been tracking the Swiss international for months—and with a major reshuffle expected in their wide positions, Ndoye has emerged as a prime target. New boss Ruben Amorim is on the hunt for versatile, high-energy wingers, and the 24-year-old fits the bill perfectly.

From Basel to Bologna: Ndoye’s Rapid Rise

Ndoye first turned heads at FC Basel before sealing a €9 million move to Bologna in 2023. Although his debut campaign was a slow burner, he’s flourished under Vincenzo Italiano, delivering nine goals and six assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Able to play on either flank—and even as a wing-back—Ndoye’s speed, directness, and technical flair have made him one of Serie A’s most talked-about attackers.

United Face Competition, Bologna Hold Firm

While Juventus are also keen on snapping him up, United look ready to make a concrete move—especially with Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford all potentially on the chopping block. However, Bologna aren’t going to let him go without a fight. The Italian club have slapped a €40 million price tag on Ndoye, banking on his growing reputation.

Still, for Ndoye, a switch to Old Trafford could be the perfect leap to the Premier League spotlight.

“Everyone has to look at themselves”: Bruno Fernandes demands accountability after Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has demanded accountability, insisting that he and his teammates have to look in the mirror following the Europa League final heartbreak vs. Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham ended their 17-year wait for a trophy as Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal proved enough to beat United in the European final at San Mames.

The Red Devils looked lifeless and uninspired – a puzzling display given their repeated pre-match claims of wanting to win the competition for the fans.

Even Fernandes, who has been one of the very few positives this term, endured a difficult game and he was not as influential as he usually is.

After the final whistle, the dejected Portuguese playmaker spoke to Hayters and gave his verdict on the game as well as what has been a truly calamitous campaign.

Fernandes said, “First of all, we need to look at what we did this season, everything that went wrong in every in every point, in every department, in every moment of the season.”

“Everyone has to look at themselves. I need to be the first one to look at myself, understand what I can do more to help the club to to become the club we were in the past.”

“I want, as everyone in that dressing room, wants to bring the club back where they deserve. And obviously it is a very disappointing day, because we couldn’t get a trophy for this club to try to make something positive from from a disappointing season.”

“But obviously, we need to look at ourselves, understand whatever each one of us can do to help the team to become better.”

Fernandes explained that even winning the Europa League would not have saved United’s season.

“It doesn’t change anything. Our season was bad, and it won’t change by the fact that we lost today. Obviously, winning today will give a little bit of of something bright, of something positive to the season, but won’t change that our season was very negative.”

“We had a very good competition until here, but obviously that is in the past, and unfortunately we know we’re not the winners and we’re not not going to be remembered for that.”

“So I think it’s very disappointing, a very difficult day for us. It was a competition where we had a big ambitions, but unfortunately, it wasn’t our day.”

Head coach Ruben Amorim will lead his side into Sunday’s final Premier League clash against Aston Villa with major doubts looming over his ability to turn things around at the club, following what has been United’s worst season since they were relegated in 1973/74.

Manchester United confirm travelling squad for World Sevens Football tournament – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner has confirmed his travelling squad for the World Sevens Football tournament in Portugal.

Last month, United announced they would be taking part in the inaugural competition, as one of eight women’s teams from around the world vying to become the first W7F champions.

The tournament will be played in Estoril, Portugal, from 21-23 May.

Alongside United, other teams that will be taking part include Ajax, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Manchester City, Paris St-Germain, Roma and Rosengard.

It’s worth noting that the tournament will not follow the conventional rules of football.

Each team will play between three and five matches on grass pitches that are half the size of the usual 11-a-side pitch. Each game will be 30 minutes long, in two 15-minute halves.

There will be extra time for a tiebreak and a five-minute interval. The eight teams will be divided into two groups and will compete in a round-robin format over the first two days.

United are in group two, which also features Benfica, PSG and Roma. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semis, which will be followed by a third-place match in the final.

Skinner has named three goalkeepers in his squad – Safia Middleton-Patel, Kayla Rendell and Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

In defence, the United boss will be able to choose from a pool consisting of Gabby George, Maya Le Tissier, Aoife Mannion, Millie Turner and Jessica Simpson.

In the middle of the park, Skinner went with Simi Awujo, Grace Clinton, Dominique Janssen, Lisa Naalsund, Ella Toone and Emma Watson.

The attackers are Keira Barry, Celin Bizet, Leah Galton, Melvine Malard, Elisabeth Terland and Rachel Williams.

Each team will be allowed a match squad of up to 14 players, with unlimited rolling substitutions permitted throughout the games.

United’s first game is against Roma on Wednesday. Kick-off is at 18:00 BST.

“A positive end to a tough season”: Mason Mount reveals Man United must win the Europa League final this week – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has revealed victory in the Europa League final on Wednesday night can bring a “positive end to a tough season” for the Red Devils.

Mount, 26, has endured a miserable time since his £55 million switch to Old Trafford from Stamford Bridge in 2023.

A barrage of injuries have limited the Cobham graduate’s opportunities for United on the pitch – a situation which can impact even the most mentally strong footballer.

“It is not always easy,” Mount reveals. “I have had many days at Carrington sitting on the treatment bed, when I want to be training. I have been in the stand watching games when I wanted to be playing.

“But that was the circumstances. I gave everything to continue my rehab to try and get back. I have learned a lot from these moments. You really appreciate it more.”

And this faith was rewarded with Mount’s outstanding cameo off the bench in the semi-final clash against Athletic Club offering a glimpse of the talent United’s number seven retains.

With United trailing 1-0 at Old Trafford in the second leg, the game hung in a precarious place following the 3-0 win in Spain in the reverse fixture. If Athletic grabbed the next goal, the stadium would have been on tenterhooks and the Red Devils would almost certainly have imploded.

But Mount produced a brilliant turn-and-finish combination to draw his side level, allowing United to settle and add two more goals, before an outrageous long-range effort from the 26-year-old in added time put the game to bed at 4-1, 7-1 on aggregate.

Mount will be hoping he gets the starting nod from Amorim in Bilbao as United face off against Tottenham Hotspur in the final – a side they have lost to three times already this season.

The Portuguese coach is thought to be a huge fan of Mount with the midfielder’s best season in a Chelsea shirt coming in the exact same 3-4-2-1 system Amorim utilises.

Mount has experienced heart-breaking losses in finals before – namely the penalty shoot-out loss to Italy for England in EURO 2020 – and is keen to avoid a repeat in Spain.

“The losses are hard,” said Mount. “I have had quite a few at Wembley and they stick with you for a long time. But when you do win, you understand that feeling and always want it.

“I don’t know how many of the lads have too much experience of that but I can tell you I have had quite a few losses and I don’t want that feeling.”

Mount insists United’s recent results do not reflect the actual performances Amorim’s side have produced, mirroring a point the Portuguese coach made last week.

“I feel we’re close,” the 26-year-old said. “It’s small details here and there in games, especially in the Premier League.

“If the small details aren’t right you can get punished, which can be devastating at times. I think we’re close to correcting them and when you win trophies you get extra confidence and you build that togetherness as a group.

“But we know the situation we are in. As a group, we try to block out the noise but we know the league has not been good enough. We won’t forget about what we have done in the league but if we can win, it can be a positive end to a tough season.”

The final in Bilbao on Wednesday arguably United’s most important match since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement as so much more rests upon it than just adding another trophy to the club’s glittering cabinet.

The prospect of Champions League football next season, despite having finished 16th in the Premier League, is almost invaluable given the vast array of financial benefits entry into Europe’s elite competition brings.

Bilbao or bust is the mantra at Old Trafford this week. Or, as Mount more diplomatically puts it, “a positive end to a tough season.”

Teammate of Man United target Viktor Gyokeres drops huge hint on Swede’s future this summer – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres is a man in demand this summer and his teammate has offered a revealing insight into the Swede’s future in Lisbon.

The Sporting CP striker, who has scored 98 goals and provided 28 assists in two seasons for Leões, is being chased by Europe’s elite with a £55 million price tag reported to be sufficient to secure his signing.

Arsenal are believed to be at the front of the queue for Gyokeres with new sporting director Andre Berta a huge fan of the 26-year-old.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed the Gunners have submitted a “monster contract” to the Swedish international and will table an official bid to Sporting after next weekend’s Taça de Portugal final.

However, United are refusing to give up on the prospect of reuniting head coach Ruben Amorim with his former pupil as a new number nine is considered an urgent priority at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are believed to be preparing an offer to sign Gyokeres to provide a massive upgrade on the striking duo of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Sporting confirmed themselves as champions of Portugal this weekend with a 2-0 win over Vitória S.C. to finish one point clear of local rival Benfica with goals from Gyokeres and Pedro Goncalves.

It constitutes back-to-back titles for the club after Amorim helped Sporting win last year’s championship.

In the midst of the celebrations, Goncalves – Sporting’s 26-year-old attacking midfielder, himself linked with a move to United – dropped a telling remark over Gyokeres’ future in Lisbon.

Speaking from the open-top bus, Goncalves told fans: “I just want to tell you all something… They said we were never going to be champions without fans (during Covid), they said we were never going to be two-time champions without [Ruben] Amorim, they said we were never going to win the league without [Hugo] Viana.

“They say we won’t be three-time champions without Viktor [Gyokeres]. And now, what I want to say is that, we’ll see.”

This confirms that even the Sporting dressing room are expecting their star striker to depart this summer. It just remains to be seen whether United can successfully position themselves at the front of the growing queue for the lethal Swede.

Patrick Dorgu and either Mazraoui or Shaw are the wing backs.

Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro are the midfield duo.

Amad, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund are the front three.

  • Manchester United frontrunners to sign 25-year-old Ghanaian – Football Views

    [ad_1]

Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Bournemouth’s rising star Antoine Semenyo, as they prepare for a summer of major squad reshaping under Ruben Amorim.

    Red Devils Plot Attack Overhaul

With a full-scale attacking rebuild on the cards, United are expected to bring in at least three new forwards. The club is open to offloading Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, while loan trio Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony are all expected to depart. Even Alejandro Garnacho could be sold to raise funds for incoming talent.

Semenyo: A Premier League Proven Talent

According to GiveMeSport, United have emerged as front-runners for Semenyo, who impressed with 11 goals and 6 assists for Bournemouth this season. The 25-year-old Ghanaian is known for his versatility, capable of playing across the front line – on either wing or as a striker – making him a tactical asset for Amorim’s system.

Bournemouth value Semenyo highly and have him tied down until 2029, but a strong offer could tempt the Cherries to sell. With his Premier League experience and versatility, he fits the profile United are targeting this summer.

    Other Targets: Delap and Cunha

United are also targeting Liam Delap for around £30 million and are reportedly close to signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a deal worth £62.5 million. The third attacking addition is expected to come down to either Semenyo or Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

This summer promises to be a defining one at Old Trafford – and Semenyo could be at the heart of it.

  • Newcastle United Lead Race for Juventus Star Dusan Vlahovic

Newcastle United Lead Race for Juventus Star Dusan Vlahovic

    [ad_1]

Newcastle United are reportedly in pole position to land Serbian goal-machine Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus this summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via SportWitness, the Magpies have emerged as front-runners for the 25-year-old striker, who looks set to leave Turin as he enters the final year of his contract. With no renewal on the table, Juventus could be forced to cash in—making this a golden opportunity for Premier League suitors.

Vlahovic: A Proven Goalscorer with Premier League Appeal

Vlahovic rose to prominence with Fiorentina before securing a big-money move to Juventus in early 2022. Although he faced a bumpy start in Turin, the Serbian forward has since found his rhythm, contributing 14 goals and 5 assists in 39 appearances this season.

Known for his lethal finishing and physical presence, Vlahovic is seen as a perfect fit for English football. With Juventus open to a cut-price deal, Newcastle are keen to pounce.

Newcastle Eye Firepower as Howe Looks to Bolster Attack

Eddie Howe is determined to build on Newcastle’s recent progress, and strengthening the frontline is a key part of his summer plans. Vlahovic is viewed as an ideal partner—or potential replacement—for Alexander Isak, who continues to attract interest from elsewhere.

While Newcastle lead the chase, competition for Vlahovic’s signature will be fierce. But with Champions League ambitions and the financial muscle to back them, the Magpies might just pull off one of the summer’s standout signings.

Bournemouth will only allow Manchester United target Antoine Semenyo to leave for £50-60 million – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United will be hoping to add goals and creativity to their lineup in the summer, with INEOS having their eyes on multiple Premier League talents.

Matheus Cunha seems the closest to arriving, with the Brazilian eager to join despite the Red Devils’ current form and the potential lack of European football should things not fall into place in Bilbao.

The 20-time English league champions have also been linked with a move for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Bournemouth ace Antoine Semenyo.

And as relayed by The Peoples Person, the Ghanaian seems to be the preferred choice but with the 25-year-old having another four years left on his current deal, the Cherries will not be letting him leave on the cheap.

    Semenyo price revealed

Football Insider have claimed that Andoni Iraola’s side will be demanding at least £50-60 million to part ways with the former Bristol City ace, who signed a contract extension in 2024.

Rivals Newcastle and Arsenal are also admirers of the Ghana international and Bournemouth are hoping for a auction between all three of his suitors to try and earn even more if possible.

“Bournemouth are ready to hold out for bids of £50-60million for Man United target Antoine Semenyo, sources have told Football Insider.

“The Cherries star, 25, is towards the top of the target list at Old Trafford – while Newcastle and Arsenal are also monitoring his situation.

“It is believed Bournemouth are hoping for an auction to boost Semenyo’s price tag this summer.”

    Plenty of interest

It is easy to see why United are after Semenyo as he can play up front, out wide and even as a wingback, something Ruben Amorim will greatly appreciate.

He scored in both of Bournemouth’s league meetings against the three-time Champions League winners and the Portuguese tactician already knows first-hand how dangerous the London-born ace can be.

But with a striker, midfielder and even wingback position set to be reinforced, it will be interesting to see if INEOS can fund the arrivals of both Cunha and Semenyo in the same window.

There have been murmurs of a move to the Saudi Pro League for the African star and United will need to cough up Bournemouth’s demands to get their man as a discount is unlikely.
