Man United defender Matthijs de Ligt reveals he has a “really good relationship” with Ruben Amorim – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has revealed he has a “really good relationship” with Ruben Amorim and agrees with the Portuguese coach’s assessment that no European football next season will benefit the team.

De Ligt, 25, joined the Red Devils last summer from Bayern Munich in a deal worth a potential £42 million. Moroccan fullback Noussair Mazraoui also swapped Bavaria for Manchester at the same time as Erik ten Hag targeted two of his former pupils at Ajax in a double raid.

But while both defenders remain at United, their Dutch coach has since departed, dismissed by INEOS after a 2-0 defeat against West Ham in the Premier League in October last year.

Amorim, Sporting CP’s manager, was headhunted by chief executive Omar Berrada to replace Ten Hag and arrived in November to take the helm at Old Trafford.

But the 40-year-old coach has endured a torrid time at the Theatre of Dreams which quickly morphed into a Playhouse of Nightmares for Amorim as he oversaw the completion of United’s worst season in the Premier League era.

United were 14th in the league table when Amorim took over Ten Hag but dropped one spot to a 15th-place finish. Early exits from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup were capped off by a dismal loss in the final of the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.

The defeat confirmed there will be no European football at Old Trafford next season – a devastating blow to the club’s revenue at a time when the financial situation is fraught.

However, there is a more optimistic counterview that less games means more time on the training pitch for Amorim to continue to mould his new squad, as former Red Devil Lee Sharpe told The Peoples Person in an exclusive interview.

Amorim has expressed this idea of no European football being an “advantage” in a recent interview.

And it’s mirrored by De Ligt, who believes it is something United can “exploit” next season while revealing he has a “really good relationship” with Amorim as the coach is “really open” with the 25-year-old defender.

“Every player wants to play as many games as possible,” De Ligt says in an interview with The Athletic.

“But I think, for the manager, there’s more time to train, more time also to have an intensive tactical session, because you can still train tactical if you play a lot of games but you cannot put the intensity in because you’re playing, every two days, a game.

“So, I think in that way, as the manager said, it could be an advantage and hopefully we can exploit that.”

In a glittering career playing for some of Europe’s behemoths, including Ajax, Juventus, and Bayern, De Ligt has only missed out on European football once before. “Well, I experienced it once. It was actually also after a Europa League final.”

The final in question? When Jose Mourinho’s United side defeated Ajax 2-0 in the 2016/17 season to lift the trophy for the first time in the club’s history. But the year after this absence, Ajax reached the Champions League semi-final under, ironically, Ten Hag, playing a blistering style of football which blew away Juventus and Real Madrid en route.

“The season after [the defeat to United], we reached the semi-final of the Champions League. So, let’s keep that. A good sign.

“On a serious note, I’ve been used to playing in the Champions League for my whole career, more or less. This season was the Europa League but it was also really nice. We reached the final and unfortunately, we couldn’t win it.”

“Next season will be different with less games,” De Ligt concludes. Fans will certainly be hoping so after a miserable campaign which brought the United faithful close to breaking point at times.

  • Report – Everton in touch with Liam Delap

Report – Everton in touch with Liam Delap

    [ad_1]

Everton have reportedly entered the race for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, holding discussions in an effort to sell their project to the 21-year-old. However, the Toffees face stiff competition from Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Chelsea, who are currently leading the chase.

Premier League Clubs Circle for Delap’s Signature

According to The Guardian, Everton have spoken with Delap to outline their vision, though manager David Moyes admitted they may be “behind the black ball” compared to rival suitors. Delap, who scored 12 goals in the Premier League for relegated Ipswich Town, is expected to make a summer move to remain in the top flight.

The young forward has a £30 million release clause in his contract, attracting interest from a host of clubs. Manchester United are reportedly considering offloading one of their current strikers to fund a move for Delap, while Chelsea are keen to bolster their frontline and add competition for Nicolas Jackson.

    Can Everton Convince Delap?

Despite Moyes’ admission that Everton trail in the race, they have had the chance to pitch their offer directly to Delap. Moyes said:

“We’ve had a chance to speak to him. He’s spoken to three or four clubs and he’s given us the opportunity to pitch our case.”

    Reinforcements Needed at Goodison Park

With doubts over Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future and Beto yet to fully convince, Everton are actively seeking to strengthen their No.9 options. Even if Calvert-Lewin signs a new deal, Delap could offer a fresh, dynamic presence up front—something the Toffees desperately need heading into the new season.

Manchester United slash Rasmus Hojlund’s asking price with Juventus preparing first offer – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Ruben Amorim’s decision to start Rasmus Hojlund up front for Manchester United’s Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur was one of the major decisions the head coach got wrong.

The Dane has been in miserable form all season, and the Portuguese tactician should have gone for a much bolder approach, even a false nine system, with Joshua Zirkzee not fit to start.

However, his selection call backfired as expected, and it is clear that the Denmark international should not be anywhere close to starting for a club of United’s stature.

INEOS want to sell him but are aware that his disastrous form means the club are unlikely to recoup anywhere close to
the initial €75 million they paid Atalanta for his services in 2023.

    Rasmus Hojlund price slashed

Initially, the co-owners had slapped a €60 million price tag on the United No 9’s head amid interest from Juventus but the Turin-based club had no intention of going that high.

Now, as per Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the Red Devils have decided to slash Hojlund’s asking price by €10 million with the report claiming United will “happily cash in between €50m and €55m” from the sale.

The Bianconeri need a striker and also have Victor Osimhen on their list of targets but the feeling is the ex-Atalanta player’s relatively his low wages would make him a safer target.

The 22-year-old earns £85,000 gross per week (via capology), while the Nigerian would command £300,000 gross per week minimum while Napoli are also hesitant to sell to a direct rival.

Juventus deal for Rasmus Hojlund dependant on CL qualification

The report also mentions that Champions League qualification would make it easy for Juventus to afford Rasmus Hojlund.

Juve are currently fourth, and can qualify by sealing a win against Venezia, who are fighting to stave off relegation, on Sunday.

Based on Hojlund’s form, it still seems more likely that United could be forced into loaning him out to try and restore his value, much like the Antony and Jadon Sancho operations.

Juventus have been linked with a loan approach as well while there is also interest from Turkey. It will be intriguing to see how INEOS go about clearing this mess in the summer.

  • Three Academy wonderkids spotted travelling with the senior stars for Brentford clash – Man United News And Transfer News

Three Academy wonderkids spotted travelling with the senior stars for Brentford clash – Man United News And Transfer News

    [ad_1]

Manchester United’s travelling squad to London for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Brentford includes Academy wonderkids Chido Obi, Tyler Fredricson, and Harry Amass.

As revealed by The Manchester Evening News, 21 members of the first-team squad were pictured at the railway station before their train to London.

Ruben Amorim had taken the likes of Sekou Kone, Jaydan Kamason, and Bendito Mantato to Bilbao to train with the senior stars in preparation for the clash against the Bees.

Given the Red Devils will play Athletic Club in their Europa League semi-final on Thursday, the head coach was expected to ring in the changes for the game at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Academy stars will get their chance

Noussair Mazraoui had already been ruled out while Diogo Dalot is sidelined until the Europa League final should United qualify. This is why Kamason’s chances of earning a first team debut were considered quite high.

Harry Amass would come in for Patrick Dorgu, who is also very tired as per the head coach.

With Casemiro in need of rest after his heroics in Bilbao, Kone was also expected to partner Manuel Ugarte in midfield. Chido Obi was likely to receive his first start given Rasmus Hojlund is the only fit striker at Amorim’s disposal.

But given each position in the table is worth an estimated £3 million, Amorim did point out that he is eager to end the season on a high.

“Then every position we have in the Premier League, you win more money. So that is important. Then it is fighting for your pride.

“Of course, we don’t have anything to fight for. We have the second leg, which is really important for us. We know that, but we need to be competitive in every game.”

    More could be travelling

Given Thomas Frank’s side are in contention to qualify for the Conference League, they are expected to go all out to secure a win at their den.

It must be remembered that this list includes only those who were photographed so more could have travelled with the team.

We will get to know officially on Sunday before the game. Hopefully, Amorim hands a few more wonderkids their chance to shine against the Bees.

Confirmed United squad members vs Brentford: Onana, Heaton, Bayindir, Maguire, De Ligt, Yoro, Lindelof, Fredricson, Shaw, Amass, Dorgu, Casemiro, Ugarte, Eriksen, Mainoo, Fernandes, Mount, Garnacho, Amad, Hojlund, Obi

  • Mathias Amougou happy with joining Chelsea

    [ad_1]

French midfielder Mathias Amougou has opened up and revealed just how happy he is to have signed with CHELSEA.

Amougou was a regular starter for Saint-Etienne in the first few months of the season under their previous head coach Olivier Dall’Oglio, but he has been used more as a substitute under new boss Eirik Horneland.

Chelsea have been keeping a very close eye on the development of the midfielder and decided to make the move to bring him to Stamford Bridge for a fee of around £12 million, he has also signed a massive eight-year deal.

And after making the move to Chelsea, Amougou has opened up and admitted that he is very happy with the move: ‘I’m very happy,’ Amougou said. ‘It’s an honour for me to sign for such a big club like Chelsea. They believe in young players and the process they have in place to develop us is fantastic.’

    Reporter Iomie Stanley says…

‘He may be very happy right now, he may be glad that such a massive club like Chelsea have come calling and offered him a move to the Premier League, he may be happy until the summer.

‘The squad that Chelsea have, the midfielders already at Stamford Bridge, players like Amougou coming in at this stage of their careers to try and make an impact, it will be very difficult for the lad.

‘I am not saying that he doesnt have the potential to be a big star, what i am saying is that he will probably be shipped out on loan for the next few seasons, forgotten about and then sold for a fee that is similar to what CHELSEA paid.

‘We have seen it in the past and we will see it in the future, he did not need to leave for Chelsea, i have said it before, this is a move that he will surely come to regret.’
