His exceptional form has caught the attention of elite clubs, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly keen on securing his services.
Gyokeres, 26, is under contract with Sporting until June 2026, but he could be available for a transfer fee ranging between £55 million and £70 million.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal’s newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta previously attempted to bring Gyokeres to Atletico Madrid and sees him as a more viable target compared to Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, whom the Magpies have insisted is not available for transfer.
The report also suggests that Sporting CP might accept an offer lower than Gyokeres’ release clause, which is estimated to be between £63.5 million and £72 million.
The striker’s final decision is expected to depend on whether Arsenal and Manchester United secure Champions League qualification, with Arsenal appearing likely to qualify, while United could earn their place by winning the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on May 21.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has already hinted at a major summer overhaul following Berta’s appointment in April, setting the stage for high-profile signings in the coming months.
“It’s going to be a big one [summer] and we are very excited about it,” said Arteta in a press conference.
“When you are going to go again, we want to increase the depth of the squad and the quality and the skills that we need to go to the next step.
“Every summer is big because it is an opportunity, and especially because of the number of players we have in the squad right now, that is necessary.
“But it’s a big summer for many things because first of all, we have to maintain the good foundations that we have and then obviously, how can we improve and evolve the team?”
BBC Sport also reports that Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is expected to join Arsenal, and they could also pursue a wide player with a move for Jamie Gittens mooted as a result of the Englishman’s impressive form in Germany.
