  • Paul Merson says Nicolas Jackson will be threat

    [ad_1]

Sky Sports’ Paul Merson has claimed that there will be alot of transfer interested in Nicolas Jackson this transfer window, as CHELSEA seek to get the striker sold before the deadline night.

Chelsea have been very busy this transfer window, they have spent over £250 million on bringing in new players to improve many areas of the squad and now look like a side that can challenge for that Premier League title next season.

Joao Pedro and Liam Delap have both arrived this transfer window, which means that Enzo Maresca does not need to have Jackson in the side and there has been alot of speculation about where he could end up this transfer window.

The Telegraph say Jackson is keen to move to St James’ Park and join a Newcastle team who won the Carabao Cup last season and will be playing Champions League football this term.

And now Merson has opened up and claimed that Jackson would be a threat for any club that manages to sign him, he told Sky Sports: “I see a lot of Chelsea, if Jackson’s available to other clubs, I’d buy him all day long.

“He’s a genuine threat. He causes problems. He is going to miss chances; there’s no getting around that. Sometimes he’s a bit sloppy with his play too. However, he is a real handful for defenders.

“He makes runs in beyond the defence and he’s great if you’ve got someone like Cole Palmer in your team. He’s always willing to make runs and someone with an eye for a pass will always find him.

“There’ll be plenty of teams looking at him before the window closes, if he’s available. I’d be shocked if no-one snaps him up.

“There will be times he has his five out of 10 performances, and there will be plenty of them, but there are other games where he will deliver.

“I was a little shocked that CHELSEA were looking to sell because while Palmer made Jackson look good, Jackson made Palmer tick, creating a lot of space for him with his runs. But Chelsea have Liam Delap to do that now.”

  • Will Chelsea sack boss Enzo Maresca?

    [ad_1]

Jeff Stelling has shockingly declared that CHELSEA head coach Enzo Maresca is under ‘pressure’ heading into the new Premier League season, after the impressive first season he had at the club

Maresca has worked miracles since replacing Mauricio Pochettino last year, helping the Blues win the Conference League and Club World Cup over the past few months and building a side that is capable of winning that Premier League title.

But football pundit Stelling has fired a massive warning to Maresca if Chelsea suffer a poor start to the 2025-26 campaign, as in a talkSPORT YouTube video titled ‘Maresca and Amorim are in BIG DANGER of getting sacked if they have POOR starts, he said ‘You might not agree with this – and sorry Chelsea fans.

‘Club World Cup winners and spending a fortune, Enzo Maresca needs to deliver. He’s now under pressure because there’s expectation on him.

‘They have four London derbies in their first four games and then Manchester United away, Brighton at home, Liverpool at home and Nottingham Forest away.

‘It’s a tough, tough start and they’ve not had much of a break [over the summer].

‘If they start poorly, I think people will be saying, ‘We expect more than that’ – because people do expect more of Chelsea now.

‘As Club World Cup winners, going out there and doing brilliantly… Chelsea will be expected to produce in the Premier League and so will Maresca.

‘I’m not saying he’s going to be sacked after eight games and in actual fact they might have a terrific start.

‘They could win them all – but if they don’t – I’m just saying he’d be under pressure.’

    IcFootballnews Says…

The pressure comes with managing a massive club like CHELSEA, Maresca will be used to that and to be honest, the club will not make the mistake of letting him go early in the season if a bad start happens.

Maresca will always be under pressure at Chelsea even if he wins the Premier League and Champions League, the Blues board always expect to be winning things

  • Will Liverpool be signing Rodrygo this summer?

    [ad_1]

Chelsea, Arsenal, LIVERPOOL and Tottenham target Rodrygo Goes has already set his first condition to leave Real Madrid this summer: an annual salary of 12 million euros is wanted according to Fichajes

Rodrygo scored 13 goals and provided over 10 assists in over 50 appearances last season, but Tension has been building between the Brazilian and Real with the winger unhappy with his role in the team with his relationship with his teammates deteriorating significantly.

The former Santos starlet, who joined Real for €45million in 2018, is ‘angry’ with his diminished role and it has been claimed that he would be open to leaving the Spaniards over the next few months, with reports suggesting that he believes he has played his last game for Real.

According to recent reports, Madrid could be willing to part ways with the Brazilian forward if a substantial offer arrives. The ultimate decision, however, will rest with both Rodrygo and new head coach Xabi Alonso.

However, It was claimed Real will be demanding a fee of €100million (£87m) for the player, and now Rodrygo will be looking for an annual fee of around 12 million euros to make the move away from Madrid and join that next club.

    icfootballnews says…

Rodrygo has been world class for a few seasons, he is playing at Real and scoring the goals that big time players should be scoring, but his time at the club is probably coming to the end as the Spaniards look to keep on improving the side.

LIVERPOOL have done some great business already this transfer window, are looking at a few more deals, so adding Rodrygo to the side would be an immediate replacement for Luis Diaz.

His wages may be an issue though.

  • Will Arsenal sign Noni Maduake this summer?

    [ad_1]

Frank Sinclair is fearful that chelsea would be making a ‘crazy mistake’ if they were to sell Noni Madueke to ARSENAL this summer, amid all the speculation and rumours that talks have been held by the Gunners.

The 23-year-old recorded 16 goal contributions in 41 games in all competitions last season, but has been linked with a surprise £50million move to Arsenal.

Chelsea have been doing alot of transfer business over the past few weeks and after bringing in Joao Pedro from Brighton, the Blues are looking to free up some space in that attack, if you believe all the reports in the media.

But despite the reports, the Gunners haven’t spoken with the Blues and haven’t offered a contract to Madueke, and he reality is that Arsenal have not sent any proposal to Chelsea for Madueke as of today.

But amid all the speculation and rumours, Sinclair believes his former club would be foolish to part ways with Madueke at this point in his career: ‘I think that would be going against the grain of what Chelsea are trying to achieve,’ Sinclair told Metro via Kasinoseta.com.

‘They have been recruiting a young squad and letting them develop for four or five years and Madueke should be a big part of those plans, given how he has grown.

‘He’s got that recognition from England now as well, and that’s brought his confidence on even more.

‘Pedro Neto is obviously also on that right side, but given the competitions Chelsea are in next season, you need all these players if you are going to compete and bridge that gap at the top of the table.

‘I would be surprised if they let him go. I know Arsenal like to come in for the odd Chelsea player every now and again, but for me, that would just be crazy to let Madueke go, especially to a rival.’

  • Man United will “walk away” from Bryan Mbeumo deal if compromise over fee can’t be reached with Brentford – Man United News And Transfer News

Man United will “walk away” from Bryan Mbeumo deal if compromise over fee can’t be reached with Brentford – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United are reportedly willing to end discussions over Bryan Mbeumo should negotiations with Brentford stall over valuation differences.

Boosting United’s goal output is believed to be Ruben Amorim’s top priority after a toothless 2024/25 campaign that saw the club finish a lowly 15th in the Premier League and with a humiliating -10 goal difference.

After confirming the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, United’s attention is now on getting a deal for Mbeumo over the line, after he was identified as an ideal alternative to slot alongside Cunha in one of the two number 10 positions.

Mbeumo enjoyed a brilliant campaign with the Bees, notching a career-high 20 top-flight goals.

Earlier this summer, David Ornstein revealed that Mbeumo’s preferred transfer destination is United, despite interest from Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, this decision was made before Thomas Frank left Brentford for Tottenham to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Tottenham are pursuing Mbeumo, having been given encouragement that the Cameroonian is keen on following Frank to North London. It was subsequently claimed that the Europa League winners had tabled a bid worth £70million for Mbeumo.

United’s £55 million opening bid was swiftly rejected by Brentford, who are holding out for more.

Now, the Muppetiers, a relatively reliable source when it comes to United news, has shed more light on the situation and how things are developing.

According to Muppetiers, he remains confident that United will eventually get a deal for Mbeumo over the line, but it will be on the Red Devils’ terms and not Brentford’s.

Muppetiers state that Amorim’s side will not hesitate to walk away and focus on other targets if Brentford do not demonstrate a willingness to compromise.

“Remember, the way that we operate, the way that United operate under INEOS, this new management with these new people in place…they’re not just going to overpay, they’re just not.”

“They’re not going to sit there and go, ‘They want £70million, we’re going to do it no matter what.’ That’s not how it works. They [INEOS] have a valuation for their players and they go for that valuation. That’s the truth of it.”

“We saw it with [Jarrad] Branthwaite and others. They will walk if they don’t get the deals that they want. They will walk away if the valuation is too high and £70million is too high. They won’t pay that for him. That’s above the valuation for the player.”

On reports that Tottenham have stormed into the race for Mbeumo, Muppetiers says, “I will say this and as far as I can see, as far as I know from the conversations I’ve had, the strong feeling is that the whole thing is a bit of a red herring.”

“The whole thing is a bit of a game between Spurs and Brentford.”

“They’ve had all this communication, they’ve just taken their manager and it’s a bit of a game to push United [to table a higher bid].”

Muppetiers notes that Tottenham are indeed interested in Mbeumo but their admiration for the forward is not new, and they know the player wants United.

  • Matheus Cunha will bring “explosiveness” to Man United – analysis – Man United News And Transfer News

Matheus Cunha will bring “explosiveness” to Man United – analysis – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

    Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Modern football exists as much on spreadsheets on laptops as it does in stadiums such is the incredible proliferation of statistical analysis in recent years.

Clubs like Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion have achieved incredible success, on and off the pitch, by using data to gain significant advantages on clubs with more resources but less knowledge. We’re looking at you Manchester United.

But this shift towards statistics can often lead to individual data points being used to form narratives which are much more nuanced than on first glance.

And a recent chart, detailing how Matheus Cunha “spent more time walking” than any other outfield player in the Premier League, is a perfect example of this misrepresentation.

    Data Without Depth

Tweet: “Matheus Cunha is heading to Manchester United but Opta stats reveal he spent more time walking than any other Premier League player this season.”

Match of the Day revealed the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward spent 77.1% of his season “walking” – the highest in the league outside of goalkeepers, with four defenders making up the rest of the top five.

This chart blew up on social media given Cunha is set to join United this summer in a deal worth £62.5 million after an agreement was reached with the Brazilian international.

It was described as evidence the club were welcoming another lazy player with a lackadaisical attitude to Old Trafford for big money; an illustration the Red Devils were not heeding lessons from the past.

But the chart omits the fact that Cunha was one of only two players in the ‘bottom ten’ of the Premier League to reach the 20 mark for goals and assists, along with West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen.

The 26-year-old forward finished the season with 15 goals and six assists without scoring a single penalty. Only five players scored more non-penalty goals than Cunha – Mohammed Salah, Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland, Yoanne Wissa, and Chris Wood.

The chart ignores Cunha produced these numbers while playing for one of the worst teams in the division, a side who flirted with relegation for much of the campaign before Vitor Pereira’s arrival at Christmas.

But, being fair, neither Cunha’s attacking threat nor his place in a poor team (though this experience will prepare him well for a switch to Old Trafford) necessarily excuse a lazy attitude on the pitch. He can be an elite goal threat hindered by inferior teammates and still demonstrate a lethargy which could worry United fans.

The issue is that this chart offers zero insight into what Cunha does for the remaining 22.9% of his time on the pitch.

    “If you want explosiveness…”

STATSports, an industry leading data analysis group in football, reveals Cunha ranks highly in comparison to his Wolves’ teammates for ‘explosive’ statistics, dispelling the idea of laziness.

Amongst the senior squad at Molineux, Cunha ranks third for “most sprint distance” and “most sprints”, while clocking in at second for “percentage of his time spent sprinting (per 90).”

The idea that the Brazilian spends the second most amount of time sprinting for his side while simultaneously spending the most amount of time walking out of any outfield Premier League player shows the issue with analysis statistics in isolation.

The former paints the picture of a relentless player who simply does not stop running; the latter suggests a story of laziness and arrogance, a player who considers himself ‘above’ running off the ball such is his talent on it.

As with every black and white story, the truth will lie somewhere in the grey.

Cunha is an explosive player in attack who can contribute much more in defence. This does not indicate an inherent issue with work-rate, rather the reality of a brilliant attacker playing for a team teetering on relegation. A player who believes he has outgrown his club will often struggle to find the motivation to run for every ball.

A good example of this situation was Youri Tielemans at Leicester City who eventually moved to Aston Villa on a free transfer, despite excellent performances at the heart of the Foxes’ midfield. Yet there were concerns over the Belgian’s work-rate, most notably from Leicester fans themselves, and other clubs neglected to follow up their interest.

But it has proven a revelatory signing for Villa with Tielemans arguably Unai Emery’s most important player in the last two season. The 28-year-old midfielder was spurred on by arriving at a bigger club with better players and higher expectations; rather, he felt he was at home.

It should prove a similar experience for Cunha who is believed to see Old Trafford as a dream move with a firm motivation to help turn the clubs fortunes around.

Ruben Amorim has repeatedly referenced the need for hard yards since arriving in Manchester n November. Working hard is a pre-requisite to play under the Portuguese coach, as Marcus Rashford can attest to from Birmingham.

But Amorim has played a key role in identifying Cunha as a target and spoken with the forward over the role he will play for the Red Devils. If the former Sporting manager was in any worried by Cunha’s tendency to walk, United would have walked away from the deal long ago.

STATSports concludes their analysis of the Wolves Player of the Season by stating, “If you want explosiveness, Cunha gives it to you.” Amorim will be hoping the Brazilian international has an explosive effect on United’s misfiring attack next season.
